  • Very bad company to deal with AMADEAL.
    VERY shady tactics employed, I had issues with lathe becoming faulty after 2 hours of use.
    Company made me return item then refused refund claiming gears were stripped, but they were not as you can see in my videos showing the fault.
    It was a faulty control board which they claimed they have a stockpile of and offered me a replacement.
    When I refused because the control boards sounded very low quality, then the games started.
    Hugh the company boss even told me just to forget everything and claim through PayPal as we would both get paid.
    Dirty rotten fraudulent tactics they should be ashamed.
    AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS
    The cheap deal is bait to get you interested in their faulty shipment of goods.
    Plenty other companies out there to get what you need without having to experience this.

    Looks like a really nice Chinese lathe; Grease nipples, oiled bed, even a thread clock! Nice one!

    I bought one of these (in Red) about 6 months ago and to be fair it all worked fine. I then spent a few hours polishing and re adjusting the gib strips..(this makes a difference on its own). Next was the headstock bearing upgrade.. to Taper Roller bearings instead of the poor quality ball bearings, you obviously have to strip the lathe to do this but it can be stripped in about an hour and you have to fully strip the headstock to change the bearings. Once they were changed it was like a different machine. FYI the best way (in my opinion) to check Headstock, Tailstock alignment on these machines is as follows. If you remove the chuck from the spindle plate, get a 3MT dead centre... the spindle is machined to take a 3MT, use the 3MT dead centre in the spindle and the 2MT (that they supply) in the tailstock and bring the two together, you'll find out exactly how in alignment they are, chances are they'll be out.. not by much but then in machining terms half a millimetre is a preverbial mile. Good news is it's easily rectified.

      My lathe arrived perfect with zero tolerance issues, gibs and surfaces were perfect, alignment was perfect, everything moved smoothly.

    I have just bought one of these lathes,and believe me,it’s a lot better than this chap says. It WILL cut steel,it WILL cut bronze,it WILL cut aluminium etc.He says it’s only good for cutting plastic.There are a lot better reviews on this lathe than this one.

    • @oraclescave
      @oraclescave  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol I have videos of it cutting metal , it's more suited to delrin and other solid or dense plastics, not great with metal, a bit under powered.
      But can do it.
      At double the price of an old lathe that will cut anything anytime you need it to.
      Warning was more to show these can be faulty very often from new, and it wasnt worth the risk with that company as their returns behaviour is disgusting.
      Lathe can cut most stuff but feels like it is very under powered, sold as a WORKHORSE tgsts why I said it was more like a toy.

    That minilathe sounds horrible compared to mine, which didn't come from Amadeal. I found a UK supplier (all these lathes come from the same Chinese factory) that shipped me the same lathe, in a different colour for £420. Mine was clean and sounded much smoother out the crate.
    Every component on lathes needs too be stripped, cleaned and reassembled before any machining is done. I'd treat it as a kit, that has been assembled for transportation.
    Once sorted, these lathes can be very rewarding to use.

    • @oraclescave
      @oraclescave  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that John, I have had a few similar messages like that.
      At the time of purchase, I understood with it being a mass produced lathe from china, it would have all sorts of questionable oils and metal grinding pastes left behind.
      I was overall very happy with the quality, surface finish, and alignments.
      I also expected the laws of averages, that could result in me getting a machine with some sort of fault.
      Mine was a dodgy controller board which could have been replaced no problem.
      I did shit on this tool pretty hard because of my misfortune, but i expected these things to possibly go wrong.
      It was more a problem with that company (AMADEAL) that grew from a mole hill to a mountain.
      This could of happened with any one of the companies that sell these machines, as you rightly stated, these machines only come from a couple of factories in china then rebranded.
      So instead of being salty, I'm gonna keep my eye out for another one, maybe a faulty one and pull it apart and replace with full steel gears and advanced replacement parts.
      I dont have the space for a full size lathe, and I only really need a small sized lathe anyway.
      Plenty of upgrade motors and controllers can be put on these machines.
      So I have been actively looking for people selling very cheap non working ones, and should soon make an appearance again.
      Thanks for stopping by with a really good informative comment
      Much appreciated

      @oraclescave  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes very charming indeed, right up until I needed to return a faulty item, then the less charming side was introduced into the equation.
      Seems like it's only people that tried to return big items that experience the bad side, but then that's where a company earns its reputation, unfortunately they are just middlemen that dont even need to be there, direct from manufacturer saves big amounts of cash for doing their job.
      With zero extra risk
      This is about the only time nd tool I would advise to get straight from china.
      AMADEAL do nothing more than stock a unit.

    The "pinions" you mentioned are for thread cutting. So you can lock on the lead screw in the same position . Look on the Skirt you will see 16. Ie 16 teeth in that pinion. The other two have different number of teeth. See the chart on the lathe.

    The reading above was very informative, and thank's for that! I was seriously looking into getting a lathe from these people but got suspicious when their site went nowhere!! I tried to get some kind of sense out of the site, but it appears it is set up, to take money for orders, but nothing else!! As it happens I know the place they "are" or "were" trading from, and it's a crap part of outer London,,I know the little trading estate quite well, but I was under the impression that the "not quite right" traders had been sorted, and removed?? So,, won't be buying anything there then!

    • @oraclescave
      @oraclescave  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes Chris, smart move to source your goods from a reputable source.
      Since posting the video I have had a lot of messages and comments about people having the same issue with different items that are heavy goods, and the problems have all been the exact same, sending stuff back for returns, results in AMASTEAL, making up lies of machine being very very damaged and destroyed, so they can refuse to refund you all of your money.
      It's a scam, ebay and paypal know what they are upto and claims some sellers use this tactic, so they keep the sellers money and seller only gets partial small refund.
      It's illegal, very criminal, and not what any reputable business should be taking part in.
      They are only a middle man and adding more price on top for doing nothing at all.
      So yes there is many places to get these lathes from, China is probably the best place to get from, cheaper, no middle man, and I have NEVER been ripped off by a chinese seller, they always fo above and beyond to rectify any issue you may have.
      4 weeks to deliver from china to uk, isn't that long considering my lathe broke and AMADEAL gave me the runaround for weeks, charged more money, mocked me on my phone, and tried to steal my money with dishonesty.
      Next time I will definitely go china
      👍👍👍

    When any lathe quotes a between centre distance. It is stating exactly that. The chuck is removed and replaced with a "Faceplate and what is known as a "Dead Centre" mounted in the lathe "Main" spindle and a "Live Centre" mounted in the tailstock barrel. Commonly known as turning between centres, I could carry on with you use a "Lathe driving dog" to provide the drive etc, etc, but it is all basic engineering.

  • @doc1701
    @doc1701 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sorry to hear about the bullshit you had with the dealer and the problem (not the 'didn't make the gear click in' issue, the control board) because I've seen quite a few reviews online of similar models.
    The folks who seem to know a bit about what they're doing seem to indicate that, all-in-all, it's quite a remarkable little machine.
    For many of the reviewers/users the plastic gears weren't really a problem as long as you take 'small bites' and take things slow.
    Consensus seemed to be that the manual is really crap and that's a pity because I think a lot of folks would get better results if they could understand what they were doing.
    Anyhoo, thanks for taking the time to put the video up and ignore the trolls who are all vicious keyboard warriors, I'm sure..

      I actually liked the lathe, I was amazed what was crammed into the little set up.
      My problem was with the company I dealt with, yes I bought a lemon, but its gonna happen when you buy something mass produced.
      That lathe was beautiful, the surfaces were perfectly flat, I was blown away with my lathe.
      But niggling in my head, i knew something would go wrong, i just thought it would of lasted longer than 2 hours.
      I was already mad, then i dealt with that company who tried ripping me off.
      I hated this lathe by the end.
      But looking back, I think it's an amazing product, well made, electronics let it down.
      And an upgrade of electronics and motor would turn this into a real little work horse.
      I am actually keeping my eye out for a cheap non working one coming up, and I will get it.
      Just not prepared to pay that price for that quality again.
      And I didn't realise at the time of making the video that people who use these lathes defend them with their life lol
      All the trolls are lathe owners ha ha ha
      They all think they are rocket scientists and only they know how to operate the lathe.
      Most of them glue a dildo to the side of their lathe and turn it up to 2000rpm and have the party of a lifetime in the workshop.
      When I found that out, I decided not to own a lathe, not my kind of party 😁😁😁😁

  • @19mati67
    @19mati67 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Everybody measures the space between the centers from the chuck. That is not correct. You have to remove the chuck and install a center into the spindle and another center in the tailstock. Then measure between the centers. Chuck is not a center.

      Easier to put the shaft into the freezer and when you are about to fit the gear you must heat up the gear with blowtorch, then install on the freezing shaft, if it's a friction fit.
      Some gear sets have a keyway inbetween gear and shaft, so it's easy to slip the gear into place.

    All these cheap Chinese lathes come with basic information I think, hardly ideal for beginners/someone who's not a machinist but that's most likely who's going to buy one. It's best to check everything first, the belt tension/motor mounts before even switching the thing on for example, they are often 'thrown together' in the factory it would seem. It does take time, knowledge and some modifications but they can be turned into an half decent machine, not ideal I know but that's the situation I'm afraid.

      Before I put a video on youtube, I'll get to know the machine. I will make a video and introduce the others to the machine. It doesn't take years, but minutes, maybe one day. Whoever is stupid should rather wash the dishes, not buy a lathe and not make a fool of himself. And if someone doesn't understand machines and equipment, they shouldn't put similar videos on youtube. I want to see how this lathe works and not look at a fool who can't turn it on.

    well it's a lathe th-cam.com/users/postUgkxN9zrzkkhnjUF5PQbuA_B1gYdsfCu9k6z but it wasn't what i would have anticipated. Headstock, tailstock, carriage apron are manufactured from aluminum now not cast iron. The spindle diameter for the bearings is too small allowing for a few play in the spindle so I am using some blue Loctite to take out the play.

    • @oraclescave
      @oraclescave  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest I think the plastic nylon gears would be the strongest, the metal gears I have would have more chance of stripping or smashing than the nylon one's.
      But overall the lathe is very under powered, needs more torque but then the plastic gears would be at risk.
      Old metal lathes are built extra strong and a much better choice unless you are working with plastics then one of these little things is more than adequate.
      Very stressful purchase for it just to fail and be left with £500 worth of tooling you can't use.

    You where saying about it being 12 and not 14.
    I know nothing about these but the extra 2 inch would that be taking into account as the jaws.
    As the steel will have to sit a couple inches in the chuck.

    • @oraclescave
      @oraclescave  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that was exactly the case lol
      I didn't realise there was more than 2 inches of space inside the chuck I didn't account for, so yes definitely it's 7x14.

    Could someone please tell me if the lathe is meant to get hot. The leaver at the back also, should it be up or down 🤔

    • @oraclescave
      @oraclescave  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lever at the back should be your high and low gear selection.
      It helps with strength at low speed in low gear.
      In high gear it will spin faster but would be easier to get it jammed as in high gear it's not very strong.
      So low gear is fine for most and high gear for polishing and good surface finish.
      Also the motor is a brushed motor, this means that there is some mechanical pieces that rub against the motor for it to work, this causes friction/rubbing and it generates lots of heat, so yes it is normal for it to get hot, maybe aiming a fan at the motor might help.
      Just make sure any holes in the motor casing are not blocked up by stuff as thus would cause it to get extra hot.
      Remember to put some oil on your moving parts every now and then and you will be good.

    So it turned out to be shit. Its bought feom same firm that make loads and rebrand them for the likes of machine mart, axminster, draper etc. I was looking at it in machine mart today.
    Motors well under powered like my clark bench grinder. Cheap shit motor whereas it should be an induction motor.
    Dude. Get a chuck. Get a steel shaft and a ten ton press. Shaft to chuck and fit into two pillow bearings. Pulley back to motor. Use resistor switch for power setting. You have your chuck. Just bolt to bench through pillow bearings. Then lnly need tooling block and you have made a lathe.

    • @oraclescave
      @oraclescave  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Emco had a similar lathe years ago, but even that might have been a copy aswell, but lots of companies sell these lathes under different brands.
      Like Grizzly, grizzly takes care of there stuff before they sell it, and other vendors just stick a fake name to it, like Draper etc..
      And a few factories make all the lathes in china, with some differences, hence the title cloned also.

      It cost me £1000 including the tools you need to be able to use it.
      As it comes with no tooling.
      Other countries can get these much cheaper, I'm sure the machine was £550.
      Turned out to be junk, the machine broke after 2 hours of use, the company I went through were very bad, called AMADEAL, you should avoid these people, very dodgy, liars, tried to keep my money and the lathe.
      I have other videos showing what happened, if you are going to buy one of these, make sure it is NOT from AMADEAL.
      👍👍👍
      Also struggles with steel, best for plastic, it's just a glorified toy
      I would rather have a cheap older solid lathe with rust all over, you can buy them as cheap as £150 upto £650 in my country, over 50 years old
      But will last another 50 years.
      This lathe was not really worth the £1000 price tag to get running and break so fast, bad electronics, the electronics circuit board had very poor solder job so it broke within 2 hours.
