I never understood the hate for Lady in the Water. I guess because it wasn't totally horror focused? I always liked it though. And people need to leave the slips alone!
I wasn’t a huge fan of Lady in the Water but it was excessively criticized as a terrible movie, I’d say. It might be the most visually beautiful of any Shyamalan film. His films haven’t been as aesthetically interesting since that one.
I do the same thing with most slip cover stickers. I fix bent and creased slip covers with a flathead screwdriver by pressing them against a hard surface.
I'm the same way about the slipcovers. I've had to deal with people putting the case back in the slipcover and hitting the barcode cutout and messing up the slipcover and plastic on the case among other things. Sometimes I will pass over a Blu-ray if it doesn't have a slipcover or if it's damaged. A lot of older live action disney movies just have the fullscreen version available and I feel they could upgrade those instead of re-releasing the same animated ones every couple of years. Thanks for another great video as always. 👍
Lady in the Water was shot on 35mm film, but was released in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. Matted widescreen means that some of the filmed image is covered from top and bottom. You're not missing anything, it's in same ratio as in theaters. Only 1.78:1 aspect ratio has no black bars as it's full 16:9 ratio.
I feel your pain, especially when its a pristine find of a movie YOU like, regardless what the cashier thinks of it. Should be handled the same way as a Beatles collectable record for $200 would be handled. And who knows - 10 years or so down the road, that maybe a very valuable movie to have, and that little rip might take off $5 - $20 what it could be sold for on Ebay or wherever. Like you say, the way records go for these days, even when they're obscure, old and dirty - and collectors still treat them with plastic gloves and all. Us DVD fans can be like that too! :)
@@filozsofia I just watched this for the first time, I felt bad about laughing at your "hey you ruined my slipcover" I'm pretty sure you weren't that rude. I used to work in a store that mostly sold LP's & CD's, you wouldn't believe how rude some customers can be. Although one customer always annoyed me when he always asked for new cases for the cd's he was buying.
If they’re taped up, Goodwill is suppose to let you uncut them so you can inspect the disc before paying at check out. I always throw away the cases of the movies I buy at Goodwill and other used movies, ‘eBay’. If it’s a rare case I’ll run it through the dishwasher. I store brand new cases purchased from Amazon, Blu-Rays, DVD’s, single disc, double, triple. I’m now starting to store 4K cases now.
I like to keep my collection in pristine condition as well. I sanitize my second hand cases or if they are in bad shape I swap them out too. That is why I like to pick up dollar tree Blu-ray’s so I can use the cases if the movie isn’t good! 😉
@@filozsofia I'm the same way about Dollar Tree, if the movies bad I'll throw it away and keep the case. When cleaning a DVD disc I use hot water and non-bleach dish soap. Blu-Rays and 4k's distilled water only. Then a compressed air duster and a microfiber cleaning cloth to dry. I can take a trashed movie and make it look brand new. I've currently got a box with around 100 DVD's I need to clean.
Good choices. Carrie remake was pretty good I thought..esp Julianne Moore playing the mother..a role slightly over acted in the original... But 76 version is still flawless.
Love that box for La La Land 💙💙 such a perfect example why we love physical copies 🥰 we just don't wanna have "the movie", we love "that extra something". It's art! I have the same movie also on Bluray but not the same physical box. I just got the most basic version. I never knew the copy that you showed exist 😱 I got some of movie movies as "Steelbook" and I also got one of the Hobbit movies as extended 3D with a "physical 3D box" and I wish I had the other two like that from the same trilogy. Also got Star Wars Ep 7 as same kind of edition. And I got Scream 4 Bluray with that scary mask! Yes, a real "Scream face mask". That box is the largest box for one single movie that I got. It hurts to see all the stores that sold movies and now they sell almost no movies. Hope all households will come back to physical copies! This is why I love video like this one. Hope it will inspire people to collect physical copies!
I received a blu ray from Amazon it was a 20 dollar disc, this was not from a third party it was prime, the shrink wrap was on put did not look right, I opened the disc and discovered finger prints and scratches I called Amazon and they sent me another one and it was fine, obviously Amazon is reselling returned items, also you can purchase blu ray, dvd cases on Amazon at reasonable prices which you can use if you buy something and the case is damaged,
I do agree about the Slipcase they shouldn't just tear it as if it's nothing, It's part of what you are paying for. Honey, I shrunk the Kids is great, that movie gave me a great empathy for ants! P. S, I am in the insiders club!
I understand the frustration of having the slipcover damaged. Why are movies released in full screen only on dvd sometimes? I have Honey, I Shrunk the Kids too but I wish Disney would release their blueray version to the general public and not just insiders because to grab one is pricey. I saw Lady In The Water in theaters and enjoyed it so I picked it up on dvd too. I think it's underrated. Have a great day!
It’s so frustrating when cashiers don’t care about the slip covers... I bought a movie and they put a pickup receipt sticker on my cover.. then pulled it off tearing the whole cover and had the nerve to ask me why when I said I no longer wanted the movie...
The aspect ratio of honey I shrunk the kids Is the correct aspect ratio on Blu-ray but the only way you can get it is just on the Disney movie club along with the second movie honey I blew up the kid . It is worth getting Disney movie club and if you get all the movies you want and finish your fulfillment you cancel it started up again get more movies finisher for filament start up again and that’s the way the build your Disney collection fast
Even though I have most of the Disney movies I want, I’ve been thinking of the DMC, but ultimately I don’t think it would worth it for me right now. Maybe another time.
Nice haul. I find that there is a strange culture of people who have a negativity towards hard copy movie collectors. Specific employees tend to give off bad, "There's that guy again, thumbing through EVERRRY dvd on the shelf!" type of energy. Like they want to shame you...or something and yet they want your money! 😆
Not seen Lady in the Water, but interested to watch it at some point M knight Shamylan has made some great films! Moon is great I have that on steelbook and 4k. The guy should not be damaging the product you are buying especially in a collecters shop. Some people don't have any respect for things, I think you have the right to complain about it, it's your hard earned money that is paying for it, Great pick ups 👍 😎
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids original release in theaters 1:85:1, I own the Disney Money Club Blu-ray of it, it’s Widescreen 1:85:1. Ripped slipcover, you had the right to get mad. 😠 I’m sure a pair of scissors was close by, they were lazy.
Looks like you need some more shelf space. In regards to slip covers I am not a fan of them. I actually take them off and store them in a box because they take up shelf space and I like the look of how my movies are displayed on my shelves without the slip cover on. That said anyone at a collectible store should know that slipcovers are important to many collectors and should treat them with care. I don't think you are being unreasonable at all.
I do need more space!! 😅 I understand liking the look of the unity as well! I just enjoy the individual artworks and special looks of the slipcovers. I’m glad you’re keeping them though! If you ever thinking of throwing them out, let me know! 😁 I’ll gladly take them! 😉
I think La La land is horrible. The singing and dancing is not that good. And without that it is just a below average romantic comedy. Moonlite won the oscar and it was just as bad or worse.
I never understood the hate for Lady in the Water. I guess because it wasn't totally horror focused? I always liked it though. And people need to leave the slips alone!
The Brave One is one of my favourite Jodie Foster movies. Need to rewatch it when I find the time.

Slipcover restoration is a new art form! 😉
I don't blame you for getting on him for ripping it. Great pick ups. I also am happy to own the DVD copy of Honey I Shrunk The Kids.

You me and Dupree is a funny film. I enjoy it for what it was , it also has a small role by Seth Rogen .

People damaging DVD and Blu-Ray are so annoying.
1.33:1 is standard full screen. Also known as 4:3, it's the same shape as all the old CRT TVs.
Thanks 😊

You are right. I'm a big fan of the DePalma 1976 original but, the new version stands on its own merit. Great remake! 👍🏻

P.S. It feels cool to be an insider on your channel!!
😉
That sucks when a cashier damages anything. I always cut the tape myself and check the discs.

They should be more careful. That wasn't your fault. Lol will be waiting

hello filozsofia .. what tv do you have guys make video it will be very interesting
I am planning on making a video about it.
What is movie exchange exactly?
Why not just cut the tape?! I usually use my key if I’m in a goodwill that tapes them and I guy them myself haha

The Carrie Remake is not a good Movie. That's my Opinion. The Original is the best.
I’ll have to rewatch it probably this Halloween season.
