Graveyard diving Lake Jocassee

  • Scuba trip to the Carmel Cemetary in 130 ffw in lake Jocassee.
    Bottom time was ~16 min with 15 min of decompression.
    Vis was 30-40 ft and water temperature was in the low 50s.

    Was that a skeleton around the 8 minute mark? Looked like a small skull and rib cage

      Everyone was evacuated when they flooded the town

      This is a flooded graveyard the ground surrounding the body could have gotten eroded or something idk
      But then Again it does look plastic

    Cool, but creepy dive. That's a really nice light. Was this a Nitrox dive?

      I used air on the dive and then 50% as the Decompression gas.

      They were plentiful 35 years ago. However, there is plenty of trout in Jocassee. The trout are hitting around 100 to 120 feet deep right now

    In 1968, when the Percy Preist Dam was about to begin filling the pool, the Corps of Engineers exhumed and relocated all grave sites to higher ground, including relocating the headstones. Was this not done in this lake?

      Nope. I wish it was but from my understanding they basically forced everyone out and flooded it.

      I was wondering the same thing! I heard there are many graves there and I believe thats why some many people die on that lake!
