There are reports of significant downward changes to the SS Retreat experience with the elimination of dedicated butler service, and generally cutbacks to food quality and menus at MDR and Luminae. So, somone sailing today or in the future may get a lesser product than they had been marketed when booking occurred. With the elimination of the butler there is no single point of contact for amenities and inclusions, and less quality control. Many butler services are either not provided, or now done by the housekeeper who may service over a dozen rooms (one report for nonEdge class ship was 17 rooms), and not all would be Retreat rooms or specs for services. New bookings also no longer include OBC with Retreat (with no downward movement in price). The OBC had been a way to customize the experience without additional out of pocket expenses. For example, one already pays for food, but OBC could be used for the onboard upsell restaurants (quality varies, and seems inconsistent per reviews).
We have seen those reports and this video was actually filmed on the ship when the my announced the butler changes. However we have not been in the Retreat post the changes yet to understand all the impacts with on board service but the OBC was such an amazing perk to be eliminated.
We do have a few booked for next year and hopefully we will get a good deal in the near future to be able to update everyone on our experience pre and post the changes.

@@lindsayslivealittle We were on Apex when they announced the new Celebrity President. Crew was diplomatic, but not excited. Fingers crossed that quality holds or is restored by the time of future sailings. Prepandemic or, in our experience, return to sail to around May 2023 seems to have been peak time to experience the Retreat.
This is my biggest problem with cruising at the moment and the reason we'll be doing land based holidays for a while until the chaos of changes have calmed down. I can understand if they want to make cuts, but that has to be from future cruises or provide you with the choice of reasonable compensation or cancellation with full refund. The fact that they take your money to book a certain cruise and then change what's included in that cruise and just expecting you to swallow it, is VERY WRONG !!!
We were on Edge last month and were very disappointed with the cutbacks which we weren’t informed about, drinks in fridge are now an extra including cola. Two small bottles of water are provided. No appetisers delivered in the afternoon. No butler service though to be honest we didn’t bother our butler very much on previous cruises. One small bar of soap for the whole cruise, no lip salve or sanitiser as on our last cruise. Four butlers for 50 cabins I believe. Celebrity are getting too expensive now!!!

The extra charge for waters and sodas that is for the ones in your room correct? Not the ones in the lounge? Hope there are still ones in the lounge.

I'm jealous. We absolutely loved our Sky Suite on the Beyond in July. A nice little extra in The Retreat on the Beyond and I guess the upcoming Ascent is that you have two sun decks with two hot tubs separate from the pool. That's obviously more useful when cruising in the summer 🙂
We really want to go on the Beyond and the Ascent but for the cost it is just crazy right now. We will find a deal eventually!
@@lindsayslivealittle Didn't even realise there would be a price difference, but I guess it makes sense, the newer the ship the more they charge to make their investment back.
The bed facing the patio door is amazing! I could lay there all morning! Love how Jack thinks the bathroom is where the magic happens! hahaha. Looks cold out but looks like you're not dressed for too cold..?? Similar to Alaska?
We could have laid there all day. It is an amazing room. The weather was very similar to Alaska. Maybe a bit cooler but can get away with the same clothes.
You will have to give Celebrity a try.

This is the review I’ve been waiting for. We are booked on the Apex in the Retreat in 2024 and I was wondering what it’s like with all the recent changes
We haven’t been able to experience all the changes yet because they were announced while we were on this trip. Hope it doesn’t negatively effective us on a future trip.

That looks really nice. We have been pretty much exclusive to NCL when we are sailing but might have to give celebrity a try! It looks like the retreat is the equivalent of NCL's Haven? Do you prefer one over the other?
It is a very similar set up to the Haven. We would honestly say probably our favorite is the Retreat. It is more expensive than the Haven but includes the premium drinks package, unlimited WiFi and the food changes daily in the Retreat restaurant.
We really enjoy both though.
@@lindsayslivealittle Interesting. How would you rate Celebrity for "Freestyle" like on NCL? I'm sure you know what I mean, but just in case more relaxed dress code, not having set dining times, the ability to have private dining tables as apposed to group tables etc.
Equally important do they offer a shrimp toast breakfast? 🤣 One of my favorites on NCL
