  • UPDATE AS OF 10/30/20: This whole entire Simplex 4100U system is no longer in service. The new system here is an EST 3 with EST SIGA-278s, EST smoke and heat detectors, and EST speaker strobes (mainly the ceiling mount versions and the wall mount ones are in the Gymnasium). Should’ve updated this description after the upgrade lol
    This is it! This is a full (well kinda...) fire alarm system tour of my High School. I know this wasn't the best tour, but you guys get to see what fire alarms and pull stations and smoke and heat detector devices are at my school :).
    Notes:
    -I'm pretty sure the fire alarm panel is a Simplex 4010 tied to a Simplex 4208 or some sort, but I never saw what panel they use.
    -There's another alarm that I missed and that's a Simplex 2901-9838 on a Simplex 4903-9102 light plate near the girls locker (not in it, but near it)
    -The bells I mentioned in the video are school bells
    -I actually wanted to do this since my first year of high school, but it wasn't that easy
    - The videos were not taken on the same day
    - I think I gotten a few alarms wrong. If I did, let me know in the comments below.

    A Simplex 4010 system tied into a 4208 panel? That's what the school I went to for kindergarten had prior to their old Simplex system failing a couple years ago. The majority of the alarms were Simplex 4051+4050-80 horn/lights, and they were also installed next to school bells flush-mounted behind gray grilles like at your school, and they had the 4255-1 heat sensors, but the original pulls were break-glass 4251-30s (they had some replacement Edwards/AIP 270-SPOs and Simplex break-glass 2099-9103s as well), and they also had newer duct detectors. I remember the alarms sounded on Slow March Time (when I had kindergarten there, I think they had a Simplex 4002 panel tied into the 4208.) I am betting that 4903-9102 light plate in the gym is replacing a 4050-80 that was damaged by ball; in my school's gym, one of the 4051 horns was on a Space Age AV32 light plate that replaced a 4050-80. Additionally, the music room had a Wheelock NS horn/strobe slapped onto the 4050-80 in there, replacing a 4051 horn that failed, and the boiler room had a Simplex 4903-9236 horn/strobe. So yeah, it was REALLY similar to what your school has. (Sorry for the long reply; my old school had a pretty fascinating alarm system as well.)

      Interesting system you had. When I was still in Elementary School, we had a tour of my Junior High School I used to go to, and this was before the system was replaced with Spectralerts A/Vs and BG-12s. They had Simplex 4051s + 4050-80 light plates and a couple of Edwards 892-2Bs and 4251-20s pull stations and a Wheelock Exceeder (replacing a broken down horn) and a few others I don't remember. But back to High School, I hope they don't replace the system and only just replace the broken alarms and light plates and pull stations and keep the function alarms

      Yeah. With my school, a couple years ago their old Simplex system was failing, so it had to be replaced. They went with a Fire-Lite system or some kind with SpectrAlert Advance horn/strobes. BORING! (They did keep the Simplex pulls and the heat sensors, if they haven't already started replacing the latter with smoke detectors yet.) Three of the buildings at my college also used to have Simplex 4051+4050-80 horn/lights as well, but also now have SpectrAlert Advances (though in-between, many 4050-80s were replaced with Space Age VA4 horn/strobes while they were using Faraday equipment, before eventually switching to Honeywell.)

    That’s a really cool devices on the school including the 4041s
    I like the Simplex Bells at the end
    Basically the Bell In the cafeteria is a Simplex but it has a missing sticker on it
    I do have a 2099-9756 tbar
    Great Video Tour

    (13:23) Ha, a 4251-30! That's what my first elementary school had! Well after I left, at least three of the pulls had the break-glass mechanisms removed and ended up looking like that (when I first saw one I initially thought it was a newer Simplex single-action pull that was replacing the old one, until I saw the old Simplex logo and the holes and peg above the lever.)

    my old high school has a Simplex 4100U fire alarm panel in the office, a Simplex 4606 I believe annunciator in the gymnasium lobby, Simplex Trualarm smoke detectors all around the building, Simplex 2099 series pull stations all around the building, a Wheelock AS in the courtyard, and Simplex Smartsync Truealert horn strobes all around the building inside. A Truealert in the cafeteria and one in the auditorium were attached to old Simplex 2903 light plates they didn't work. There were a couple of Truealerts at the pool area and a Simplex 2901-9806 attached to a 2903 light plate that no longer works as well. The school removed the light plate from the Truealert in the cafeteria due to renovations and removed both the Truealert with the light plate from the auditorium from the complete renovation of it over the summer into October. The auditorium now has 4 Simplex Truealert Speaker Strobes.

    The Norfolk Fitness and Wellness center had an old 1960's system with Simplex 4040's under a flush mount grill and that system is not functioning anymore. The current system is Wheelock EHS-DL1-WS24's and NS and 1 AS horn/strobe and NEWER Simplex Pulls that have the red led on it (4099-9006) and the panel is I believe a 4100U or 4100ES

    The 4903 horn strobes with the mechanical horns have a model number dependent on the candela output. 9219s have 15cd, 9216s have 30cd and 9217s have 110cd.

      9219s are the most common because they were sold for the longest time, so long that they planned on having a mechanical horn Truealert with the speaker design, but that fell through. At least Wheelock still sells the 31t 115 mechanical horns that can be placed on an RSSP to be converted to a horn strobe.

    It appears with the annunciator at 9:58, it's plastered onto an even older one, most likely one of those 60s/early 70s-style annunciators. The one that's on top of it appears to be from the late 70s or early 80s, so maybe at some point a Simplex 2001 panel replaced the original 4208 or whatever?

    • @CoolSimasGuy
      @CoolSimasGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      wileyk209zback Good point, perhaps the panel is just sitting there abandoned. I don't think it's in use anymore

    • @ZakWolf
      @ZakWolf 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's likely. Is there a newer annunciator somewhere else in the school, like one of those Simplex LCD ones?

    • @CoolSimasGuy
      @CoolSimasGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      wileyk209zback I don't think so. I haven't found anything different around the school.

    • @ZakWolf
      @ZakWolf 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That annunciator may still be active then! If it doesn't have an "AC Power" indicator, at least. It would only light up when in an alarm or trouble condition. I've seen old Simplex annunciators do that (at least the ones made before the 80s). They can run off modern Simplex panels just fine, too.

    I noticed behind some of those large gray grilles, they apparently have small school bells behind them (probably the old Simplex 4017 series with the "STR" logo on the gongs) and something else, but I can't tell what.

    • @CoolSimasGuy
      @CoolSimasGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are actually school bells inside them.

    • @ZakWolf
      @ZakWolf 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what I thought, but they appear to be 4" or 6" Simplex school bells (probably the older 4017-series with the "Simplex STR" logo on the gong; it looked like one of them at one point.) Odd they'd put a rather small bell in a large grille like that (at my old school, they had a medium-sized grille they mounted the 6" Simplex bells behind.)

    Was that hole there at the beginning of the school year and last year when you were a freshman? If so, there is a possibility they aren't doing anything with it or doing an upgrade. There was a gaping hole in my high school where an AV-32+2DCD used to be and now there is a U-MMT there.

    • @CoolSimasGuy
      @CoolSimasGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im pretty sure the hole has been there since last year, but im not 100% sure how long that hole has been there, and I dont think they will add another alarm on the hole. If they do, ill do another update.

    • @Goldenrod636
      @Goldenrod636 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actually THIS YEAR they installed new simplex ceiling mounted fire alarms I have no idea what the model numbers are but they look like the 9252’s and they sound like simplex truealerts. (No it’s NOT the simplex truealert) but they look like them and they just installed them in January of 2019 we used to have 4050’s but they got disconnected from the system (they are still on the wall but they don’t sound anymore)

    4208s cannot fo code3. So I'm guessing its a 4100, 4005, maybe even a 4100U or 4100ES.

    • @ZakWolf
      @ZakWolf 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's most likely something in the 4100 series, since he's shown the school has a bunch of addressable TrueAlarm smoke detectors.

    • @albertafirealarms2338

      @@ZakWolf And it is set up in a non-addressable manner.

    • @ZakWolf
      @ZakWolf 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@albertafirealarms2338 Yep; though I saw some addressable TrueAlarm detectors. So it's probably half-conventional and half-addressable. I've seen quite a few instances of that, particularly if part of a building is renovated and uses addressable devices while the rest of the building is conventional.

      I wouldn’t mind if it wasn’t EST. I can bet that there’s probably a few troubles on that new system. I wonder if the school staff missed the old system. I would be ticked if my school had 4050-80s and replaced it. They should’ve done a upgrade to a 4100ES (even the alarms get replaced) or gone Notifier. I bet the EST3 system won’t last as long as the previous system. I could see another replacement in 15 years.

      Goldenrod636 The hole is something I'm a concerned about. I'm pretty sure there used to be an old alarm. I guess they must've moved the alarms around. About the system, I really hope they don't replace it and just replace the malfunction alarms, especially the pull station on 19:10 and the 4050-80 light plates

    • @ZakWolf
      @ZakWolf 7 ปีที่แล้ว
