PLEASE SUBSCRIBE, RATE, AND COMMENT! This is a how-to video on removing a steering wheel airbag. This is for a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, however I'm sure most vehicles will be similar.
I would take your car to a mechanic to see about that small child in your dash. Great video. Love your interior colors. May I ask how you got red around the dash area?
I watched the same video, and mine took a little more love, but they are actually just pressure clips, and by clips I mean metal expansion clips. So you do actually have to use a little force, but they are metal so they shouldn't break. I was able to get all the bezels off the first time in about 10 minutes.
i couldn't see very well, but is the wiring harness present still for the non included audio controller that goes on the right prong on higher trims? i got an aftermarket radio and was wondering if it was possible to just nab the audio controller from a junk yard of a higher ranked cobalt and hook it up with a proper adapter.
Only if you're completely disconnecting the airbag. But you can just let it hang from the steering wheel like I did, and it allows access to remove the plastic bezels to paint them
If my airbag is still intact and I take off the front of the steering wheel as you have shown, will it deploy or anything or will it be fine to remove without disturbing the airbag
Okay. Now I have to ask this: HOW DID YOU GET THE TRIM OFF?! I watched a video and, amazingly, they just popped RIGHT OFF for the guy. I get in my car and what happens? It feels as if pulling on it will break it. Is there some secret?
Francis B I know this is years old but definitely REMOVE THE BATTERY AND DISCHARGE the vehicle properly. I would go as far as pulling the fuse for it as well, you DO NOT want that airbag going off in your face. All of what I said should be prefaced in this video as doing this job from this video could give you a permanent air bag light or could seriously harm/kill you. Do your research before taking on tasks with systems in vehicles that are explosive.
Haha, I do believe it felt like it was going to break but mine never did, seems like the faster I pulled the easier the clips let go. That may be some really bad advice though lol
Hahaha yea that kid's been stuck in there for a while :). I just removed all the trim pieces, sanded them smooth and found spray paint that almost matches perfectly
Super glad to find this video. Thank you for uploading it! I was trying to figure out how to get to the side pieces on the steering wheel so I can paint them, as you have yours painted. Yay! :)
Thanks for the video it helps a lot when someone is actually talking and explaining the process
The part where you showed what I was actually trying to actuate was perfect. Before that I spent 5 minutes poking around with no results. Thanks.
No problem
Saved my day! Thanks
Thanks man, now I can sell the airbag from the car I stole last night.
thanks man appreciate it

Looking to buy an sri vectra airbag and backplate, with wiring right now in glenrothes
thanks so dam much. I could not figure that out for the life of me
If your just taking it off the wheel to get at the two side panels on each side and not unpluging airbag do you have to disconnect battery?

Any idea how to replace the emblem only?
Damn that interior red is cool

did u have to disarm the air bag first??
you dont have to turn off the battery or anything before detaching the airbag? I wanna paint the little plastic parts which are gray

There's screws that hold the pieces into it. You'll see them once you pull the airbag down
Mine must be welded on, I spent 2 hours trying to get it off.

It won't deploy just don't mess with the wiring back there and you'll be fine
I didnt fully take out the airbag, just detached it.

jojo beenz There is a little silicone cover under the ignition. Pull it out and there are two holes.
