      No particular favourite, U turns, Figure 8, hardest thing is finding a good quiet location.
      I sneak back to my skills course lot occasionally and follow the marks when no one is looking. It’s a good spot but a ways away.

    Never took these videos seriously till my daughter got a motorcycle. I use your videos to help her learn to ride safe. I don't want her on a bike but she is a grown woman and the least I can do for her show her how to do it right. Motorcycle safety becomes job #1 when someone you truly care about goes on 2 wheels. 😔. Thanks for guidance Dan.

      Lol. I been riding for 23 years. Earlier this week I bought a new bike, and out of the blue my wife said she would like one too. She has been riding pillion for 15 years and always said she was happy to be chauffeured. So now I’m binge watching DanDan to remind myself all the stuff I do so instinctively I don’t know I’m doing or how/why to explain.

    Thank you, from Dan to another! This figure eight skill was what tripped me up in my motorcycle safety class, even though I was able to do it perfectly without even thinking about it the first time! Every time after, I thought about it too much and haven't been very succesful. Although I did pas my class, get my license, and am excited to get some parking lot practice in once its safe enough to be out and about here in NYC.

    Here in the NorthEast, coming out of a winter (when I had a ride) I would practice these skills to loosen up for the new riding season and regularly do it throughout the season. Most of my experience was off road so doing a lot of slow moving object avoidance was pretty messy in the early spring.

    i've been riding for 8+ years, i went to a local school as i was thinking to become a teacher.. I totally forgot and embarrassed myself there, i did not realise my confidence had a massive dip (3 accidents one almost killing me sadly) however this morning i woke up like right what is i am forgetting to do. you have just helped me realise where it is i have gone wrong. i need to work on me again and not worry about dropping the bike. i think this is where my mental state is. I did not scoot that booty as you say, and it was horrible. i might get my wife to record how i did it before i try doing this method to show how much confidence i lost. many thanks Dan.

Thank you!

    Thanks for these videos Dan, they're great!
    I'm doing pretty well with U-Turns and tight turns; gonna have to make sure I do figure 8's as well :D
    Still find it a bit difficult to go full lock - mainly because it's hard to not effect the throttle (either end up giving it a bit too much or dropping into too little depending on if it's a left or right hand turn); just gotta keep practicing!

    • @ProriderCentralTexasYouTube
      @ProriderCentralTexasYouTube 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This usually happens because as we turn the handlebars to the left our wrist tend to roll down which causes us the rev the throttle and when we turn to the right the wrist tends to roll up which causes to little throttle. To correct this try to stiffen your wrist a little to prevent the throttle movement. I hope this helps

    • @danh8332
      @danh8332 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dan illustrated in one of his videos how in right turns he changes his grip on the throttle so his hand/wrist/forearm remain more in line, giving better throttle control. Hard to explain in words....I tried it though since I had the same issue on right turns, and it was effective but takes some getting used to.

    I did the test on a CRF450L and the instructor asked how tight I could do them. I did a couple full locked steering figure eights. For the emergency breaking I worked up to doing stoppies. I passed the first time but the instructor was cool but was kinda curious how a street legal dirt bike could perform. The cone test was a literal joke on the bike. I weaved through them at about 35mph. I've also taken the msf course on a friends honda shadow to see how I could do on a cruise and other than my clutch hand getting more tired it was not hard at all.

  • @DivergentDroid
    @DivergentDroid 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    A figure eight is all that's required to pass the skills test in Louisiana. The instructor will tell you to do 5 or so figure eights without feet touching the ground and Poof, you are Done and passed the test. They don't make you do any of that other stuff other states do. Hence those 3 videos you mentioned, 90 from a stop, U Turn and Figure Eights are a MUST for Louisiana riders taking the test to get their MC endorsement.

    the main problem with this, as a motorcycle learner, that i dont have a bike... i should basicly buy a bike without a drivers license and practice this, so it will go well on the exams...

    You can also check out Walmart for those agility cones as a substitute. I bought a pack of 25 for $10.

    Now come in Croatia and do the Figure 8, as it is the part of the test for A license.
    I swear to a God that 8 is so small.
    Good thing I had MT-07.

  • @redwing2001

    Dan, this is not "basically trailbraking". Trailbraking is an "at speed" curve strategy where you stay on the brakes deep into the curve. This is dragging the rear brake for stability and control. Also trailbraking is usually done with front brake not rear. Also, is it just the shot angle or are you shifting your butt but leaning torso in? Body shift, including torso, should be leaning out on slow, tight u-turns.

    • @DanDanTheFireman
      @DanDanTheFireman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the "slow speed version." That is why it is "basically." Maybe it could have been said better, but the basic principles apply.

    • @redwing2001
      @redwing2001 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanDanTheFireman respectfully disagree. dragging rear brake plus friction zone and upper body shift is a slow speed maneuver for stability and very different than trailbraking (front brake) in a curve to manage traction.

    Hi, everyone. I´m about to ger my first bike, and I have an important question for all of you who are more experienced. In the country where I live, small displacements bikes are very rare. It´s either tiny mopeds or big bikes. But BMW has a wider range of options. So I could technically get an R310R, but it won´t be a keeper, and it has absolutely no reselling value. So... do you guys think a BMW RnineT Pure will be too much of a bike for a first bike? I really like that bike but I don´t want to die yet and I can´t also trust the sales guy for obvious reasons. The only other option is the ninja 400 but I don´t want a sports bike for commuting and it´s also an expensive bike where I live. I would really appreciate it if anyone could throw some light on my ignorance and fear.

      Gotta start somewhere. So do you have any specific questions? We also have a huge chatroom where you can ask any motorcycle questions and get some good answers: Discord.gg/DanDanTheFireman

      Definitely take the MSF course. Then decide between cruiser, sport ect... but don't forget to log in and watch DanDan's teaching videos. He's very good at teaching this stuff.

      Hey Ryan Fan
      I am pretty new to riding, and my advice is to definitely sign up for an MSF course. They don't teach everything but it will give you a great foundation to build on. I also check out the training vids I can find. Once you have your license and of course your bike. Time in the seat is important, practice as often as possible.
      As for the bike you choose, I was told many different things, but just find a bike your comfortable with. I am a believer the bike picks the rider. I have a 2018 fatboy (yep first bike). I am having a blast.
      Hope this helps some.

      One more plug for MSF,
      take it before you get a bike, apart from the training it gives you the opportunity to ride different bikes, see what kind you like.

      @nicole m...keep the bike in 1st gear while balancing with you left foot. Keep the rear brake down then slowly let off clutch while working the throttle and releasing the back brake. You'll get it, we all have had this problem before.
