Sting vs. Muta in the 90's was great. As a teenager I was convinced they really hated each other but turns out Steve Borden and Mutoh-san are really good friends!

I don't know who he is, because I'm not old enough to have watched WCW, but i also know that not everything ever should be for me, clearly the older gen cared, hence the pop and people seem to be pleased in the comments.

Muta arrived to AEW back in 2019, but this was the first time that he appeared as a wrestler.

It’s always cool seeing two rivals come together and hug each other. It’s a surreal moment that will never be forgotten.
Sting is the biggest name that has made the most goosebump making moments. From his return in WCW, to his debut in AEW, to watching him and the Great Muta Together, he doesn’t need to manufacture emotion. You just gravitate towards him.

I love how Sting can do stuff in his matches that cater to his limitations, and yet still make complete logical sense as to why he is able to beat men bigger, stronger, and half his age, just through wily veteran saavy. He is such a genius in terms of ring psychology

Darby Allin is so lucky to being partner with The Great Muta and Sting..such a legend to seeing former rival reunion in AEW. Credits to Tony Khan for this storyline.

If you watch it in .5 speed and .25 speed you can clearly see when she landed she completely missed the barricade and the protective mats they have around the ring and hit her head right on the concrete floor 😬

Sting vs Muta 1989 is what got me into wrestling. Their match at Great American Bash 1989 was the first PPV match that got me hooked!
For any younger fans watching this and don't know much about the Great Muta, I'll put it simply. You know the cool Japanese wrestling moves that they talk about, with fun, technical names etc. Well that man invented or perfected about half of them

The absolute legend. One of my all time favorites. God i miss wrestling in the 80's it was so perfect. Just like the entire decade was.
Muta shocks the world with an awesome appearance. As for Julia Hart. That was a horrific fall. I did read however that she was okay. She went on social media and told the fans she was fine.
That stood out to me, too. I was more focused on how poorly the execution was.

Man oh man. Seeing Sting and the Great Muta together ...brings back some incredible memories of Japan and seeing Sting and Muta as rivals, but in reality, they are the best of friends and always have been. When I saw them in Japan it was very obvious after the matches that they were very close friends. Seeing Muta's De'mon mask in the entrance music had a tear come to my eyes as I had heard that Muta is retiring soon. An old friend who's Japanese was just in Japan for a month last month and one of the things she told me about was Muta announcing his retirement. What an incredible wrestler he is, and in his hey day no one could stop him. And to see him spraying his green mist...magical. Domoarigatogozaiimasu Muta San. I had to pause and comment about this, seeing the GREAT MUTA walking/stalking towards Sting brought goosebumps, my hair standing up on my neck, and made me feel very nostalgic! The history that these two men have is ICONIC! The battles, the wars, the most amazing matches that they've been a part of is easily some of the best feuds ever in pro wrestling history! Seeing this is truly amazing! The Great Muta is one of the best all-time wrestlers ever, EVER SEEN in professional wrestling! Once again AEW NAILED IT!

Unfortunately, Darby is in for a very short career. He is Jeff Hardy daredevil times 10. He does make it somewhat believable in more cases when it comes to beating opponents with his high risk, high reward actions. Sadly, no one's body can take that kind of abuse without it leading to some kind of physical impairment or an abuse of something to combat the daily pain. Hope he proves me wrong though

Muta and sting. Two of the greatest in the business. Two old bulls too hard headed to quit. This was one of the best moments to see for everyone that knows the history of these two immortals.
The Great Muta gave Sting some of the best matches in his career. Both these men are cemented as wrestling legends and now to see them in a ring together, it's just awesome. I sure hope they team up one last time for their US and Japanese audiences.

For a long time wrestling fan, seeing the green mist is like seeing the von erich claw or the people's elbow. It just elicits excitement.
Anybody that watched Muta and Sting wrestle each other during their time in NWA/WCW throughout the late 80s and early 90s probably got chills just seeing those two in the same ring again over 30 years later.

i hear she was okay. they helped her up, and she walked back on her own. she apparently jumped rather than fall back. if you watch closely right as she leans back her left leg slightly bends, and she pushes herself out to far causing that horrid bump.

I watched the replay as I'm in the middle of moving and trying to take care of my Grand-Uncle, 74 who still ended up in the hospital for a COVID infection, so my week has been shite and then this moment gave me chills and memories... A tear came out! Legendary moment

I STILL go back and watch all of their matches from time to time. NWA/WCW/NJPW... Singles matches...the times they teamed up...All of them classics.
I still remember the days when the Great Muta came to WCW and feuded with Sting. Then when he went back to NJPW, Sting came after him and continued their feud in Japan. The Starrcade In Tokyo Dome on March 21 1991 between The Great Muta and Sting was legendary!

While everyone knows who Muta is, the vast majority of AEW’s audience is below 40, so the likelihood of them watching or having vivid memories of muta vs sting is small. Plus Muta’s run in WCW was only a year long (not including his returns as they were unmemorable in comparison, being odd one offs or in that shit tag team run where they didn’t know what to do with him), which also happened to be the year after WCW was branded as WCW and still finding its feet, so it’s possible even the right age bracket didn’t see Muta and sting given it happened in such a short space of time on what was the second wrestling promotion.
Everyone knows Muta, but ops comment 90% of fans never witnessed that rivalry, while hyperbole, is probably a lot closer to the truth than we all think
Not for me. The Sting/Flair Funk/Muta feud was epic in its day. From the Funk announcer ambush, to the 3 ring circus involving Buzz Sawyer as well, to Havoc being the endgame and Sting being kicked from the Horsemen afterwards. Longterm storytelling at its best.

Great Muta debuted in the old World Class in mid 80s. Then went on to NWA and had classic matches with Sting, Luger and Flair.
I really wish Great Muta could have had one last match in the United States, maybe in AEW, NWA, or Impact. Looks like the last time he wrestled in the US was 2019. Still really impressive that he stayed in great shape and kept wrestling full time until age 60. One of the favorite wrestlers of all time.
