Can we give some credit to what a great host Graham Norton is? He handled that question so well and completely let Keanu off the hook and did not put him in a tough spot and did so in a way that did not shame or embarrass the young woman. This was done masterfully.

Guys and girls, Keanu has never been married. He was in a relationship with Jennifer Syme when she fell pregnant. 8 months later, she gave birth to a stillborn baby. The grief on both of them ripped the relationship apart. Two years later, Jennifer died in a car crash.

If you're familiar with that clip from him on the Stephen Colbert show, when Stephen asks him "what happens when we die?" and gets fairly choked up and says, totally seriously "I know the people who love us...will miss us." While it's pure speculation on my part, I don't think it's that huge of a stretch to assume he's talking about Jennifer, and the baby. You can break up with someone, but still be in love with them.
Totally separate from that point, I recall it being revealed like last year or so, that he has been dating this other woman, in private, for many years. That they just kept it very quiet and to themselves. So its possible he's also uncomfortable about this clip moment, because he's dating someone, but doesn't want to mention it. So he's just caught in the middle, feeling awkward.
Or it could just be the fact that he doesn't like being viewed like a piece of meat, that random strangers can come up to and expect physical intimacy from, on any level.

Many years ago when I was working in Manhattan I ran into him in a deli on 6th Avenue and when I realized it was him I was just speechless and couldn't help staring at him... so young so handsome! As a biker for 45 years, he's exactly right. I've been down 5 times in the 45 years I've been riding and after the first 2 your pretty much used to it. The 3rd time i went down when a guy ran a stop sign and my ankle was broken, my buddy comes over and said " Tom are you ok man" , and i look down at my foot and say" i don't think that my foot should be crooked like that" . Keanu is a cool guy. I met him one time in New York. I was riding my Triumph Bonneville. I stopped to get a coffee and was sitting on my bike when he road up. He comes over and says nice bike, i said yours as well. He walks in and grabs a coffee i think, i didn't ask him what he was drinking. I light a cig and we bullshitted for about 15 minutes. It was as if we were old friends. The man is just an ordinary fellow with a great career. We elbow bumped and went our separate ways.
