Awesome conversation, interesting to hear TO thoughts. I may be joining the TO ranks this year so it’s helpful to get this pov.
I’m definitely happy the way they’re handling the transition. Letting people have their teams for another year then giving TOs the option to run tournaments as they see fit for their community is great. As long as they keep their side of the bargain and keep teams balanced, it should be a great edition!

I’m 100% behind a rotation of teams. We can’t have 60 teams and balance. Plus I want them to keep releasing new teams because it changes the meta and they are fun to paint. If you only buy one team, then you are looking at about $100 for 5 years of entertainment. That is a tremendous value.

Their pipline for team releases needs to be fixed before this is a viable long term strategy. Mandrake, Yaegir, Brood Bros, and Night lords were released in sold out boxs, and still are not available. And they will be not supported with any rules in 3 years. Someone may purchase the team a few months after release, take a couple months to model and paint. So they then get maybe 2 years to play it before the rules for them are completely dropped (not just declassified)?

Will compendium teams have rules in the Hivestorm edition? I have seen videos and posts claiming yes and no.

From what I have seen, all compendium teams have been removed from the Hive storm edition

@thebattleofpelennorfieldsp6081 It has been clearly stated in preview articles that Compendium teams will not be getting rules updates to KT24.
That said, a lot of teams that *are* being updated will make for a perfectly good set of rules to use with models you like as a 'counts-as' sort of team. I know I will be getting some games in with my Adepta Sororitas models using Space Marine or Chaos Space Marine rules.

Pretty sure you can get the same results with Dakotah whether he's in context or out of context.

I get that you can't balance 60 teams every 3 months but also changing the rules every 3 months is bonkers anyway. I haven't played my Gellerpox twice with the same rules.

    Classified tournaments are fine.
At the end of the day, it is grossly unrealistic to expect GW to continue to support teams for decades of time while ALSO expecting them to continuously churn out content. That’s not a reality we live in. It sucks I lost my Tyranids, but thems the breaks. I’m sure something will take their place.
At most you spend $100-$200 on a fleshed out team and then a day or two painting them up. That’s a meager investment for several years of entertainment. I can, and have, spend that in a night out drinking and eating.
I cannot, nor will I ever, understand the “REEEEE!” that is washing over the KT sphere because of this. If you can’t afford the hobby then don’t play it. The cost isn’t even comparable to other geek game spheres. The barrier for entry is about as low as it can get for a premium game with this kind of community & developer support.

I agree that it's unrealistic for GW to continuously balance every team, especially as new content rolls out. However, it's also important to acknowledge that not every player started Kill Team at the same time, so expecting people to drop teams they've just finished investing in, both financially and creatively, can feel frustrating.
Affording the hobby in terms of money is one aspect, but the time and effort players put into painting, building, and mastering a team is another, often overlooked, factor. Some players dedicate weeks or even months to a single project. For those with limited free time due to family, work, or other commitments, this investment is just as valuable as the financial one. Placing a dollar value on the time and effort people pour into their teams misses the point. It's not just about the money-it’s about the passion and personal investment that many players have in their work.
Finding a balance where everyone can continue to enjoy the game they love seems like the best approach for the community.

Almost no one I've ever met who doesn't profesionally paint on youtube churns out a kill team in a day or two.

I see basically zero reason to run Classified only unless there is a *very loud* demand from the community, or it's one of the 6-7 events per year that are required to be. If folks want to play classified, they can self-limit to those teams, and they can get in practice with and against them. If someone is/wants to be good enough to compete at a higher level in events that are classified only, they should be able to handle games against declassified teams.
If we want good, usable data to balance declassified teams, we need to have them present in events... and if we want them to receive good balance changes as needed, we should *all* want them in as many events as possible. It's more welcoming to the *vast* majority pf players who might take a shot at playing in any given event, *and* it produces a better game for everyone.
I see a lot of doomsaying about how "decalssified teams are dead" and "this is just Legends, so nobody will want to play with them" *cough*glasshalfdeadclickbait*cough*. Frankly, I call BS. It's only 'all classified, all the time' if people choose for it to be, and there's simply no good reason for that to be the case.
