As she did when we were privileged to hear and see her in person, technology now assures her immediate presence on video; and once again we stand in admiration and awe at the unmitigated beauty of her faithful expression and blending of Handel’s majestic music and her resplendent voice; it refines the music’s resounding grandeur and its divine sublimity. This and the memory of her legacy leaves us deeply moved, enchanted, and weeping. Thank you!
Tatiana Troyanos is my benchmark for Cleopatra and possibly Caesar too. Amazing range and versatility. One doesn't care if she leaves out ornamentation--the lines are so strong and clear in her role as Cleopatra.
@fairlytaleofnewyork That's what I thought. What an amazing shot. The very first time I heard her voice was a Met broadcoast of Troyens -- the love duet with her and Domingo. I was blown away and have been ever since.
Oddly, I saw Mme Troyanos at Le Grand Théâtre, Genève about 1981 In Giulio Cesare but she sang the role of Caesar and was more than extraordinary. It was entirely a production once in a lifetime. Even Handel would have been pleased.
Powerful and gorgeous. Thank you for posting that. But where did the visual come from? It doesn't seem to be the same aria at all - she is not even singing for the last few minutes. Well - whatever it is, how beautiful. One of her gifts was that of stillness. Such self-control and immersion in character... she could stand immobile and allow the power to build purely from the music embodied in her voice (and her marvelous face and bearing). In that quality, this reminds me of her amazing Kundry.

The visual comes from ", Les Troyens", Troyanos as Didon. She is absolutely amazing as Didon, too.
Many thanks for watching

Se la mia anima avesse una voce sarebbe la sua.
