Very few instruments speak to me. First it was the cello, then the erhu; but this one . . . this one not only speaks to me but calls me to pick it up and let it speak for me.
I’m curious, what does this sound like to other people? What do you see when you close your eyes? I feel like this is supposed to be a somewhat grim song, but for me the lowest notes are the grain of wood and the higher parts are flashes of sunlight. In the middle are green grass, dust, yellow flowers, and a few glimpses of brilliant red cloth. It sounds like a long walk or a ride in a wooden wagon on a summer day, in short.
I see galloping horses, mountains, and large expansive fields of moss, rock, and grass. Occasionally I hear fire. I agree that this is great travelling music.
I see mist over a still lake and a dense forest with mountains in the distance. The imagery I see is quite dark and gloomy looking but that’s not how I feel when I picture it, it feels calm and serene.

Your playing is absolutely gorgeous, with such great phrasing and intensity! I only specialize in Horn, but I will always be fascinated with obscure, stringed instruments especially when played by such a fascinating and skilled musician!
