Had the great fortune to see Peter perform at Camp Greensky yesterday. A memorable performance indeed.

I remember lying in the grass way past midnight and Peter Rowan would always end his set with this song. Then it would be time to start wandering from campsite to campsite listening to all the other musicians until dawn. I REALLY miss those bluegrass festivals.

Since the 70's, Peter Rowan has always stunned me in concert. I walk away feeling clean and holy. That happens with very few people I've seen in concert.

I had the rare privilege of running sound for Peters' solo set yesterday at the Rogue Valley Rootsfest 2015 in Ashland, Or. and he totally blew me away with this song. Cheers!

I heard Peter play this last night, first time I had heard it. Now I can't stop hearing it, and even when I am not playing it, I am still hearing it, shivers.

How is it that I'm 57 and this is the first time I heard this. Needless to say, I'm blown away. Thanks for posting.

A stellar performance. I saw Rowan perform this initially in Louisvile, Ky on The Galt House belvedere during the KFC-sponsored birthday bash/festival for Bill Monroe's birthday in September, 1981...A memory etched in time. This solo version is equally unforgettable. Thanks for sharing this great video of this talented musician!

Love this solo acoustic version. Thank you AMSD; my FMA cassette wore out years ago; album out of print. Never thought I'd get to hear this song again.

First heard Peter sing "Land Of The Navajo" on Austin City Limits back in the early 80s. As I have always been an Advocate for the {American Indian} & How the White man took their Land & Way of Life, It really got to my Inner Consience

He almost sounds like Bob Dylan.

Nice to see the pro's can completely forget crucial verses too, not just me then!! lol xxx
Said Jack to Running Elk, I'll gamble all my precious stones
Before I leave my body here among these bleaching bones
But now my time is drawing near and I'm filled with dark regret
My spirit longs to journey as the sun begins to set
For we raped and killed, we stole your land, we ruled with guns and knives
Fed whiskey to your warriors while we stole away your wives
Said Running Elk, what's done is done, you white men rule this land
So lay the cards face up and play your last broken-hearted hand
