Reposting this reply to a comment so I can pin it. A very thorough description of the run, what's skipped, what can't be skipped, and what may be skipped in the future: Well, partially true. If we could have one load zone load the wrong area then, theoretically, we could just warp from the first cutscene to Dark Lumina Finale and the run would be 2 minutes long. Assuming that's not possible, this is what we're left with: We must play through chapter 1 normally. It's completely linear and load zones exist only to bring you forward. In chapter 2 we need to get the L Brace because we need Earth Scroll because it is necessary for all momentum conservation tricks in the game (unless we found infinite vertical displacement otherwise). These tricks are the only way we know how to skip Skullpion and the Tim saving sequence (tricks involving the church). Next, we have to do all 4 dungeons to load the room with the L Belt in it which is mandatory for a lot of movement and other skips (unless we found infinite horizontal displacement otherwise). Then, we clip into the Relic Keeper dungeon, bypassing having to redo the church sequence giving us the statue of an angel. This lets us fight Relic Keeper, which is done in order to unlock the water crest (unless we found an alternative method for unlocking crests), so we can do the Kojiro fight which unlocks the Frost Palace. (We also skip into the Kojiro fight, skipping town on fire, and gondola fixing quest.) Next, we have to get all 3 eyes in the Frost Palace to unlock the final door (unless we could somehow clip in, yes the loading zone exists but we have no idea how to touch it). We then fight Frost Dragon. However, if we could find that alternative way to unlock crests, we could skip both Frost Palace and Frost Dragon entirely. When we return to town, we activate the water crest in the well that we skipped earlier by skipping into Kojiro. This warps us back to chapter 4 when Steamwood II was not active. This allows us to bypass the steam on the way to the fire crest which is the only way to get to the wind scroll. Lastly, we have to go through most of the Queen Ant dungeon normally as its the only way to activate the wind crest which brings us to Sodafountain. The only theorized skip here is a way to get into the minecart minigame without turning on the power, saving a few minutes. So, that's pretty much it. If any of those skips were found, it would change a lot as others have in the past. I will say though that, this is not that long of a game. More than a third of the game has been removed through glitches and skips which is a very impressive amount of time for such a small community of speedrunners and glitch hunters.
One touch I really love about this game and really shows how much attention to detail and love was poured into it by the developers is part of the legend of Musashi is before his fated duel with Kojiro at the beach, Kojiro became so enraged by Musashi's actions that Kojiro famously threw away his scabbard (aka sword sheath) in a fit of anger right before their duel. During the cutscene at 47:20, you can see this Kojiro do the very same thing.
I just played through this game this year, and I'm super pleased to see all these great runs by you. I'm definitely gonna study up and start running it soon! The sequence breaks are insane
Hey me too. It's neat how the melody was recontextualized for the sky scroll at 1:28:15. Kinda wish they did something different like that for all five.
... I'm not gonna lie, I'm seriously considering using that church roof trick in an otherwise normal run just to enter in the morning and skip the freaking vambee soldier sequence.
Go for it! If you want an easier method for once you've already gotten the L belt, you can infinite jump off a tree into the load zone. I have some tutorials in a playlist on my channel th-cam.com/video/dbh8WG0JFxQ/w-d-xo.html
The Relic Keeper boss is so sad. He's got such a cool design, he has the best boss music in the game, and he's just minding his own business in that room underground until you disturb him. What's more is you're moreso putting him out of his misery. He is struggling to hold up the ceiling, so if Musashi just left the room at any point in the fight, poor 'ol Relic Keeper still is pretty screwed either way 😥
You know, that Relic Keeper just wanted to give you a high five, and you stabbed him in the eye a bunch of times. No wonder he was crying. Seriously though, awesome run. Sub 2 is nuts.
I really wish there was a randomizer for this. I feel like it could be pretty fun. It has plenty of treasure and you could also do most of the bincho fields.

LoL, I am shocked, just found out there are some hacks and tricks here and there in this game. Nice gameplay especially in that sky castle, a long run stage with many enemy and boss and little health supply. Feeling nostalgic after seeing the ending credit scene. Good story and music design. I hope this amazing game get a remake.
For those who do not know. The reason this game takes so long is because of the Soda Fountain and a few other checks. Because there are so many places that you need to use the different scrolls in it's not possible to skip them. If there was a way to get past these checks and a way to warp to the soda fountain early we would be able to shave at least an hour and a half off of this.

Amazing run, congratulations! can someone explain what's happening starting 1:10:40? are you skipping the gondola gizmo quest just by sleeping a few times in the hotel? is it time based starting when the ant first attacks? if not, and the gizmo quest was already skipped by then, why spend so many nights in the hotel? EDIT: ahh, I guess it just because it's your last chance for sleeping in the hotel and getting the timing right for skyday? so the inn stays have nothing to do with the ant or the gondola. Beautiful timing, you get to the wind crest just as it starts raining on skyday!! It amazes me how perfectly this is planned.
The gondola gizmo (and the village on fire sequence, fixing the well, etc) take place at the start of chapter 4. The trick at 45:50 is the one that skips those. And as you figured out, yeah, I'm sleeping to advance the clock in preparation for sky day. I could do all that sleeping after Queen Ant but the inn is much more out of the way at that point.

The bit at 19:15 - basically just by touching that load zone at the top of the church, the game puts you near the end of chapter 3. Once you're out of the courtyard you can continue playing as normal without having to do that boss fight or saving Tim
@roastefied3309 after double jumping, you can pause and switch scrolls and the game will let you do an additional double jump. Just chaining those to skip needing the L Shoes for this room. I have a tutorial here: th-cam.com/video/dbh8WG0JFxQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=fcImUv6aRx2Kn7mE
I skip meeting the mayor (as well as that entire quest of freeing Jon and taking the raft down Twinpeak) by doing a skip directly to the L Brace (which is kinda the entire point of that section of the game.) The skip starts by getting Hop around the 10 minute mark and at 11:03, I cancel hop on the frame I land which stores a very high vertical momentum value. The frame after I walk off the edge of the river, the game reads this value and instead of making me fall, it launches me up higher than a normal jump and I can skip directly to the chest. If you want to learn the trick, I have a tutorial here: th-cam.com/video/niNmkWD8vaE/w-d-xo.html or if you want to watch a run that doesn't do any skips, I've also done one of those here: th-cam.com/video/0CVT38v6IiU/w-d-xo.html

By cancelling hop the frame we land, we store a very high vertical momentum value (higher than what we would have from a jump) so the next time we walk off a ledge and the game reads that value, it sends up very high and we can make an otherwise impossible jump.
Yeah, so it is an abuse of “polygonal jumps” discovered by holyangelnyako a few years ago. It seems that when Musashi gets to the top of a climbable wall, he’s given some extra vertical momentum as the animation has him jump to the top of the wall. This trick abuses the vertical momentum gain by tricking the game into thinking we are at the top of the wall when we are still in the middle of it. We can then use the extra vertical momentum to clip into the block which then spits us up on top of it and past the obstacle.
If you have the water scroll active, the bubble will take one hit from any type of fire (Relic Keeper, torches, lava, etc). I just keep spawning the bubble. Doesn't save or lose any time, you just have to wait for that attack to end
