I like the term "his human" rather than "his owner" because it seems so wrong to think of owning our wonderful, caring pets. They're family rathet than chattel.
Owning an animal doesn't mean they are like cattle, humans are more intense species, so even the word discipline is thought of in a very emotional, strong, aggressive way. Humans natural think things worse. It's what happens when your run off emotions all the time, but it's normal. So I feel it's mainly the thought process of the person. I just know people to calm them family or their babies when they over baby their pets. But I do agree they are not like cattle. Mainly cause they are dogs but I don't think of a dog as just a pet, even though I am the owner of the animal, it is still part of my family.

However, they are still around...just very rare. They are difficult to find, but not impossible. I live in the mountains...the clinic that I go to for my dog takes care of 2 or 3 White Cockers! Dagwood, named after the Comic Strip 'Blondie & Dagwood, had deep Big Brown Eyes that you could literally get lost in🤗💕 Dagwood was so much fun with Loads of Personality. This breed really does make a wonderful family dog 🐶💕 My Mom would take him in for grooming once a month. We had him for just over 16 years. He was an Absolute Blessing. What I adore most about my Colonial Spaniel is its beautiful coat, and it even has fun hair on its head. In contrast, my English Cocker Spaniel lacks hair on its head, which is also what I appreciate most about it. In conclusion, I love both of them in their unique ways.

Awww. I had a springer spaniel. I loved having his feet, tail and ears left long. The groomer shaved his ears and tail and they never grew back like they had been before. 😭
9 months and this is his first haircut?? We used to show and breed Cockers; by the time they went to their new homes at 9-10 weeks, they had been bathed, blow-dried, and gotten at least one full grooming. They knew how to behave in a table and were not afraid of blowers or grinders. I realize this is not a show puppy, but just to make his life and yours easier, he should have been getting groomed every 6 weeks starting at around 3 months old, or whenever he finished his shots.
Melissa can you tell me where to purchase that leash connector on your stand neck mid way up to the puppy's collar? Many of the videos I've been watching other than yours, the groomers seem to have there's wrapped a bunch of times..yours looks sturdy and slidable up or down depending on height of dog. I'm just learning grooming via TH-cam and my portable table arrived yesterday🥳 I love your set up and watching you do your magic!!
You should have been grooming him all along so he's not so fidgety at the groomers. I got my oup at 3m and worked with her weekly so she tolerates having her face shaved, toes clipped and shaved and private area done. I brush her daily. Bath every 2weeks. So she is used to it. She gets treats too so she behaves.
The dog is not sk much as wanting to be friends as, very, veeeeeery nervous, and really anxious, and with the over excitement, it causes this behaviour. Which tbh is normal when they don't have a strong proper pack to live in and humans use human instinct like normal, which van cause this actually lol but I am just happy the dog looks like it feels better after the groom lol nice and fresh, that's what I loved to see when I was a groomer. They happiness from them feeling clean and fresh 😊 And some dogs prefer it too lol
What do you do when they’re scared of the clippers? My dog is freaked by that sound, vacuum, blender, and even when I just make the sound with my mouth lol

Gorgeous pup and handled beautifully for his first groom, but I have always been told to never clip a cocker, only to use a stripping knife to card the ciat, as clipping changes the coat and their ability to stay cool in summer and warm in winter. No offence meant atall ! coat and
No offense taken. Yeah, carding is recommended. Unfortunately we weren’t allowed to do that at PetSmart and Petco. So, if they want their dog carded they have to find someone outside of a corporate store. A lot of people who have cockers that card them know how to do it themselves.

Yea. 9 months is late to start getting professionally groomed. More for the mental well being of the dog. Starting early is better.
