This brought back many memories for my husband and he was able to explain to me where you were, and what some of the things were and what he did for a living when we were first married. Many memories!
That is great to hear. Nothing makes me happier than being able to produce films that bring these wonderful places to generations in the future long after they are collapsed and caved in. It would be great to produce a film that is narrated by someone who actually worked there.
How lovely😊. I've connected with my dad over me being obsessed with these vids and him being an ex miner(coal-UK-Kent-Snowdown Colliery). All very brave souls. X
I swear Frank, your like the Steve Erwin of holes in the ground. And i'll be right here to watch every adventure. Thank you for the hours of dedication and the effort you put into filming and editing and keeping out the creepy pasta BS that my mind would make up if i were down there too.
We lived in Remac , moved there in 1948. My dad was the cook and for the first while we lived in a tar paper shack down on the river. Moved up to the mai townsite after the the first bunch of houses were built. Left in probably 52 or 53 when it first started to play out. Years later dad cooked in a tent camp across the river for a diamond drilling crew working in the Redbird. I used to spend weekends with him and went underground with the crew one day. Very strange feeling for a fourteen year old.
I watch many mine investigation channels and yours is the best. You take risks and go into places others would turn away from. That makes you and your channel A+ in my opinion. Keep up the good work, and I hope TH-cam gets back to paying creators the amount of money that they should be getting.
I think it is a pretty good system, the more viewers you have the more you get paid so it is a good incentive. Mind you $150 a month doesn't go too far!
If I were you, I would bring a walking stick with me to the flooded mines so you can test for holes under cloudy water. Plus, it's a walking stick, all it can do is make things easier.
You're 💯% hardcore Frank! To go 1000" down a shaft that even search and rescue had said no too haha! I love it your vids are simply the best. Whenever I watch other mine exploration videos all I think is "Frank would have gone through that gap or down that ladder" when you said you were alone down there my jaw hit the floor!
@@timsawchuk8441 yeah, best to go with someone who knows it. I went through salmo, down pretty much right to the border then drove down the pend d'oreille road for maybe 15 minutes? Been a while now. Eventually we took a right and followed that road further up, and that takes you to the mine. Good luck! Keep asking, I bet a local would know better than I do
Awesome that you were able to get down into what is essentially a virgin mine in exploring terms... I doubt there are many people that will follow you down there in the future either given the logistics of descending 1,000 feet of rope! Thanks for taking us down there. I'm glad the drone got away with only minor damage!
What a great mine to explore. 1000 feet straight down will deter just about anyone, though I'm surprised you did it with a single rope. For something that deep, I think I'd want a surface team on main and belay. :)
I was there with some friends in 1989 It was fall time. We just went down to the first level. A bit spooky as in dangerous so we left safely wondering what was down there our friend Scotty had the actual map and he had a scale sized Empire State building to compare. I wish I could find that map from the mines Dept. Probably in Archives somewhere. We drove to the bottom by the river there was a large drift that was probably connected to the large main shaft. We supposed Great work by the way. I was riveted. Thank you.

Exploring Abandoned Mines In BC yes right somebody does need to sign you up your going to places that I would never go into keep up the good work be safe looking forward to more videos you're a blast to watch the Drone shots are a bonus
Never do that they would add to much drama too it like every reality show does unless you had full control of it which they never give up even tho your vids are by far the BEST
It is a lot of work to go that far in. There are many interesting places that are much easier to get to. At least the locals will quit talking about the underground bunker!
Interesting videos. Liked seeing the old equipment and the two drum slusher and scraper seen in this one. Recall running a three-drum slusher and small scraper in tiny square set gold stopes a few years back. Looking up some of those Shrinkage Stopes brings back memories too. Not much room to work in 27" width!

Man Frank, that is nuts that you got that far down and found all that old equipment like the old train switch and all those old ore carts. And on top of that you broke the bunker hoax. Like you said the day it shut down they just grabbed what they could and ran for the hills. Ether was you are awesome for doing that and just great video.
Oh man you are braver than 99% of people. I found an old graphite mine when i was a kid and explored 2-3 chambers and that was as far as i could go. You have a new fan here.
Another great video Frank. You are by far the most entertaining TH-cam explorer I have followed. I have wonderful memories of living on the mining property when I was a kid, mid sixties for five years. The guys worked so hard but rents were inexpensive with company housing. It was remote, living on top of the mountain! But beautiful - the PendOreille looked like a green snake, like Emerald Lake, in the Rockies. It was hard to move away... beautiful part of the country.
Well done Frank great explore, you seem to have all the right kit now too, a friend of mine whos a virgin mine explorer was so interested hes persuaded me to take him underground tomoz , i did not need a lot of persuading, cheers.
So many great relics down there. It would be a real project to get any of them up and out though. I have seen many rock bolts used in mines, and now I see them being used to try to repair the Lake Oroville Dam spillway about 30 miles from me.

The maps showed a portal, just above the river. We considered trying to dig it out, and draining the haulage level. There is also a level on the back side of Mineral king that we spent a day or two digging out, but we ran out of time. We had to build a zipline to get over the creek there.

Nice thing about mines in mountains is that most of them are self draining.
Excellent flight skills-Sir.
Cheers!
Very cool! I would have a heck of a time leaving that switch stand behind, but if there's no way to get it out I guess it stays!
Certainly no easy way, I never tried to lift it but I bet there is a lot of iron in that sucker! I will keep my eyes peeled for another one!
I'm a "where there's a will there's a way" kinda guy that has a hard time admitting defeat, which tends to get me into trouble. A 1000' spool of 1/8 wire rope (good for 400lbs) is less than $100 and I'll bet a lot will spool onto a 12k winch!
So what happens when you are winching yourself up and the cable gets hung up, then breaks?
The way I pictured it is have one guy up top running the winch, and a second guy on a rope line next to it to guide it up
The hoist was a complicated affair. They used a series of bells to communicate with the different levels of the mine.
I think that room was a rufuge station. The Miners would go there in case of emergency and close the door and seal around the door with mud.
Yes they call them Safety Stations. Maybe had oxygen, water and food in case of a fire , cave in or some other emergency.
Your very brave.
For flooded mines I kind of wonder about those submersable drones! Still possibly low oxygen water may preserve stuff. Only problem is those things tend to use a teather so you have to carry this roll of cable around amoung other things like the veiwing console and of course the money factor is always fun.

Fascinating video! It's too bad there was so much water. I know that it isn't worth the time and effort to remove a lot of the machinery but I find it unusual that the miners left hand tools hanging from the wall. Did I miss you saying what was mined here? Whatever it was warranted some good sized tunnels. One of the things that makes your mine exploration videos better than those who record just as a hobby is the amount of light you open up those drifts and crosscuts with. It was mostly a Lead and Zinc mine but there was also a little Gold and Silver

just imagine what it would take in money and effort to get a mine like this going again... great video, 1000 feet down is a heck of a lot!
