  • Here is Waste Management - San Gabriel's Danny Leanos hard at work on his route in San Dimas, California in his new (0:00) and old (7:02) Amrep front loader.
    So I have quite a history with Danny...unknowingly. Years ago in 2010, when I first toured Baldwin Park, Danny was in the yard doing a post-trip inspection, so he was the first commercial driver I ever heard about (unfortunately I didn't get to meet him in person that day). Months later, on August 3, 2010, I had just finished a bike ride at Bonelli Park in San Dimas and saw this truck coming down the street. I grabbed some footage of it since it was my first time filming commercial before. The driver was really cool but didn't get to talk to him that day either.
    In 2015, I met Kevin at Truck Adventures when he came up to the garbage truck I was showing and as we talked, he told me a driver named Danny picked up at his work in San Dimas in 210969. For the rest of the year, Kevin would tell me so much about Danny that only made me want to meet him more. I finally met Danny one day at the yard in January 2016. A couple months ago, I finally showed Kevin the video of the Autocar just to see if it was Danny, and by coincidence it was! On July 15, I finally had the opportunity to head out to San Dimas. I tracked down Danny and found him at Kevin's work ironically and got a couple stops around there afterwards. Very fun truck to film despite being a "Think Green, Think Clean" CNG unit. And man is Danny fast! I had a great time following him.
    Another really cool thing about Danny is that his brother is Leonard Leanos, the 2014 Driver of the Year! Check it out: / 1
    If you like the old footage, leave a comment. Still got a couple hours worth of old school video to post if anyone likes it.
    Huge thanks to Danny for all his hard work serving the City of San Dimas for the past 32 years!
    Thanks to Kevin for all his help with route info! This video's for you bro!

    OMG! That Peterbilt Amrep! So awesome to see a violent revving front loader! Rare to see a CNG truck being floored to the max! The old footage brought back the nostalgia from the time when the trucks boasted the huge WM logo before switching to the "Think Green, Think Clean" slogan.

    Great video! Really neat to see a WM driver that know how to make an otherwise boring truck awesome and fun to watch in action. I wonder what kind of mechanical repairs they have to deal with when the revving begins to take its toll on the engine. Otherwise, keep it revving. It was also fun to watch his unique style of dumping the containers, also evident in that old footage as well.

      Thanks! Danny is quite a driver, I really hope to catch him in an LNG truck one of these days. No major issues, just the regular maintenance and small fixes here and there so it looks like it's all good.

    Those garbage semis with the forks like that one there are cool lookin. Garbage, fire, yard, & concrete pumper semis are pretty much the only cabover semis I see around here in the USA nowadays. I remember I use to see cabover fifth wheel semis all the time back in the 1980s & down. Of course things have changed such as the law increased the length limit which made cabover fifth wheel semis no longer a necessity.

    Awesome video! Danny has such a neat operating style, and he rarely spills anything out of the dumpsters. Danny's truck might be the most entertaining commercial truck in Baldwin Parks fleet. There sure were a lot of full dumpsters that day, you picked a good date to go film. Those old clips are great, he got close to a lid flip with one of those dumpsters. Speaking of dumpsters, it is neat seeing the old dumpster logos with 3 phone numbers. I'm glad you were able to finally film Danny in his Peterbilt, it turned out great!

      Thank you! Danny is awesome! Oh I agree, despite being a CNG, it's one of the most entertaining trucks I've filmed. I'm sure you recognized about half the places where this was filmed! Thanks for all your help tracking down Danny, it was a great day!

    Wow Aaron, great video! Danny definitely is a fast operater! Really like how hard he revved, that definitely was the best part of the video, the revving. I never thought I'd see a new WM truck being revved like that haha! The revving made your typical CNG truck, much, much more fun to watch. Also love the old footage. The camera quality makes it look older than it really is haha that was very cool to see as well, nice looking trucks he has had and has now. Great video Aaron!

    Wow great video! Truck looked pretty sharp and sounded awesome! New Petes sure sound different when revved compared to older ones. That old footage was pretty cool too! Those older WX trucks are awesome! Now for a question: do you know what trucks ran for residential in Inglewood during 2000-2006? Was wondering since I lived close to inglewood back then.

    • @WMmaster626
      @WMmaster626  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Yeah it's interesting to see how much the Peterbilt engine's sound has changed since 2012. Glad you liked the older footage! I do know what Inglewood ran - lots of Pete/WhiteGMC/Volvo Octos, 310 Stagg ASLs, and some LE/AFEs. I can find some old pictures and email them to you if you want, PM your email on Flickr if you're interested.

    Excellent video sir! Wow talk about full on revving, this guy doesn't mess around! Heck the arms couldn't even keep up with him, they kept slowing down lol, he must have exceeded the RPM limit or something. One of the fastest operators to drive up to a dumpster and immediately put the e brake on and start revving it up. crazy how his operating style is similar to that of the older footage you have in here. Great photos also!!

    • @WMmaster626
      @WMmaster626  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Jaccob!! Haha I wish I could've seen him in a Diesel, I bet that would've been fun. Definitely one of the best drivers in the yard. After all, 32 years doing commercial gives him some great skills! Glad you enjoyed!

    • @Trashman242
      @Trashman242 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's actually a decel feature on Amrep FLs, just like on their ASL arm. seems to stand out most when a driver was revving the arms to go pretty quick just before, but it is intended to reduce wear and keep the dumpster from sliding off the forks when the arms meet the bumpers at the top of their cycle. I've never seen it make the arms slow down to the point of causing a spill, so I'm inclined to think its actually a good Amrep feature...and it no doubt can be adjusted. but I do crack up seeing FL guys try and fight it like this..
      anyway neat video Aaron, fun watching aggressive commercial drivers who waste no time

    • @WMmaster626
      @WMmaster626  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's an interesting feature, I definitely see the benefits to it as well. Curious if most of the drivers out here try to fight it or not, I'll have to see lol
      Thanks Scott! Danny's one of the best out there
