What a great band. Deserves to be documented with a real live album, as do several of Sco's bands over the years. If Chet Baker can have 150 live albums on the market, surely there's an appetite for a few more by Sco.

Hand Jive is the best album he ever made, I think (I have them all). I have probably listened to it more than any other jazz album I own... and I own a lot. Love Sco's slightly clotted, knotty, tone. Great to have this live performance. Music for the ages...

@@tadhgokeeffe2127hey dude, just wanted to say hello and hell fuckin yeah 👍. I'm a Scofield disciple. Self taught guitarist, for 16 years. My teacher, well one half of my teacher (Robben Ford being #2), has been Sco. I have used each one of his albums as an extended lesson. Basically, I'd get an album and listen to it over and over for at least 3-4 days. Then, sit down w guitar, pen &paper and get to work transcribing. Heads were always easy, obviously, but where I was taken to school, was during my transcriptions of masters solos. Jesus did that fuckin leave me stunned haha. Anywho, I'd get a whole song or two written out and then I'd sit and go thru it with analysis on my mind. Like what's he playing over this chord here blah blah. I'd write down the devices for myself to practice with later. Often, I'd use. Those devices and transpose those sections into at least 5 random keys. That helped me stick. Sorry for the babble but that's my preface for this :
Once I got to HandJive, I was kinda getting really good, really fast. My work with A-Go-Go really shot my playing up to the stratosphere. I have always been a big Deadhead, also indulging in other jam bands like Moe, Panic, Cheese and Phish. I had weekly jam seshs with a group of dudes who were all Phish chasers. I'll never forget one night after a few hours of playing, the bassist and other guitar player both looked at me and said 'hey what's the deal? How'd you get like that so quick?'. Lmao. I said "Scofield records, pen and paper, drive to learn and about....250 hours' lmao. They were my first students, as I was asked to show them the way. I have now tutored 51 young guitarists. Each one has Sco's discography and can play you every head and Sco solo on every track on at least one album lol. A few of em are absolutely monster work ethic havers and can play you any Sco solo in any key over any track haha. Shit gets me smiling.i hope one day to be able to share that with him. He has inspired me to such a degree that like....I can't imagine life without

Irwin with the PBS/NPR bass type solos.
Sorry, his walking and holding it down is incredible though.

If you look up "groove" in the dictionary it would just say Eddie Harris.
