Heidi's Surprise | Billy Sharp & Aaron Ramsdale pretend to be groundsmen in Christmas Surprise.

- United joined forces with Weston Park Cancer Charity to give a breast cancer patient, a Blades fanatic, and her 11-year-old daughter a present they will never forget.
Mum Helen Kaye and daughter Heidi Proost were invited to Bramall Lane where they were met with a light show, the club mascot, and a video of special messages from family, friends, one of her teachers and members of the Blades men’s and women’s first team played on the big screen whilst the words ‘We love you Heidi we do, oh Heidi we love you.’ was emblazoned in red and white across the pitch side LED screens.
Then Heidi stepped out on to the hallowed turf where she had the chance to take penalties in front of the Kop with Billy Sharp and Aaron Ramsdale on hand, disguised as Blades ground staff for the night, to make the occasion extra special. Helen and the rest of the family were in on the surprise, but Heidi, who plays for the United U12s girls team, had no idea.
And that made for an emotional reaction as she was led out through the players tunnel on to the pitch, in her special United shirt, and welcomed onto the pitch by the stadium announcer in front of her U12s teammates who had gathered in the directors box within the Tony Currie Stand to cheer her on.
Helen has been treated for breast cancer at Weston Park Cancer Centre since her diagnosis in August and admitted Heidi had been struggling to come to terms with her illness.
Helen said: “It’s been a tough year and it has been incredibly difficult to see the impact that has had on Heidi. But she’s been an amazing support to me. She’s been my rock.
“She’s had to spend time away from our home when I’ve had to isolate, and she’s had to cook for me when I’ve had no energy because of my treatment. I really wouldn’t have been able to come this far without her and I am so, so proud of her.
“Heidi is football mad and we’re so grateful to the club and Weston Park Cancer Charity for arranging such a special experience for us all. It is a night that will stay with Heidi for a long, long time.”
United’s head of operations Dave McCarthy met Heidi and her family in the Blades Superstore with a made-up story about needing a fan to answer a question to win a shirt.
When Heidi ‘won’, she was given the shirt with her name on the back and made the walk down the tunnel.
Dave said: “This club is all about supporting our local community and, in this case, looking after one of our own.
“Heidi is part of the Sheffield United family and when we heard about her story and the tough time she and her family have been having, we knew we had to help.
“Every year the players love going into the hospital to deliver presents to the patients and staff. Obviously, that couldn’t happen this year but hopefully we’ve managed to put big a smile on a little girl’s face.”

Been a Blade since I was 6 when my dad brought me to the Lane and sat me on his shoulders above a sea of flat caps on the kop and things like this make me glad I was born to a father who was an avid fan. We really are the peoples club ! Brilliant.
