      @@tightcamper Tanzania trained the fighters but the war ended after Thatcher agreed to majority rule and Machel agreed to end the war. Tanzania was a poor country and didn't have much to offer other than offering training and some arms

      @@GlobalSouthObserver Fact check. Without going into detail it was Bishop Muzorewa and Lt Gen Walls who agreed to the ceasefire and subsequent elections. Thatcher facilitated it. Mugabe had to be dragged kicking and screaming by Samora Machel.

      I left New York City in 2004 FOREVER. I was born in Flatbush Brooklyn and lived in Williamsburg houses then moved to Staten Island and then to Jamaica QUEENS and then I left the United States and bought a farm in Puerto Rico and on Fiji.

      Nyerere was jealous of Kenya that's why he wanted an East African federation.
      After Kenyatta refused to a union between the three countries, Nyerere became bitter and started calling Kenyans nyangau.
      Even today Tanzanians are jealous of Kenyans, they harass Kenyans openly (eg. Auctioning maasai cows)
      but when Kenyans harass Tanzanians (jaguar wanted Tanzanians kicked out of a market in Nairobi) CCM throws tantrums.

    Sadly new Africa isn’t as radicalized as he expected. The unrest is now caused by her own children. We should not archive speeches like these rather put them more on display to instill the spirit of nationalism then maybe just maybe we might change. It hurts to see that we have successfully belittled to ourselves and these great giants must be rolling restlessly in their graves

    I clearly remember when he came to visit a city where i used to leave in the north of Tanzania 1978 I was 9 years old at the time coming from school. I remember he stood on his Land Rover with his short stick under his left arm giving speech. Time flies very fast...

    Former President Julius Nyerere is historically remembered for his significant role he played in ousting one of Africa's tyrannical leader Idi Amin from power. A movement that gave birth to democracy in Uganda. And finally for adhering to the norm of democracy by relinquishing power when his constitutional tenure in office was over.

    This was a time when African leaders were visionary of a stable country ,sub-region and continent. Currently ,the same style of colonial divide and rule is used by the current crop of leaders. I lived in Tanzania for a long time in the early 2000s.Nyerere left a positive legacy and conduct among Tanzanians.
