You are my savior! Your videos allowed me and my son to know exactly what to expect when we replaced the pump in his '92 YJ! Thank you for your excellent videos! You've gained 2 followers!
Hey man. I just pulled this off with my 93 YJ and I want to thank you for the insight. I did it alone in the dirt but referencing your videos really helped and the jeep runs better now than it did 15 years ago. When I removed the sending unit the gasket was garbage and I’m thinking this didn’t help at all. Putting the tank back in wasn’t easy but using your video site helped. Thank you.
Thanks for the video. It definitely helped. As some others have said, if you have to replace the fuel pump and you don’t know when the last time these hoses were replaced, I would suggest replacing while you have the tank down. I recently replaced the pump on a 1994 YJ that hasn’t ran in close to 10 years. I got it all back together, the tank back in and it cranked and seemed to be running well after a few mins. I was so glad to hear it run again after a decade of sitting there. Then, I noticed it was leaking fuel from somewhere. Turned out to be the supply line. So, I had to drop the tank again last night. I got the hoses off and will be replacing both in the next day or so. I also went ahead and cut an access hole last night, so hopefully I don’t have to drop the tank again. It’s not too bad especially if you have a helper. I’m just glad I got the thing running again. But, I wished I would have saw this video prior before I dropped it the first time. Also, both the supply hose and return lines I pulled off of the tank say they are 5/16. I’ve read several different opinions on the hose sizes such as 3/8. But, both were 5/16 on mine. Not sure if they were the original hoses or not. I think the 3/8 will work, but I’m glad to get a definite confirmation.
The best way I've found to put a tank back in is to use two wide belt racket straps. Hook up to rear axle, go under the tank, and hook racket to the roll bar in the middle of the roof line. Grab both rachets and start cranking. Where this versus a jack is when you have to apply so real force (and maybe a few swift kicks) to the tank to get it back into place.
One of the common issues with the yjs, is the lines going soft and the poly tanks getting cracks and soft. A friend of mine who worked for the refineries out here, told me the ethanol has permeated the entire fuel supply and the older vehicles weren’t equipped for the ethanol and it is the main cause of fuel line and tank failures.
Wouldn't it have been a wonderful idea by Jeep and Chrysler to actually have put a little door a place in the floor right above the gas tank where you could access the fuel pump that sits inside of a gas tank. The problem being is engineers don't learn how to work on things they just learn it in a book and put it together that way. Thanks for the tips and always there's a better mouse trap through the floor why couldn't the engineers have thought of that. Thanks again great video.
Easiest way to drain fuel tank is to remove the fuel line at fuel rail, put a hose over the line, remove fuel pump relay and make a little wire jumper from the positive to negative where the relay plugs into. Pump will run until tank is empty then remove the jumper wire.
Nicely executed, !! I have to do that to my 96 Jeep XJ . I have learned a lot about wrenching from you thanks!!! Can’t wait until you tear down your Daughters Xj and see what you do to it !!!
I have the exact same issue going on with my '95 that just started after my last fill up. Unfortunately my skid plate is rusted away so I'll have that added expense but thanks for the detailed video for the repair.
Totally off topic but do you happen to know what size bolt it is for you hard top windows the top I have looks exactly the same I lost the hardware to bolt the windows on thank so much love the videos!
Hope that never happens to my ol' XJ. Rear bumper removal, gas tanks armor and brackets.. aka nightmare. Your are into it that far, go ahead and replace all rubber parts pump and float. Remember how old they are.
Just spent changing the same fuel lines on my 94 yj. The leak was in the exact same location. Weird! My mistake was that I replaced the fuel pump 6 months before and it neve crossed my mind to replace the lines. Wish I had. This is not a fun job!
6:38 I had the same issue and it was very frustrating especially with big custome exhaust that I regret to have it 😂 Eventually I had to redesign the skid plate
Greetings! I have the same problem probably. It seems there are drops of gas under the driver seat. You think it’s dangerous to drive it to the mechanic? Or should I have it towed?
Question: Do you think I could get to and replace my 5/16 fuel hoses by taking the wheel off rather than dropping the tank? 1995 YJ 4 cyl with rotted and cracked intake hose Thanks for the videos!
hey there, i've recently bought a used 1989 YJ Wrangler 2.5 and need to install a missing EVAP hose to have smog check. do you any info pics or videos to help in getting it done?
Good job Dale, except I think you lost a shoe LOl . Where was you helper at ? Looking forward to your live stream on Wednesday and of course Fridays video . Take care and be safe my friend .
Hey question do you have power steering because I have the same jeep but no power steering and so can provide me some pictures so that I can find power steering system to and to my jeep mainly location of the power steering pump bracket with pictures
I've dropped the tank and am replacing the entire fuel pump and gasket. Do I need to use thread seal glue for the bolts on the gasket? Also, do you know if I need to torque the bolts? Thank you :)
Just dropped my tank to replace pump. I'm trying to figure out the small vent hose you pulled off. My short one popped off on its own too or was already off. My question is. The one that got pulled off. Mine comes to a. T .... with one side open. Is it supposed to be open or an i missing a cap. Id like to get it right before replacing tank. My concern is water if i was to go that deep. Any help would be appreciated.
If you’re referring to the vent hose next to the fill inlet, that shouldn’t be open. Should go to gas bezel along with tank fill hose. The metal bezel on the gas cap should have 2 spots. 1 for fill line and other for vent. If that’s not clear, try and catch me live 7:30pm pacific tonight. I have a live stream scheduled. We can chat there
@@JeepSolid thank you for the response. However im not referring to the fuel bezel. Im referring to the really small lines that are the two sides of the tank. Or top two corners i guess. . The one you removed from top right. Vs the one that pulled out on its own top left. On mine the one on the right just before going out of sight towards fuel filter are. Has a T in it. A small or should say short line branches off. Maybe like 2 or 3 inch long. Is left open. Should this be plugged?
Can anyone identify a 1/2" OD with check valve hose that runs to drivers side rear corner adjacent to the fuel filler hoses and tail light wiring. It seems to be leaking oil or other fluid not fuel.
That would be your lucky day of that piece of s*** ignited dealing with one of these myself Chrysler should be ashamed of themselves with these Jeeps all of them , they rust away so bab the Cherokees the Wranglers what garbage kind of mind-boggling Beast you can get one from the 50s Korean War m38a one where the frame is so solid nothing like this crap you're not even worth fixing there so rusted

Thank you for the kind words. Puts a smile on my face to know I helped someone.
I just a bottle jack and may have had a buddy with me lol

That sounds like a good method! I wrestled mine back in yesterday. Was a pain, but got it done.

Freakin awesome.... completely followed from tank drop to lines...not all heros wear capes!!!! TY
Great video, would you consider doing a video on heater core replacement on a TJ or YJ?

What if the fuel pump is broken
(My problem)
What’s if it’s 10 year old gas?
@@wfranco7745
Then buy a new gas tank the inside will be rusty and will plug the fuel filter constantly.

Good tips on how to keep those bolts from spinning, thanks.
Thanks for sharing! I’ll be doing the same to my ‘95 Wrangler (green) soon.
good video thanks for sharing. i ended up cutting a hole in the floor to access mine.
Nice man, thanks this helps for job I'm fixing to do on 93 awesome 👍
You are officially more knowledgeable than my mechanic!
It’s easy to be a specialist on one type of car lol
My 92 YJ Sahara has had chronic fuel line leak issues at/ near the filter down near the left wheel😑
Totally off topic but do you happen to know what size bolt it is for you hard top windows the top I have looks exactly the same I lost the hardware to bolt the windows on thank so much love the videos!

How did you get the nuts closest to the rear bumper to come off without the bolts spinning?
Hey question I just put a hardtop on my 94 yj can you tell where is the rear wiper switch located
6:38
I had the same issue and it was very frustrating especially with big custome exhaust that I regret to have it 😂
Eventually I had to redesign the skid plate
What can I do if the bolts are rusted and spinning freely? Some have even broken off trying to remove them?
Greetings! I have the same problem probably. It seems there are drops of gas under the driver seat. You think it’s dangerous to drive it to the mechanic? Or should I have it towed?
I like that two-piece hardtop who made that and do you know if it's still available
Question: Do you think I could get to and replace my 5/16 fuel hoses by taking the wheel off rather than dropping the tank?
1995 YJ 4 cyl with rotted and cracked intake hose
Thanks for the videos!
Nope. The tank is up between the frame. The frame blocks the access. Taking the tire off accomplishes nothing.
hey there, i've recently bought a used 1989 YJ Wrangler 2.5 and need to install a missing EVAP hose to have smog check. do you any info pics or videos to help in getting it done?
Hello, just bought a Jeep and the truck stalled and now cranks but pops and won’t get any power?
Good job Dale, except I think you lost a shoe LOl . Where was you helper at ? Looking forward to your live stream on Wednesday and of course Fridays video . Take care and be safe my friend .

The owner's manual doesn't mention using thread sealer, but the strap nuts should be 65in pounds and the mounting nuts 12ft pounds
Hey Dale where do the Fuel tank vent hoses go?
They go to a charcoal canister in the engine compartment
Ok so I do not have that canister anymore. Should I put a one way valve on it?
My Jeep is doing the same exact thing in the same spot
Just dropped my tank to replace pump. I'm trying to figure out the small vent hose you pulled off. My short one popped off on its own too or was already off. My question is. Ah! Ok. I believe those 2 lines went to a charcoal evap canister. Shouldn’t be just open to air. Mine may have been T’ed together?
Canister is part of emissions in engine compartment
Are the fuel supply and return hoses the same diameter?
i cannot a tube to feed down my filler tube to drain or test the fuel.....
Where did you get those fender flares
What year is this? I have a 91 and I need a tank skid plate.
What size is the bolts that hold the fuel pump to the tank?
do you know where i could find a new fuel inlet for my 94' YJ it leaks when using a gas pump without a funnel. I cant seem to find that part anywhere
Never mind i saw it sitting on the bumper in our video and found it using that
Can anyone identify a 1/2" OD with check valve hose that runs to drivers side rear corner adjacent to the fuel filler hoses and tail light wiring. It seems to be leaking oil or other fluid not fuel.
@@Future-Preps35 many thanks. I was thinking same.
