She said herself that she is actually slower than most at learning choreography so I think she is just very dedicated and hardworking but we only see the tips of the iceberg so she makes it seem easy

That's what happens when a group has too much talent, some are bound to get overshadowed. This reminded me of hyelin from exid, she was underestimated as a vocalist then people are suddenly surprised when she was hitting solji's highnotes when solji went on a long hiatus. Eunha experienced something similar as well, but SouMu made sure to let people know that there is more than one vocalist in gfriend especially when yuju went on a brief hiatus herself plus the very iconic sunrise high note battle. Umji is underestimated both as a dancer and as a vocalist. As a vocalist, she is overshadowed by both eunha and yuju who are both very powerfull vocalists. Though I would say her skills as a vocalist is not that hidden, especially on their japanese songs, her voice fit their japanese concepts a lot and it showed especially on memoria and fallin light. Dancing wise, she is underestimated because she is in gfriend. On their debut umji's position is only a sub vocalist and a rapper, which made her look not as good but over the years, she made the most improvement in every category but their positions never really changed officially even now.

TBH (just sharing my thoughts) I found out about Gfriend like a year ago when I was binge-watching knowing bros(to not get lost in the new eps) and these cute chubby cheeks(Umji when I didn't know them) kept getting my attention. Her looks f'ing deceive me to think Umji was a girl-crush(i mean she feels like a chill badass) then I fell so hard for Gfriend for 2 weeks( in late 2020) i binge every vid about them on youtube and on K variety and start stanning Gfriend after watching all their dance Prac vids. (so far only recognize Umji, SinB, and Eunha mosts cuz exposure)
a few years back, i stan them for almost the same reason as you.. just watch another Variety show about them, you would not regret it.. 😉

I don't want to say this, if one day she really being serious in dance i don't surprise if she better than sinb because she got the sinb's lack as her specialities in dance, i mean she doesn't have the obstacles when come to dancing compare to sinb because sinb can't really cooperate with her body that much since she always dislocated her shoulder if she doing more than her limits, if sinb doesn't deal with dislocated shoulder i believe she will never be defeat by other members
