A subscriber left a comment asking about the automatic truckers hitch. She wanted to use it to put up a clothesline. However, it was a little advanced yet for her. So, I decided to make a simpler version of a clothesline using spoons to pull in tension. The turn-lock works really well for something like this.

Nice job. This is the simplist possible way to do that. Well done.

We see hundreds, maybe thousands of guys doing extraordinary things on youtube all the time, but this particular skill make me wonder "I wish I were that kind of man", Then I watch tons of tutorials about knots, and when the time comes to show my skill, nothing happens and I just do a square knot. Sad but true

i assume you don't have a space and reason to really use it.
i often do constrictor and taut line. "Zip tie" knots(mostly just tension loop), alpine butterfly or prusik or simple slipknot for hanging things, rope ladders..

I can relate. I love working with knots, but I don't use them practically as much as I'd like, especially the more atypical methods he uses. I do use a tautline hitch all the time and often create slipped knots for ease of removal. When I do use a truckers hitch, I always use his tip - do a second pass through to make it self locking. I do love all his great "answer the question" videos!

Nice. I would personally just use a truckers hitch.

Another fun video. For a simpler way to make a clothes line I would suggest the hitches that Ray Mears uses for his tarp ridge line: a Siberian Hitch on one end, and a Taut Tarp Hitch on the other. Super quick to tie and to release.

Outstanding video thanks for sharing. Before watching this video I would have used a bowline on the anchor point and a taut-line hitch. To be honest I probably still would only because that is what I'm used to, but I'll keep trying to learn more ways to do things.

Taunt line hitch or trucker hitch
No spoon required. Bonus: no bogus wrapping willy-nilly.

So..idea is instead of loops you can use marlin spiked spoons and instead of knots coils? Intersting😅
Bcs windlass or tautline or just tension hold with some half-hitches seems easier

Also, the type of rope you use for clothesline should not be able to stretch much

    • @jurkoot
      @jurkoot หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Or you make it so that you can easily re-tension the line. Most ropes only stretch a bit in the beginning.

Make a video talking about safety aspects of running a rope at tension in something like a clothes line. What's the kind of rope to use, how much weight can different ropes hold, how to tell if the rope has enough tension to hold the maximum amount of weight for the length.

I love you knot videos. Do you have a recommendation for a kit or training rig to practice all the many different knots you know? I want to lock more into memory, but I need something better than a table with the legs as crummy anchor points

I've always enjoyed your knot videos, but this one seems less thought out than normal. Using a marlin spike as a cleat instead of a handle and finishing the knot with just wraps? I cringed when you showed how to tie the marlin spike wrong, and then you turned around and did it on purpose!??! I know you have a dozen different knots you could use, but this is just inefficient and not secure. Is this April fools day? 😕

This really is a very strange, over engineered way of making a simple clothesline. It’s like you made some simple kind of ridgeline and then said, “Nah, it needs a little more ** looks around ** spoon! Or maybe the video was sponsored by spoon? Very cringe, but you haven’t lost my subscription! TINGA applies to me too, I guess

He did it on purpose because he intended it for the opposite direction. I think it reinforces that the marlin spike hitch is directional, and which direction to point it.
I agree this could have just as easily done with a trucker's hitch, but I also agree with him that wrapping things around a solid object is simpler for a lot of people than tying two half hitches on a line that's in tension.
