The difference between UK grime and American rap is so different, you can't say its the same because most people that make it share the same skin colour. And it would be disrespectful to call it 'black music' because they make so much more different types of music, and also disrespectful to white and asian artists who make that genre of music.

      @DBiggaFigga666 4 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      He understands Wiley that's why. One of the things Wiley said is that for the genre to move forward, not die and still be there for new artists coming through in needed life breathing back into it and it needs the prominent artists who the media view as grime to actually still make grime music.
      So drawing Stormzy out was a perfect way to do it. He didn't battle to win or lose.......he did it to create promo for his own album, Stormzy's album and the scene. The scene had more promo from a handful of diss tracks between them than at any other time recently.
      Wiley don't begrudge nobody getting that mainstream money.......he begrudges people who through the scene attain commercial success then do nothing for the scene that gave them opportunities. He has done the commercial thing getting paid whilst still putting out 10 times as much grime.........look after his pockets and the scene.
      That is the complicated mind of Wiley though......lol

      an example is Deno who went school and grew up in Brixton, we treated him normal and things like the Church we just think of it as “thats that church stormzy goes to” rather than trying to see him.

The ethnic person disputed and gave examples of what happened to him. I also gave examples of what I have witnessed and encountered. The examples suprised the non ethnic person who has never encountered such situations. So back to my point I wonder why that person has never encountered any situations like that.

    I also think Charlemagne is looking at him not like a son, but someone who could be his son and is looking out for him. We all know he can get under his host's skin quite easily... and he had surface level stuff to use to be annoying if he wanted to, and I'm really glad he didn't. I’m white british and you’re right, it’s also annoying for people like me who try my best to understand the different things black people experience as opposed to me in our society, and to try and adjust my behaviour so that we can be as equal in society as we all deserve.
      That subtle racism means there will always be that small divide that I don’t like, don’t agree with, don’t think needs to be there.
      Ps, I ought to clarify, I’m not trying to say poor me, I realise growing up white in England has afforded me many privileges that perhaps ethnic minorities wouldn’t enjoy.

    • @Astral-Cosmonaut
      @Astral-Cosmonaut 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      nick260682 the people that are actually racist think they’re not racist... “I’m not racist its just a joke “ kind of people.
      What annoys me the most is that people behave differently around people of colour. Not even direct racism as such but treating them like they are a different type of people if you know what I’m saying.
      People will say words they never ever normally use just because a black person is around. Like why?
      Not all of us say “fam” or some other slang like that. I purposely never use those words just so people stop associating it with being black.
      I won’t act as if racism in the uk is terrible because it’s not but shits annoyingly fuck

    • @nick260682
      @nick260682 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EnTrapeneur
      Yeah that’s interesting, I get what you mean, but a lot of people suffer from “wandering accent syndrome”.
      I get how that’s annoying, but a lot of people find themselves talking to people in the style of the person they’re talking to, whether they’re northern or welsh or black or anything really that isn’t how they speak themselves.
      I’m a bit like you - I try and speak fairly consistently with people, and I don’t use slang I wouldn’t normally use, but some people just fall into that with anyone that speaks differently from them, and it doesn’t necessarily come from a bad place.

      mike jordan cryface I said this to my American cousin 3-4 years ago, that UK is now directly (and indirectly) influencing USA black culture to some extent. For example, Stone Island. Black guys were wearing Stone Island in London 15-20 years ago. Now Americans are wearing it. Even when I used to go to the US years ago, black men used to wear their clothes super baggy. We wore more fitted clothes. Now Americans dress like us. Obviously you have your own style and we copy you too in some ways but we’ve always had our own shit.

    • @nick260682
      @nick260682 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Dru 1
      It’s funny, I remember Stone Island from the 90s and it was basically football (soccer for you Americans) hooligan wear.
      Mostly white, often racist British football fans, wearing Stone Island clothes, following their team round the country and having a fight in every town they went to and trying to basically smash up and ruin everywhere they went. They’ll be wearing Burberry next!
      But we’ve always exchanged cultures - the US blues and rock and roll from the 1950s was taken by British bands in the 60s that turned it into rock and psychedelia and metal, then Americans took metal and evolved it etc etc.
      But also grime comes from garage which is a mix of 80s US house music, and kinda dub and jungle and Jamaican influences.
      Music family trees are fucking interesting.
      Actually UK garage gave birth directly to both grime and dubstep. And dubstep has done a fair bait in the last 10/15 years. UKG for the fucking win.
      Fuck that was nearly as rambling as some of Stormzys answers!

    *I was born in Africa moved to London at age of 9 years old but I never got into grim music or garage? I always thought it was garbage. I always listen us rap I moved to at age of 30 year old California cause the music is garbage. My point is not everyone in London listen to grim or garage*

    One thing I love about Stormzy is how he bigs up so many different people. Like the people who passed him in number 1, his manager Toby, his right hand man, Maya Jama, Dave etc.
    He said he's a competitive, but you can be competitive to push yourself, while lifting up those around you. Wishing him more success. 🙌🏿
