This made me cry, from “I love cooking for a crowd” and only cooking for one to cooking for your family. The silent background to laughter and from tip segments for opening stubborn jars to Michael segments where he opens them for you. I just know that house is full of joy
It’s been so quiet here this week without the kids, before they went home I told Michael “I don’t wanna just cook for the two of us now” I love cooking for the kids
@DollarTreeDinners I've been sick since shortly before December 15th with bronchitis. Then my mom got sick with it, too. So I haven't gone to church for the past several weeks, and we can't really go anywhere unless it's important. Mom is a bus driver so she didn't work when kids went back to school after Christmas, and yesterday and today there's no school because of snow. We got a good amount of snow, too. Too bad we can't spend much time outside - only as much as needed to let my dog play and run and do dog business.
Thanks for sharing, I just the background sounds of children and Legos (as long as you don't step on them😊) I miss hearing children chattering. Let Michael know that you just loosened the jar lid for him😊 BTW, You and Michael have beautiful skin ❤
@DollarTreeDinners you are like me. When my child goes to spend the night at my parents, it's so quiet in my home and I'm like, I don't want to cook for me and my husband and its to quiet
I’m so jealous you got snow! I hoped for snow for years and then as soon as I move away Virginia got snowed in. It’s like I’m cursed lol
What I love abut your videos is that they are grounded in reality. So the 'ambient noise' of kids having fun, dogs running around, and washing machines beeping just add to that!
I love the background noise 😅
Loved the background noise and how creatively you used each ingredient! ❤
I love this new way of showing your family meals. Don’t worry about noise or distraction…it’s called family! You are totally awesome.
Absolutely!, I'm the family member that likes eating lol
So true, I’m sick of highly edited content. I want to see real people living their real lives!
@@alexyssaubrie1606 yes me too, cooking watching shows are one of the things I do when I'm bored, I also try making the ones I can but I'm not much of a great cook what I'm best at is eating
@@alexyssaubrie1606if we wanted highly edited we would be watching traditional tv
100%
I bet you’re the most fun stepmom ever. Hope all is well in your new location!
That is so sweet of you to say! I’m so glad to be back cooking!
My children called me mama candy Andy her children called her mama Sandra and we just called each other family ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Kiddos (and Michael) are so lucky to have your amazing home cooked meals. As a single mom I can appreciate someone who cares so much for their partner’s kiddos. I have made so many of your recipes and have recommended your page to a bunch of people who need to cook on a budget.
Hit a super tough financial patch this year after my grandpa passed away… your channel IS A LIFE SAVER! I have a school age kiddo and your recipes are quick, easy and delicious! I love the realism and creativity you bring to this platform. HAVE A BLESSED NEW YEAR ❤❤❤❤
Sorry for your loss. 😢
@ thank you 🙏🏼
❤❤ to you
Recomnend Southern frugal momma if you need some more recipes
@ will definitely check her out! Thank you so much! 🫶🏼🫶🏼
I'm sorry for the loss of your grandmother😢
Like this format. Family noise is normal and truly shows what it is like to cook at home.
Small suggestions for the ham and cheese crossaint rolls. If you keep the dough as a sheet in a rectangle and layer the cheese and ham , you can roll it up and then cut into pinwheels then that way the ham is totally enclosed
That is a great idea! I will try that next time, thanks for the tip!
I just have to tell you Rebecca, I've been watching your videos for a year and I feel that you, Michael, your dogs and now Michael's kids are some of the most delightful people on the planet. I've always loved your content but you just seem so much happier and comfortable since you've moved to Washington and that makes all of us happier and more comfortable! As always, I walk away from your videos with so many great ideas that I'm saving money and being much more aware of what I have and what I need to use. Thank you for teaching this 75 year old woman some very valuable lessons ! Happy New Year to you and your family!❤
I think of her like a granddaughter. Like you, I smile while I'm learning some great ideas. They are family 😊
So wonderful to have Michael in your videos and so nice to see a family morning.
You are so kind ❤️
I enjoy hearing your family in the back ground. It’s realistic life…mom cooking dinner while the kids play with dad.
What a great tip! I've never heard about adding a little wet mix into the dry mix for a little extra crunch when breading chicken. That's why I love your channel Rebecca. There are literally thousands upon thousands of cooking channels out there and I've been subscribed to most of them at one point or another, but I learn things from you that I've never learned from anyone else. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us, lol. You're honestly the best cooking channel I've ever watched... including those I grew up watching on tv, not just here on TH-cam 😀
I am so glad you liked the tip and thank you for such a kind compliment!
You’ve become my comfort TH-camr!! I always look forward to your videos!!❤
Yes you are a natural chef even if a person isn’t struggling you get great ideas. You are like the Martha Stewart for the modern world.
Y’all are too cute. Love Michael’s super powers 😂.
I am so happy for you on your relocation to the PNW. Nothing like being closer to family. I love your videos…keep doing what you do girl!
You are so thoughtful of everyone in your household and their preferences. Great job being efficient with your resources too.
I know you mentioned the noise, but I think it adds so much more life to the videos! As long as you are comfortable with having your family on camera I think it's a lovely to have the background sound of life just happening as the backdrop.
The sloppy joe cornbread casserole gave me a great idea. I love tamale pie, but most recipes always seem to go really heavy on the cornbread. I liked how the cornbread crust was thinner here. I will use this recipe as an inspiration for my own version of tamale pie. Cornbread layer with corn and cheese on the bottom, taco meat with onions and peppers and pinto beans on the top, more shredded cheese, and then chopped green onions, black olives, and maybe pickled jalapeno slices for those of us that like spicy garnishes. Thanks for sharing. I love your videos. I started following a few weeks ago. Honestly, it's so great to see what I think of as normal family meals. My husband and I both work long hours. It can be a struggle to come up with dinner ideas when we are tired from a long day.
Oh tamale pie sounds so good! I'm going to add that to my list of meals :) I bet the kiddos would love that! Michael's daughter likes nachos because she doesn't like tortillas. So your tamale pie sounds right up her alley.
@@DollarTreeDinners Awesome! Even if you don't film making tamale pie, I would love to know the kiddos reactions.🥰
That sounds like the farthest thing from a tamale
@@TBEfect Tamale pie isn't a tamale at all, but I can understand the confusion. Inspired recipes are rarely authentic. Much love to you. I always say, "You do you, and I'll do me. We'll all be happy in between."
This video reminds me so much of when my kids were young and playing in the living room while I made their meals. I’d hear “ Mom, you’re making me even more hungry because it smells so good!” It makes me miss cooking for little ones. They’re 26 & 22 now and I mostly cook for myself (been divorced since 2009) unless they are coming to visit, so I don’t really make big family style meals much anymore. This was a VERY realistic depiction of what cooking throughout the week is like on a budget, when you have kids at home. I still shop at Aldi (best low cost grocery store near me) & Meijer to save on food. Being a single mom really helps you get your all your ducks in a row when it comes to food shopping for the week and videos like this are so helpful. You are very much appreciated by this community 😊
I really love seeing your family life, the transition of the move, and how different it is on the other side of the country for you. At first I thought maybe it would be really weird and too different but I'm really digging this whole family thing and give Mike another shout-out for being so great to you and for your channel. I can speak for everyone here - we love him. And your puppers. I'm loving your new life and style and I'm so glad you've made us a part of it.
This is one of my favorite videos from you! I love seeing how happy you are cooking for Michael and the kids. What a sweet family you have! Thank you for sharing
These look so0o0o0o good, especially that sloppy joe cornbread bake! And that is coming from someone who was formally trained in culinary arts for 6 years, then worked in the industry for 10 years before getting burn out and dealing with skin issues on my hands making me step away.
Regarding the comment about being in a communal area of the house, I hope that the background noise does not make you feel insecure. This blog address' it in the title! Its a week of FAMILY meals. It shows humanity, and that not all creators are robots. I think a dose of reality is what most people need to see online, real people with real lives. If anyone is upset about that.... they can take a long walk off a short bridge. Love your videos in all formats you have presented, one of my favorite channels to watch. You are doing great!
Rebecca...I am loving hearing the kids and Michael on your video's!! So much more personal and natural!! Great video! 🎉❤🎉
Oh yeah...AND the pups!!🐕🐕 Love them too!!♥️♥️
Indeed, im going to try to make some but what I love doing is eating
Rebecca, I just want to say I watch and love all of your videos. However, this has been the best one I've seen you do. The real life of Michael and the kids in the background, and the camera angles showing things out of place on the counters. I didn't know before today that your videos were missing something, but it was the real life that you showed today. I absolutely loved today's video. I hope your new house doesn't keep you separated from the rest of the family!
Breakfast idea from Hawaii! So I’m stationed in Hawaii with my husband and we have fried spam, eggs( scrambled or fried ) and link sausage for breakfast a lot of the time with hot sauce ! Maybe it will be a fan favorite with your family
Our freezer is small, too. We bought an Insignia chest freezer for the garage and it has been so helpful. We have the 7 cubic foot version and it holds so much. I have frozen meat, bread, veggies, and fruits stocked up in mine. I then 'shop' the garage freezer when planning, then move stuff to the house fridge. It also lets me prep some stuff ahead of time, like cubing or slicing up meats, then bag them up and drop them in the chest freezer.
Thanks so much for continuing to share with us. I have learned so much from you over the last year!
You are an amazing parent both of you be proud and there mother should be proud of herself to I helped raise my 7 children in a blended family ❤️❤️❤️❤️so much joy and love
I love you working in the communal area! I personally enjoy it more I enjoyed you by yourself but I feel like having the family life in the background is kind of nice it's more relatable I am enjoying it
I love the new family dynamic. It's beautiful! It also makes your channel feel a little better situated to my position of boyfriend and kids. You look so happy!
It’s nice to have them here!
@@DollarTreeDinnersthe whole reason for the move was the kids ❤
I really enjoy watching people cooking meals for a family. Thanks! I hope your partner appreciates your well honed cooking prowess!!
She'll get her flowers for sure
Its better hearing the joy of family in the back ground. Our life seems more relatable with the family around being loud and happy.
honestly i think the added background ambience of micheal and the kids add something extra special to the video. also i too am a pepperjack girly, lol.
The family vibe is great, don't mind at all. Takes me back to babysitting my brothers 6 kiddo's. Love them, miss them. Those were good happy times. So, this video fills my heart with joy .
I love the family feel of the video. Cozy, comfy, and real.
I love all the happy family noises. I can tell there's lot's of love and respect for each other, and what sweet kids! Also, so fun to see more of Michael! Happy New Year, Rebecca!
I love when creators film and show real life and everything is not completely silent makes them more relatable. Love your channel!
Love hearing the kids, and I know you have been working really hard!
The background noise is great! Happy family sounds and dog cameos are always welcome. Very realistic of what we all have going on or would hope to.
Don't apologize for the noise its nice to hear the kids laughing and interacting with you 2. Family enjoy your time together.
Rebecca, I've been watching your vids and following along with recipes for a couple years, but so far (I know we're only 8 days in) in 2025 I haven't eaten out once. Which for me is about 8 less times than I used to. You've not only made affordable groceries into meals I want to eat, you've inspired me to cook at home and use what I've got to make creative & tasty meals. Thanks for doing what you do!
Love hearing the family. Don't apologize.
I adore this side of your Rebecca ❤️. The kids, Mike, dogs complete family 🎉. The new house looks also spacious n clean 🫧 loving the new environment. You're getting used to the area quite well. MARRY HER MICHAEL 🍾 MARRYYYYY HER.......❤❤❤!!! What a wonderful soul you are.....that's not an easy life but you make it look so 💋. Be well 🙏🏽.
I love your channel, and I loved the addition of the noise and kiddos, and Michael showing off his jar opening skills. This is reality, and it's lovely!
I loved this video. I enjoy videos that show "what I cook for a week". Please keep them coming. It gives me great ideas of what I can cook for my family. I'm going to make your chicken pot pie and sheet pan nachos. I have all the ingredients for those meals. I have been challenging myself to use up leftovers from the fridge, freezer and pantry and am proud of what I've accomplished. Thank you for letting us join in with you, Michael and the kids. Also, tell muscle man thank you for coming to your rescue with the queso jar. He's my hero!
I just have to give you the ultimate kudos. Most “step” moms wouldn’t be as loving to children as you are. I know when I married with step boys, my life was miserable. You are a very special woman. 💕💕💕💕 Michael and his children are blessed to have you.
I am not much for the slow cooker but I make two things in my slow cooker. One is a salsa chicken similar to yours, the other is a bbq chicken which is chicken breast, one can crushed pineapple with juice and bbq sauce. I shred it up and put in on salad,or in a tortilla wrap with either coleslaw or lettuce.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Grocery Outlet. Been going since I was a kid (40+yrs). Back then they had dented and torn label cans. Taped up boxes of cereal and dry mixes. It's still my favorite place to shop. They have new stuff every time. Best deals are on deli meats, dairy and frozen stuff. I routinely get yogurt 6/$1. Cheese for $2 lb. Check if your location has a clearance corner. Some stuff is 80%-90% when close to the sell by date.
You and Southern Frugal Mama (Brooke) are my absolute favorites for healthy budget meals. I like Lisa Dawn too. You 3 have been so helpful to those of us struggling through this inflation and I can't thank you enough!
Fre sha vocado was such a throwback LOL omg, ty for making me remember that 💞
Imagine that the kids absolutely loved 💕all the meals that you made for them while they were with you!
Great time was had by all of you! 💕
I admire how you're willing to modify ingredients on the fly based on what you have. My family didn't cook when I was growing up and I'm committed to teaching myself and my daughter (shes only 5 but has already learned everything I know lol) It's really motivating to see that we can wing it and still make something delicious! Thanks for a great video full of inspiration!
Loved hearing all the sounds of family in the background! We are living life with Lego construction as background music right now as all the kids build the fun sets they got for Christmas! Thank you for sharing this video, I found some new dinner ideas!
As a PNW grocery outlet girlie I'm loving this new content. I work 2 doors down from one and I'm there every day for affordable snacks.
Glad that Michael and you are closer to his kids and mom.
This is so much fun Rebecca but the one thing I have to win at is the margarine. It’s so bad for you.
Use butter or whipped butter, but margarine is really really bad for you
@@wendoxia Everyone thinks everything is bad. Vegans hate lard, carnivores hate vegetables, keto people hate carbs. Let’s just give everyone space to do what they want 🙂
A little fun fact, schmaltz (which can be of any animal fat, not just chicken) comes from Yiddish "shmalts" which comes from the German "Schmalz" which is related to the English word "smelt" :)
I love the sounds of family in the background, makes it seem more real and homey. I like real down to earth channels. And the tippy tappy doggie sounds. ❤
I truly love having your family in your videos. Makes them more relaxed and relatable. ❤❤
I think it is wonderful hearing the kids and Michael in the background, sounds more like a real family time.
Chicken nuggets and Mac n cheese… a kids dream!
I really enjoy this change in format. Having Micheal and the kids involved makes it even more entertaining. Hope all is going well in your new location.
Ambience of Legos-LOL! Great chance for kids to be building and be creative. I also heard that nice little "Thank You" when you fixed a plate for a young one. Very sweet!
I love Grocery Outlet and mainly where we shop. A lot of options! Love that you are including family and doggy time!
Having your family around you is the whole reason you moved! I loved hearing all the activity in the background. You look and sound so happy.
The pups look like they have settled in so well. 🐶🐶🐾🐾❤️❤️
Great video. I really enjoyed it at your new home with the dogs and kids. 😊
I love the kids, the dogs, and home sounds in the background! And we always love a jar opener! :) I love this little family.
It’s nice that the kids like the food you make, for the most part. Picky kids can make cooking a chore vs a joy. I know from experience 😮
lol they aren’t super picky but I have a good idea of what they will eat. And neither of them will ever tell me they don’t like something so I go by how much they eat or how their body language is to determine if they like it or not
I love salsa chicken. Mine is 4 chicken breasts, cup of salsa, half a packet of low sodium taco seasoning & a can of cream of chicken or mushroom soup. It's my favorite go to slow cooker meal.
25:42 I enjoy hearing the family while you're working in the kitchen ❤
I was going to say the same! Hopefully she’ll make a video with the kiddos helping out cooking. (If allowed)
I was always told that the best years you have are when the kids are young and still at home etc..I’m 63 now and I realize this to be true…cooking for a family is so much more fulfilling than cooking for one or two….. loved seeing this video!
I am loving watching you cook for your family I love the life that is happening while you are filming never apologize for any of that, it is cozy and homey to hear the joyous laughter of the kids. I am so happy for you I hope the move adds all the best things in life for you and Michael going forward in this new year and all the years to come
Aww Rebecca, will you be my stepmom! ( lmao, i am an adult, but I love the food you make for everyone!) Love all your content! ❤❤❤❤
Also...why has dollar tree not sponsored her! Just saying! ❤❤
Concensus seems to be keep the happy real life family life sounds. We all love it.
What a wonderful way to start my day…a new Dollar Tree Dinners video! ❤❤
Agreed!
Love your video and the new style! It was great seeing you use ingredients from previous videos in your everyday life. This video is very relatable. I too have a huge drawer of cheese in my fridge.
I absolutely love your new style of videos! Please keep showing your meals you cooked throughout the week etc, I loved hearing the kiddos in the background etc
Please go shopping at your discount store and take us along when go.
Continue with Dollar Tree content but please continue to add this new format and groceries from your discount store or other stores if necessary!
Happy New Year’s to you and your family!
I fun twist on your crescent roll idea: I make hot sandwiches with Phyllo Dough! (I usually find myself with extra sheets after making baklava - I'm Greek, that happens a lot! LOL) I take a small baking dish (I think mine is 9x9, but 8x8 would work or even a round cake pan) butter the bottom with melted butter, lay a sheet of phyllo, butter (There will be pieces hanging over the edge, that's what I use for the top), then lay the next sheet the opposite direction, butter, and continue until all left over sheets are used (I usually have about 5 extra sheets). Then lay whatever filling you want: left over diced chicken, lunch meats, cooked ground meets, whatever! then pull the side pieces in over the top, and butter. Bake in 350 degree oven until the sheets on top are golden brown and flaky! (usually 35-45 minutes)
I love the REAL LIFE background noise, I think it’s sweet & recorded memories the kiddos can watch later in life when they’re older. The food looked great, the cornbread slash sloppy joe seems like corn casserole with sloppy joe added to it, which looks good. Probably a little different but probably same taste an I could see that being good together!
Love this style of content!! So relatable bc everything is affordable and tiny human friendly!
Lost my phone...lost over 2 weeks, just found it in a bag 🙃 Blessings to you. Glad you're close to his kids now. Hopefully, you'll find a beautiful house to call your own soon 😊
Great video! Enjoyed this cooking format, nice to see Michael again AND the pups!
I just love the background inclusion of your family to your cooking video. So homey, so full of love and so full of great ideas per usual. You are amazing Rebecca ❤😊
Had to comment a second time, THANK YOU for the easiest drop biscuit recipe ever!! No more canned biscuits with gravy. I think I already have it committed to memory!!
I love the noise! It’s just real life and your family
I love hearing the kids and dogs and getting little Micheal cameos! ❤
I love hearing your family in the background! Great video
I lived this vlog. And the sound of the kids in the background makes it even better. You guys seem very happy at your new place. 😊
I LOVE that you’re a stepmom that makes me so happy! You and I are actually the same age, and knowing that you’re a step mom really makes me feel connected with you. Thanks so much for sharing
I don’t have kids of my own so being a stepmom is a whole other world, and I’m happy to share my experience!
I love your creativity and using up a bit of this and that to clean out your refrigerator and freezer to make wonderful meals for your family! 🙂
You are very creative with your leftovers. Love, love your videos. Blessings to you and the family.
@normaeste.....I like doing this also. Not always successful....lol....but most of the time I am.
Insanely beautiful family ❤🎉
hey hon! Just wanted to say I absolutely love watching these and I have NEVER thought of using a high-side pan to do the bacon in!! THAT IS GENIUS. I don't have an oven and haven't for years. I take care of my parents and their oven went out and it can't be replaced so I'm using an Oster countertop oven....It really is a great little thing BUT the heating element is really close on the top (of course) so doing things like 'popping a cookie sheet with bacon' really doesn't work well....kills EVERYTHING. But the high sides pan is something that might just do! THANK YOU!
Lots of choices. I love how you let the kids choose what they want to eat❤😊
Rebecca I love your videos. Liking the new style including Michael’s blog. I like the instructions printed but is it possible to make it a bit larger as an older viewer looking at the phone it’s a bit harder to read and I don’t want to miss any content or instructions. I don’t know if anyone else has this issue but the eyes, video with background then light from phone the struggle is real! Thank you for sharing these great meal ideas!
Added: love the kids, Michael and dogs noise in video it’s just normal. I don’t think you should worry about it! Its love and family ❤
I have no problem with the sounds of kiddos and hubby and life happening in the background. You are letting us into your life, which is a privilege for us, so no apologies necessary! Happy New Year!
I love hearing your family in the background, it makes your videos that much more relatable! Not that you aren’t but I feel like that scenario is what most families go through
You have brought me so much joy simply watching you cook for your family! One of my favorite sounds is the sound of laughter from a child. You are a true treasure, Rebecca❤
Loving the “ambient sounds”! Reminds me of when. Mine were little and hanging around. The oldest is now 36 and the youngest 19….cherish the noise!❤❤
The new home looks good with your cooking. The light kitchen with natural light really showcases your cooking and life. Lots of smiles on both your faces! Also great week of kid approved meals.😋😋😋
I must say, Rebecca, I loved your east coast videos so much, but I am really loving your west coast content. I really enjoy watching you interact with Michael and the kids. You guys seem so happy out there and it really comes through in the videos. Loki cracked me up when his plans changed. Happy New Year! Can't wait to see what you have planned for this year❤❤❤
A fun video! I admire your ability to make enjoyable meals from “use it up” items. Michael is a fun addition to your videos,
I am loving your videos so much! You, Michael and the kids are such a cute little family. Michael, aka the Super Hero, just cracks me up!
