  • The last and most dangerous part of the Hull Mine at Castle Dome has some awesome treasures in it!
We've explored hundreds of abandoned mines in Canada the United States and Mexico, going places nobody else would dare to go! A New video is produced every Friday, check us out here:
    • Newest To Oldest Videos
We do this for two main reasons:
    1) Documenting the mines for future generations.
    2) Collecting artifacts for our museum.
Mines are being filled in, demolished, and/or collapsing at an alarming rate, so it is crucial to document them and save these artifacts while it is still possible.
Join us for our weekly adventures as we go deep underground into historic abandoned hard rock Gold, Silver and Copper mines. We relive the Prospecting, Gold Rush days, going back in history with every expedition. Visiting abandoned and forgotten places, climbing down mine shafts into dangerous mines, finding treasures, seeing antique heavy equipment such as ore carts, crushers, milling machines, ball mills, explosives and other mining equipment.
This isn't Minecraft but the real deal!
Come visit our Exploring Abandoned Mines Museum in Grand Forks, B.C. Canada. The museum is open to the public, free of charge, donations gratefully accepted. We have a huge assortment of mining artifacts accumulated from abandoned mines, donations, and other collections. We also have operating mining equipment on display.
Museum is located at 5615 Kenmore Rd Grand Forks BC Canada V0H-1H4. Best to phone first 250-444-0183. Come for a visit! www.google.com/maps/place/Exp...

They used hemp ropes and ladders. mine ladders are normally 20 feet long. sometimes they tied up to 5 of them together with guy lines to reach the top of large stopes when they were scaling. It was dangerous because if a large slab fell on one of the lines it would bring everything down. Many men have been killed scaling like this.

If you're the one digging and you are there for years and years you would know the place so well. There would also be much more infrastructure in place, those shafts would be so busy with stuff going up and down. Frank is there for one day and any infrastructure That's left is untrustworthy and he is in the ruins of a mine which is much different to a busy working mine. Yeah he has good lights and climbing gear but he's still in a hundred year old mine that is unmaintained. So its quite an achievement. There are other great mine explorers to that definitely go everywhere Frank does and specialise in remapping abandoned mines.

Amazing!! I love this. This is something I'd like to learn how to do. While a lot of people have fears of tight spaces, I find comfort in it. I've been into a handful of caves in Arkansas and Tennessee when I was younger, but nothing like these mines. That requires a skillset I do not have.

I was born in Castle Dome Az. In 1942. My father was a mining engineer and an explosives expert working for kennikot copper during the Second World War. He was the company drilling and blasting Forman. His name was Clarence (Bud) Mayer The four of us lived in company housing. The operation was an open pit. Of course the pit is still there but all the company houses were bull dozed when the mine closed. My father then went to work for Hercules Powder Co. the empty card board box this guy is holding was superseded by wood boxes. I have one. Explosives then consisted of finely ground walnut shells soaked in nitroglycerin. The nitro could give you a ripping headache if you stayed in close contact. Fuses and blasting caps were another very dangerous part of blasting. Hand lit fuses were unreliable if not handled with care. A three inch long copper clad blasting cap can kill you or at the least blow your fingers off. Now days blasting compound made of nitrogen Prills ( common fertilizer) soaked in diesel fuel and detonated by stick Dynamite can lift the side of a mountain thirty feet in the air and move it forward quite a distance. I have seen many open pit blasts starting in the early sixties. Never failed to be exciting.

Only second time Ive watched yours or any other mine explorer. You do a pretty good presentation. Informative also.
I used to casually explore some mines in northern nevada in the 1960s 70s ,and I have a tad of experience working at the 2000 ft level in shingle springs,NCal, limestone mine during a summer break in the 60s. It was much different and vastly less dangerous environment from these type abandoned in the west. My experience working was limited to a "chuck tender" and would sometimes help lay new track for our ore cars . All was a real experience. Made me appreciate college. No ear plugs(that I recall) to protect from machinery and the air supply noise for all air driven rock drills tools, equipment ,grizzleys /orecars. No masks for breathing in all the dynamite smoke and rock dust 8 hr a day. Three shifts a day drilled the the ore supply holes and dynamited the ore,to take out in ore cars for processing above ground about every 4 hrs 24/7 as I recall. Nice and cool and dark when it was 105 outside. I enjoyed the jbrief ob, at 19yo,but made me appreciate school.
