It's a transcendental experience, the first time you read Lord of Light. You won't understand the continuity, but you won't notice, reading the Poet Laureate of Science Fiction/Fantasy. Then the second time will be just as great, with a possible third read incase you forgot to puzzle out the continuity and time skips. 😂🤣 Then the inevitable fourth read to just enjoy the prose. 😮🐶 Do check out the NESFA short story collection. So much research and backstories, and context to marvel over. A truly stunning and wonderful collection by the Master, taken from us far too soon. 😭🥺😢
Vatta's War is a perennial reread for me. There is a short story prequel in Elizabeth Moon's collection Moon Flights. She started a follow-up series called Vatta's Peace, but I have yet to get into those.
A very fascinating method to pick your next reads. I could never do it that way. I’m very mood-driven and I always have to pick a book that fits my current mood or interest … or at least which I think will fit to that mood I’m in. Many times, the book can’t live up to my expectations, which might be a sure indicator that my approach is flawed … 😉
There's an element of choice in the method too. I get the 3 readers picks, plus i can choose which books I feel like reading from the random shelf. It's fun. Thanks for watching 👀!
One reviewer summed up Zelazny for me when he wrote: "In other words, Roger Zelazny is a master story teller. You may start out in the dark in his stories, but you are soon aware that you are in good hands." You can relax and enjoy the ride as you put together all the puzzle pieces Zelazny plants along the way. It is a fun re-read for me.
I hope you enjoy the Elizabeth Moon Vatta series. I'm on the fifth book in that series. They're easy enjoyable reads. And it's very obvious the author has military experience. Can't wait to hear your review of it
A clever game, Jon, and lots of fun. You never seem daunted by a mountainous monthly TBR. Are you SURE you don't have a clone somewhere? Regardless, spiffy episode, thanks! Cheers.
I'm not so elaborate with my book choice: I usually choose 2 books and toss a coin! I see you've got Brunner's "The Crucible of Time" on your shelves. If you haven't read that I recommend it. A brilliant portrait of an alien race, a bit unusual for Brunner, but worth the time.
great method of randomizing. when you read the Blish, the only one i've read, you will be struck by the similarity to our current political situation in the USA. i was floored. you will also notice a lot of Star Trek precursors. a very interesting list, you will have a good month. i'm still enjoying Stand on Zanzibar but started The Terror alongside it. i seem to read more slowly these days, but Zanzibar requires the pace. it's very much in the P.K. Dick arena, dense. The Terror satisfies my Conrad nautical type jones. exploration!
Hi Stephen, yes I'm really looking forward to my reading this month! I'd like to read The Sheep Look Up by Brunner, need tonfind a copy first...cheers, thanks for watching 👀!
Just got a nice copy of the sheep look up taken me a while to find, and a nice hardback of snow by Adam Roberts ,not read anything by him yet. Reading Frankenstein at the moment . That’s quite a list you have to read there jon.
Most of what I've read lately is playing out in my country's politics. While reading the fifth book in the Elizabeth Moon's Vatta series I got distracted by the Batman and the Outsiders graphic novel. In it there's a US funded evil organization called The Force of July. All of its members aren't American citizens. One of the members shouted Make America Great Again. That series was written in the late 1980's. Just crazy.
I don’t understand how people keep their unread books in with their read books…I’d end up mixing things up or more likely forgetting I even had a book on a particular shelf that I haven’t read. I have separate shelves for all my unread stuff so it’s easier to get a look of what to grab next when I’m done with my current read. And you have a a lot more books too. 😄
Wait till you find out they aren't even shelved alphabetically! Utter chaos. I have a pretty good recall for what I've read in the past, and latterly I've been keeping a reading record, so it's not too confusing for me. I haven't counted them up, but I'd guess my unread books far outnumber my read books. Thanks for watching 👀!
@@SciFiScavenger Yeah, I don't go too crazy....I don't do alphabetically or anything, just keep series together is about as much organization is I do, but yeah, separating my unread books is helpful. It also lets you just take a look and see how many unread books you have or don't have. And if you want to kind of line up a few unread books as things to read next you could...instead of searching through all your shelves trying to find ones you haven't read, etc. Good stuff though, hopefully you read some good ones this month!
Bloom is very good, a bit of a mix of Blood Music and The Quiet War. Ministry... has a brilliantly gripping opening chapter, but, sadly, the rest of the novel is rather dry. Robopocalypse should go directly to used book store. It's that bad. Frankenstein Unbound has some good ideas, but it's far from Aldiss' best work. Still, compared to Roger Corman's absolutely terrible film adaptation it's close to beign a masterwork. Lord of Light is pure sf, and very good one. It's shame that you had to skip RCW's The Harvest. It's a fantastic novel. My favorite Wilson.
I vaguely remember reading something about that. I'm generally a believer in separating the art from the artist, but there are limits. Thanks for watching 👀!
I'm reading all of Zelazny's novels (slowly) in order and Lord of Light will be my next as well! Many people have recommended it as his best.
I hear good things, it'll be my first Zelazny, far as I recall. Thanks for watching 👀!
Lord of light is excellent think you will enjoy that

Thanks, I'm looking forward to it, the series has plenty of fans. Hopefully it'll work for me too. Thanks for watching 👀!
I'm on the fifth book in the series. Had to stop halfway through it. Because I got distracted with the Batman and the Outsiders graphic novel.
Definitely some interesting choices in your resulting list. That said, a well earned like for the C64 t-shirt... :)
Ha thanks, i never even had one, my best friend did. I had a ZX Spectrum. I was jealous. Thanks for watching 👀!

Great list, Bloom is amazing.

Sounds like perfect holiday/vacation reading then! Fab, thanks for watching 👀!

I managed 10 in June, left 4 by the wayside. They'll live to fight another day. Cheers Rick, thanks for watching 👀!

Ah good to know re Crucible, I had no idea what it was about. Thanks for watching 👀!
I’m so excited for your thoughts on Lord of Light
Cheers, thanks for watching 👀!
Hey!
Except for KSR´s The Ministry of the Future I didn´t read anything of your selection. Looking forward to all of them.
Have a good week!
Hi Thorsten, you too, thanks for watching 👀!

Hiya. All duly noted! I like KSR, even if he is a bit dry at times. Cheers, and thanks for watching!
Throw those Bradley books in the trash. The woman was a monster.

@@SciFiScavenger Look up the book her daughter wrote and then tell me how you feel. The Last Closet by Moira Greyland.
I saw Escapology. I really enjoyed that but its sequel was booooooring.
Duly noted, cheers Montie, thanks for watching 👀!
BO!
