  • Hope Town is the end of the Abacos for us, but why are we sailing NORTH?

The holidays are approaching fast (yes, I know this video is a month behind real life) and we have family flying into Freeport on Grand Bahama Island. It's not exactly a desirable location to stay for a cruiser, so we're trying to make the best of our sailing adventure north.
Our route has us backtracking up the Sea of Abaco and we're focused on finding new anchorages in the Out Islands. An underwater national park, some lobster hunting, deep sea fishing and of course sailing. Hope you enjoy.

Thank you for tossing back the juvenile Skip Jack. No one on the ship is starving and you're giving that little one a chance to grow into breeding size.

If it helps. flying the shoot. Think of it like driveing a team of horses. It's all about the Sheet and Guy. Helm centered. Yup.. Setting a wisker pole helps in lite wind. Good Drill too.

We don't have a whisker pole on the cat, it's just a free flying asymmetrical spinnaker

Gone with the Wynns, didn't you have a whisker pole in Florida? I remember you taking it off and wondering if it would limit your ability to go wing on wing downwind.

Skipjack have a bit stronger flavor than yellowtail, yellowfin, or blue, but are great eaten as sashimi, pan seared, or even steamed if you like traditional tuna fish sandwiches. Traditional canned "light" tuna is usually Skipjack. Be careful not to overcook as the smaller ones like you caught have less fat content. They have less mercury than most of the bigger tuna, and certainly less than the dorados/mahi-mahi that I see other cruisers catching. Enjoy the next one!

  • @DJSYTPage

Skip jack is gnarly!!! Some people eat it... but not like a black fin, yellow fin, or blue fin.. makes great cut bait for snapper and grouper fishing.

At the start of the video you have way to many wraps on your winch for the spin sheet. Unless you are in hevay wind, It is better to have less wraps on the winch to make it easier to ease and trim. It also takes some of the load off of the winches too. We love you videos! Keep em coming :)

Nice video, when flying a spinnaker always carry a knife to cut lines to the sail if you get a sustained wind from anywhere but from the stern. the sail flying free is better than having whisker poles flying around the deck.

    • @gonewiththewynns
      @gonewiththewynns  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

fortuneately we don't have a whisker pole as the spinnaker is free flying...but that said the lines could easily do some damage in a blow.

Try using weights and a weight belt to counteract the buoyancy of your wet suit when snorkeling. You'll def be able to stay down longer since your not fighting the buoyancy. Maybe 4 - 5 lbs depending how thick your wetsuits are.

Really enjoying your videos since you started looking for a boat. However, I really worry about your safety on the boat when you don't wear a pfd while underway, especially when you are out in the open water , fishing off the end of the boat and you are not attached to the boat. It wouldn't take much for a good size fish to jerk you in the water. Stay safe and wear your pfd and clip yourself to the boat when fishing. Keep up the good work, you guys are fun to watch.

You have the best rv and boat videos in my view: have always been impressed by your narrative, camera shots in general, and editing: very good flow and pace. Too many youtube videos are just tedious to watch - prolonged headshot of someone going on and on in dreary monologues with no cutaways etc. So I was a bit surprised you let in those drone shots at the end: many typical video mistakes - which you have not let in typically. Guess it's to encourage the noobs? :D. You had stunning drone shots before. Anyway looking forward to your next episode.

Gees Nikki, sounds like you riding a wild horse...
And that was a Tuna... If your not sure, put it in a bucket of water and look it up... You can always throw it back after verification...

You guys seem to be able to hold a decent angle into the wind on that cat. Looked like about 35 degrees or so.

I'm sure she's still mad at you for tossing that tuna. Hopefully you know by now how good it would of taste. There's always more fish in the sea! Haha

For the wind noise in tha camera mic, you can use half of a ping pong ball over the mic. It will considerably reduce the wind noise without affecting the other sounds.
