    I never would have guessed that a pyramid would be in Rome. How odd?! Thank you for educating us on this and lots more. Brilliant!

    Hey ASG, I have seen that wall that nearly encircled Rome. The sheer scale of it is hard to describe but it had me scratching my head. I didn't see the pyramid though. No one even told me about it. I was only there for a week and it was 45 degrees so you could only go out for short periods. Big shout to you and amazing camera man.

      @ancientsitesgirl  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! 😁 I've read that the wall was built by the inhabitants of Rome as Aurelius needed his Legions at the battlefield, hence the wall was completed so quickly and was also so long, but I couldn't find any reliable source that would confirm it. 🤷‍♀️ 45 degrees in Rome, oh my, I can also imagine those hordes of tourists 😮

    A Pyramid?..in Rome? WHAT?? Lol. I guess it's safe to say if not for the Pyramid, Cestious would have been forgotten by history. Those walls are mightily impressive! Great video and best of luck with your new Patreon support. Hope to see more soon. 🤞🤘😁🖖🇨🇦

    It is a great feeling to see that they have monuments like a pyramid from a culture that was conquered, as a tomb for the Romans. The pyramid is a beautiful testament in this great journey. Thank you Irena, your friend from Key West Ingrid Holm

    Today the The Histocrat uploaded an episode about the punic war and you do this one. it is fascinating How Rome succeeded because it always learned and adapted from its enemies instead of being intimidated by their cultures and ways. the west always tried to isolate the middle eastern influences From the Story of Rome although they are so clear to see. like how in pompeii too many Egyptian temples of ISIS were found.

    Thanks for showing it. Never ceases to amaze me how these centuries, in this case millenia old structrues still stand today, looking better than some buildings not even a fraction of their age you can spot in cities today. I really wonder how much restoration work they did in 1663 if I read the inscription correctly.

    • @ancientsitesgirl
      @ancientsitesgirl  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed, they restored it in the seventeenth century, it is strange that they did not decorate it with some papal coat of arms...

    I had no idea there was a pyramid in Rome let alone two of them once. I'm glad you got to see it, I would love to see you go in? I read that it is stylistically 'Roman' inside and is decorated with fresco paintings and the inner chamber has a barrel vaulted ceiling. I'm sure it looks beautiful. And how remarkable is the Aurelian wall, it looks so cool in the city, they must be proud of their heritage to still have so many monuments still standing all around.
    You know everything Irena, you are a genius 🏅

    Your videos really are great Irena! The pyramid looks very Nubian in scale and inclination, and given that pyramids were still being built at this time in Meroe, I wonder if the Romans imported the expertise to build this structure? I believe there were several other pyramids built in Rome at the same time, now demolished.

    • @ancientsitesgirl
      @ancientsitesgirl  ปีที่แล้ว

      We know of two, but there were certainly more. They differ from the African ones in the construction technique, the Roman ones are concrete and brick covered with veneer. THANKS ✌️

    I truly believe that Gaius Cestius based this pyramid on the Giza pyramids . It’s steep like Nubian Pyramids but it if you read Herodotus description of his visit to the Giza pyramids , they seem very similar . Also look closely at the very top remaining White limestone blocks on top of khafre’s pyramid , they are very similar in construction style .
