The difference between this song and Katy Perry is that THIS song sounds like what it FEELS like to kiss a girl for the first time! Perry's song sounds simply performative, playing into hetero-male fantasies of two girls (I hope my boyfriend doesn't mind it, she sings with a tone that sounds made for turning men on)
I haven't seen this in ages! Love it! Jill fans know that THIS is the original "I Kissed a Girl". I met Jill at a Starbucks in Dearborn Michigan where she played a show in the late ninety's. 😊
He has a good sense of humor about not taking himself too seriously. He was doing an appearance at our local Sam's Club about 15 years ago. He did a humorous cameo for a church video with our pastor's wife stalking him in the store just because the pastor asked him.
I attended a Madeleine Peyroux concert in LA on Saturday, 3/16/2024, and didn't realize there was an opening act until we were seated. I told my wife " I've heard of this Jill Sobule girl, but I'm not familiar with her music." Well i guess i got that all wrong, but anyway she was excellent, solo with only a guitar and a bunch of effects pedals. And she was a riot, had us laughing before the first song, between songs and even some funny banter during her songs! Recommended.
Yeah, it's definitely her playing it. I've seen her live a few times and every once in a while she'll pick up an electric guitar and start wailing away. Love the tone she uses on this song.
MTV Buzz Clips in the 90s brought me here to see this music video. I hear Jill Sobule sings the theme song for "Nickelodeon's Unfabulous" in the 2000s. Now, she sang a song that involves kissing a girl? Wow, this is where #samelove started in the early 1990s. Thank god for this music video. One more thing, ladies are head over heels for the love of Fabio! : )
I loved Jill Sobules music from the first time I heard her sing Things Here are Different. She tells a story within the song so beautifully and I do understand why she was not more successful. She most probably did not want to play the game that most Artist eventually succumb to and there are millions of artists like this and it is very sad but for those of us with ears to hear and an open heart, we did not miss out!
Ms. Sobule, if this really is your official channel, you should be made aware that TH-cam is crediting this song as being written by Max Martin, Katy Perry, Cathy Dennis and Łukasz Gottwald. This means that any royalties being generated by people watching this video are going to them instead of you and Robin Wright. Granted, TH-cam royalties are generally minuscule, but it's not like any of those people need the money. Also, in addition to this video, several other channels have also uploaded your song and/or video and in those cases the wrong songwriters are also being credited. Just thought you should know, and hope you're able to resolve this issue (and be compensated accordingly).
So wait, what are you saying? I can credit myself as the writer of "Band On The Run," post a video using that song, and I'll be compensated until Paul Mccartney steps in to complain? I don't know... If true, that sounds like a hell of a loophole!
Relax, it doesn't matter what's in the description. That's just the algorithm confusing it with a more widely known song. All that matters is whether a content ID copyright is enforced in analytics. As the uploader it's impossible for Jill to not know whether this has happened. TH-cam is ad-based, not royalty-based because technically only the copyright holder is allowed to upload their material. No money is generated by videos on youtube other than ad revenue. This goes to the uploader unless another entity steps in and says "You don't own the material you posted, WE do", and the uploader can either dispute or concede. Disputing would be settled in court, conceding would give the claimant the ad revenue instead of the uploader. Whenever someone talks about youtube royalties they're referring to the ad revenue, not the pay-per-play royalty setup of radio and TV. If the uploader is a business, a record label for example, _they_ would have to pay royalties to the songwriter out of the ad revenue received from youtube. TH-cam has no involvement in that, they simply pay the owner (uploader). Of course in this case Jill (if this really is her) would be getting the revenue directly from youtube through this account. So rest assured, whatever the case she's aware of it.
When I was in high school in 2008, we had a team building exercise where teams had to sing a random song they gave us. The teacher said, "I Kissed a Girl". Oh man I thought they meant this song because I didn't really listen to the radio. So I started singing this song instead, all confident and loud. The others who already started singing Katy Perry's song stopped to look at me. Everyone was looking at me confused. Absolute social suicide lol
The first time I heard about this song was when my mom said she heard it on the radio and was complaining about the "immorality" of music "these days." Jokes on you mom, this girl kisses a girl every day and she's my wife.
