    the two quests you mentioned are in a way interconnected, if you choose to bring the Professor's pets back, she'll mention a pet that is similar to the beast your being sacrificed to. If you immediately escape and talk to the Professor, she'll give you an rat poison to help fight the boss which causes all but one part of the boss to take damage every turn. With that, you attack the part of the boss that doesn't take damage to beat it.

    long time SaGa fan here, main thing with these kinda games is to remember not to approach it in the same way someone would approach a traditional jrpg, SaGa games will often teach you 4 things if youre going to set yourself to enjoy them,
    1- Take notes of every important thing you come across, this game somehow manages to be played like a old school rpg even in the advent of the internet, because youre pretty much blind all the way through and thats great and it feels so rewarding when you achieve anything...
    2 - develop a keen eye to judge the HP of a Boss based on their damage input, enemies escalate with you, but bosses dont, so you will often stumble into places that seem to be in line with you but youre actually underleveled, so at some point you have to learn to predict how tough a boss will be based on how hard it swiped the floor with you the first time you fought it, and if its worth figthing it.
    3- save save save, as you said you can save anywhere so is the ultimate tool to play the game, i highly recommend always saving in 3 separate slots (in the last safe town before taking a quest, in the moment to enter the dungeon of said quest, and then everytime you enter a new room in the place of said quest) that way you can go back to the safe spot before taking the quest anytime if its way too tough.
    4 - SaGa games have more mechanics than meets the eye, most of the time you can't just bruteforce your way through bosses because the only stats that grow with you on RS3 are hp, sp and mp, you also have weapon masteries but they grow too slowly to considerate them a defining factor of a grinding session, eventually you learn how beneficial formations and magic spells are, as well equipment with elemental resistances and specific resistance skills, or if youre gonna focus a character to be more resistant to magic than physical attacks which helps you know where in a formation you are gonna place them.
    and p much that, happy SaGa gaming, i wished for so many years for RS2 and 3 to be localized this really feel unreal, and its quite awesome

  • @Naglfar94
    @Naglfar94 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    It brings a smile to my face when I see people enjoying and loving games from the SaGa series. also I am sure you have already noticed and done it already but there is no need to restart the game each time someone loses a life point only really an issue when someone is low on them. but you can just visit an Inn and it will refill everything lifepoints included so not too much an issue there. and I believe there are a couple of items you can get that also refill lifepoints. And to get rid of certain characters that just won`t seme to leave the party just let them die. change the team formation set them in front let enemy kill them lose all life points. I had to do that before with a guy named Herman as I didn`t want him in the party but he kinda stays with you at a point refusing to leave the party just kill them. Some of these dead characters come back after a bit such as Herman who appeared again after he had died a bit later. don`t know if all of them come back but I know he is one who does. Enjoy this amazing game!

      Thank you that’s super useful. I’m actually ok with my party for now. I’ve levelled them up so much that I don’t want to start over with new characters. I’ll try and figure out their quests and beat the arch fiend (hopefully!) and then try and grab new characters. Thanks for the advice

    • @Naglfar94
      @Naglfar94 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@2old4gaming No problem this game is amazing! also depending on what characters you get each character specializes in a different weapon type and are good at sparking new techniques for that weapon type so keep that in mind if you want new attacks espcially the high tier ones. like for example Ellen one of the protagonists is great at learning new axe techniques and fists which is why I love using her she can dish a tons of damage.
      also I would recommend a few really useful characters to your final team 2 of them you should pick up Fairy she is great and the best bow and spear user the fairy event you will have to look up how to trigger tho it has something to do with your HP value and something else but stick around and grab her she is great and fast! another character you can and should recruit is Leonid yeah remmeber that vampire? since you mentioned his place in your video well you can get that vampire to join you!! and he is among the very best of them all for a few reasons.
      he comes eqipped with the best armor in the entire game and he doesn`t die he has 0 lifepoints I mean on paper he can die in battle and he will be taken out for the rest of it but he`ll never truly die. also keep in mind you can`t heal him he has to use blood suck on an ally but he shouldnt need to heal too much he is awesome! since you are Julian you can later go back during a certain quest and get that vampire to join you! but you absoultely cannot get him if you are Monica. when I first played this game I started as Monica she can`t get him out of the main protagonists. so certain characters are able to get others.
      the vampire is really good with Big sword attacks so he is a great choice for using the ice sword you get later in the game. so just some personal advice there a bit! heh I love Romancing SaGa and seeing this is actually making me wanna go back and play this game as a different protagonist this time.

    • @2old4gaming
      @2old4gaming  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man. I was just trying to beat Leonid’s castle but I’m still too under levelled. I got pretty far then got totally stuck at this skeleton riding a creature. I’ll go do more quests then come back.
      That’s also good to know about learning skills with signature weapons. I’ve probably made a mistake here because I gave my party the strongest weapons I had and so they are slowly levelling on them rather than sticking to the primary type. I might need to spend time and get them to level up on different weapons.
      I found the fairy village but nobody offered to join my party. I’m sure I’ll discover it in time.

    • @Naglfar94
      @Naglfar94 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@2old4gaming Oh man don`t remind me of that skeleton thing he is hard! I have to take a look at my old Romancing SaGa 3 I think I had atleast around 500 HP or so for everyone and fought him. hmm that is where variety comes in for your characters tho be sure to level up in different weapon types skeleton type enemies are weak to fist attacks it`ll do more damage and vice versa. as for the fairy village good you are on the right path you don`t get the fairy from the village though some kind of freak show thing that appears in one of the towns at random once you reach a certain point in HP so just keep an eye out it may take some tries of going back and forth. but so far it sounds like you are doing good! keep it up. this game is absolutely amazing but boy will it destroy ya if you aren`t ready like you said good ol SaGa difficulty.
      oh yeah if you don`t feel like investing time into Ellen for fist techniques you can always wait and recruit Boston he is a lobster on some lobster island that joins and he specializes in fists and his learning rate for fist techniques is high. I only know a few characters and what they specialize in though there is a lot heh you`ll have to look it up but I know a few are good at certain things than others. Anyway glad you are enjoying Romancing SaGa!

      Skeleton YUMI in snes version is too brutal to fight. 700HP will do fine for sure but he's not the strongest one though.

    Hands down one of the best JRPG I have played. The focus of the game is the quests and the roster of characters you can recruit. Music is top notch for a SNES game too.
    Also, try exploring around Formations and proper placement of characters. Don't approach an enemy running so that you don't break your formation and benefit from it like Attack, Speed, etc. up.

      @@2old4gaming Formations and equipment matter so much in this game. It's refreshing that the answer to beating a hard boss isn't just 'go grind more' but instead can be to think hard and pay attention to what they do.
      If they spam physical attacks, use a formation that makes them target a character with good defenses and even a counter attack
      If they use area effect spells, use a formation that spreads your team out.
      Some bosses will cast spells that hit your whole party for elemental damage, but most of these bosses come after a dungeon rife with loot that protects from those elements, even if it provides lower defensive stats otherwise.

    I'm glad you are enjoying this game.
    I already finished it twice on an SNES emulator and from my experience:
    1- I strongly recomend you to only pick Herman (the guy with white hairs) when you want to fight Forneuse (the Water abyss lord), otherwise you might endup stuck with him and it's crappy stats.
    2- If you stumble upon healing staffs, only keep them for the FinalBoss because this one is going to wreck you like no other JRPG FinalBoss.

    Excited to see this pop up in my recommendations. Love the insights about choice and how excited that gets you--it feels like many RPG fans would be frustrated they 'missed out' because a decision they made locked them out of content. The SaGa series really doesn't hold its players' hands and has serious consequences for decisions! I'm interested to see what your thoughts are on the game when you finish it, too.
    I wish there was more variety between each character's story, though some characters such as Mikhail, Sarah, and Khalid get quite unique setups. I really do prefer the freeform 'open world' scenario because there's something exciting about choosing which order to do main quests in or even going someplace very dangerous early on in order to get good equipment or even chance some hard encounters for sparking new powerful moves. This sort of game really demands that you interact with the game world to figure out what is available to you, which drives a lot of talking to NPCs and feeling invested in the larger narrative--something that most RPGs don't incentivize nearly as much. I really love it.
    Also, for a surprise, try putting your main character in the back/reserve spot of your formation.

Like every time you finish a question you need to go back to every single place to maybe, hopefully, trigger something that pushes the story forward? And then after that you need to do it all over again? Exploring for fun is one thing, and can be enjoyable. Running around until you find the next trigger seems stressful. • @2old4gaming
      @2old4gaming  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Grinding helps to an extent. Monsters become stronger as you get stronger but unlocking new skills and buying stronger weapons makes a big difference later in the game. Also you will find new party members later that will be much stronger with super tough abilities. The game is always tough but you can manage it. Sometimes it may be an indication that you’ve walked into a dungeon you’re not ready for if you can’t beat enemies.
      Good luck!

    I purchased Romancing SaGa 2 on switch near release day (it snuck up on me), and will definitely be doing the same with RS3 -- although its regrettable that there's no physical release. I haven't played through much of RS2 due to being busy with life and whatnot, but I remember having a difficult time of it when I did sit down and play it. This isn't at all a turn-off, but does anyone have a break down of the game mechanics, that doesn't come at the expense of spoilers? I'm willing to accept personal explanations; or ones provided by a preferred outside source -- altho I'd prefer a personal choice, as I want something very particular, in terms of having a mechanics explanation, that still remains vague and allows me to discover the game; I simply want a hand nudging me in the dark. lol, I know its a very particular and obnoxious request, but I'd appreciate it if anyone is willing to accept this challenge!

    Look back use to play in japanese, we missed alot of rare items,weapons and ammors. I still playing the snes rom though RS3. Now playing it with Iphone and it's worth it. I'm on the last stage now with all parties over 850HP. Just cleared the PHANTOM MAZE new quest and you'll fuking love it. TRUST ME THIS!
    No spoiler here. :DDD
    There's some differents in the game. All waza quite easy to learn, leveling up weapons is just ok, MP is alot harder here to level up and hardcore monster attacking is abit weaker then snes version. And I realize monster sometimes will run away from you! LOL xD

    Yeah I picked it up! But please stop running towards enemies, it breaks your formation and they are an important part of the team. As for LP, it's not Romancing SaGa 2, just sleep at an inn and voila fully healed /o/. I've waited for so long to see it released and I'm having a blast. I'm happy that the general public is too. Ouch, I guess this game won’t be for me, although I liked FF Legend 3, and REALLY liked Legend 2 and Romancing Saga 2. The one thing I can’t stand in games in the requirement to save scum… It basically ruined Fire Emblem for me starting at about Awakening, when character death became optional, and they began balancing the game around casual mode where characters revive after battle instead of balancing it around playing the game strategically and with the threat of death.

    I'm six hours in and I quit tonight with a frown. I started with Lillian and somehow lost Monika during the ship part. After 4 hours I haven't found her or any reliable way to cure now that she's gone. Having one item per person is not useful and expensive in the long run.
    Completely lost on the story and the internet hasn't any guides I could find from this decade. Good grief!
    Going to restart and do my best to keep Monika. I think her healing may be too invaluable to do without. I dunno.
    Game is difficult and confusing but I'd like to make it to a part where it feels like I've progressed the story somehow.

    • @2old4gaming
      @2old4gaming  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally understand. It is really confusing at times but I don’t think you need to restart as things become clearer over time. Sometimes new quests won’t open until later so even if Monika is gone for now you may find her later.
      I am just guessing though because my experience has been totally different and like you said there aren’t guides out there for every scenario

    • @GustavoSilva-ji2xr
      @GustavoSilva-ji2xr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’ve lost monika on the ship because you’ve refused to run away with her. When she disappears on this event she is gone forever.

    • @varsoonhks3211
      @varsoonhks3211 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do keep at it!
      Eventually, you can find mage tutors in various towns that you can learn magic from, so anyone can learn to heal. Martial Arts also gets a self-healing technique and over the course of the game you will also find several Staff of Vitality wands that can heal your characters.
      As for Monika, make different decisions and it may turn out differently. Save before making those decisions in the prologue.
      It helps to talk to everyone in towns and, if that fails, to pay attention to your adventure journal--you can access it from the menu screen. The game rewards exploration and interaction. Pay attention and you'll find your way.

      Part of the reward of SaGa games is figuring things out for yourself and stumbling around in the dark until you get that moment in which you know what to do. You wrest the adventure from the game so it is best to avoid walk throughs as much as you can. As he said, he crafted his own saga through completing and failing quests.
