About a year ago in a docu titled 'this is pop',there was a section 'The Stockholm syndrome' refering to Abba'scontribution and Sweden's influence in the pop music scene. This song was complimented by some who was on super succesful songwritter Max Martin's team concerning Frida's and Agnetha's complicated vocal arrangements and also in songwritting terms.Twas also pointed out as a great tutorial and influencial example that inspired the team while writting and recording future pop songs.
This was the first song that Abba gave an official permission to get sampled by hip hoppers THE FUGEES for their 1996 single 'Rumple in the jungle'.Other times they were rejecting such applications.Next and final time was For Madonna's 'Hung up' single in 2005 as she used Abba's 1979 hit single 'Gimme Gimme Gimme'.
how nice to see you again with an extraordinary song by ABBA, which has many peculiarities: 1) I think it's the first in which each of the girls sings a verse as lead voice 2) it have an official video that was recorded at Agnetha & Björn's home, because Agnetha was very late in her second pregnancy 3) "The name of the game" was released in October 1977, two month before "ABBA The Album" and the film "ABBA The Movie" It was a bold gamble from ABBA, it opened their horizons and spread beyond pop. I think that "The name of the game" (1977) have some vibs or influences of BEATLES songs like "Penny Lane" (1967) or "Fool on the hill" (1967) curiosly, "The name of the game" was #1 only in UK (4 weeks) and replaced in the #1 for "Mull of Kintyre" by Paul McCartney (ex Beatles songwriter)with his new group 'Wings' These is a beautiful perfomance in a TV special ABBA in Japan (1978) with aclot of their hits: Agnetha & Frida shines in her gold costumes, while Björn & Benny use the kimonos ABBA return to Japan in 1980, for live concerts "The name of the game" is in my opinion a masterpiece (10pts) one of the Seven Wonders of ABBA (in chronological order): Waterloo S.O.S Dancing Queen The name of the game Chiquitita The winner takes it all Don't shut me down You have fantastic songs in "The Album" to react, ABBA's most versatile music: Eagle Take a chance on me One man one woman The name of the game Move on Hole in your soul Thank you for the music I wonder I'm a marionette I hope to see you in more ABBA videos A big hug from Buenos Aires, Argentina 🇦🇷 South America

This song is a masterpiece, one of their best. Frida's acapella sequence is magnificent, but all the different sequences and the way they are put together is so sofisticated yet seamless.
I loved your reaction and analysis.Benny had said lately that both girls contributed with ideas in the studio. He praised them for being hard workers and extremely patient and disciplined to his,Bjorn's and M.Tretows demanding requests. He said they could sit there for hours even just doing the 'ooooh's whenever they were asked to.I LUV them.
They both look soooo beautiful here!! I'm also quite a fan of Frida's Lynda Carter hairstyle. She looks like Wonder Woman. Agnetha didn't change her hair much, but she knew what worked for her so no need!
The clip is from a Japanese special ABBA appeared on around 1978. Costumes are a combination of the girls wearing 77 Australian tour costumes, with the guys wearing the kimono costumes from around 76 or 77.
Although they had other top musicians, those three guys are probably the ones most associated as ABBA's regular backing band. Ola Brunkert on drums, Lasse Wellander (guitar) and the great Rutger Gunnarsson on bass. One of my very top favourites songs by them. There is so much going on yet it all ties together brilliantly. You might even notice a slightly slower version of the guitar riff from The Troggs 'Wild Thing' in the choruses.
So maybe the next reaction could be "If It Wasn't For The Nights" at the same setting (Japan 1978) as in this video (but make sure to react to the version which lasts more than 5 minutes). I bet you can't take your eyes off of Frida in that performance (of course I know you never can). 😁
This is my favorite ABBA hit by far. I really like that it showcases the differences in their voices, and of course the combined voices/harmonies. Agnetha with "I was an impossible case" and Frida with "Tell me please".
Don't get tricked by its 'kinky velvet beat'.That's more than a lovesong.Lyricwise it deals with women's inner fears and insecurities to give in to a love affair. Also got some hints on agoraphobia issues.'I was an impossible case,no one ever could reach me/i have no friends,no one to see and i am never invited...../if i trust in you would you let me down?would you laugh at me?.Disarmingly honest and sweet.
PS BTW 'Abba's kinky velvet bed' was a famous- kinda cynical- headline in the Australian press back then in 1977.Older fans do know the story also featured in the 'THE MOVIE' Abba film.I just paraphrased the word bed with the word 'beat' to do some justice, lol.
Abba's hypnotic velvet dazzling magic! And those satin boots and uniforms !...

Frida, my favourite !!! ❤❤
This song is a masterpiece, one of their best. Frida's acapella sequence is magnificent, but all the different sequences and the way they are put together is so sofisticated yet seamless.
I just love ABBA , I STILL LISTEN TO THEIR MUSIC , THE HARMONY'S ARE INCREDIBLE ✝️

Not just one, but two pairs of legs that have no peer in the music industry, matched to angelic voices that harmonise beautifully. What's not to like?
Two of the pair of legs to ever sing!!!!!
They both look soooo beautiful here!! I'm also quite a fan of Frida's Lynda Carter hairstyle. She looks like Wonder Woman. Agnetha didn't change her hair much, but she knew what worked for her so no need!
Haha - yes, it is very Lynda Carter!!
A very underrated ABBA song, it’s another pop masterpiece. Agnetha & Frida at their most beautiful & voices to match.
Frida still has that amazing voice today!

Yeah, those famous beautiful costumes are now exposed in the Abba museum in Stockholm.
Hi, Michael. Good React 👌
This is a masterpiece. No doubt about it.
I hope to see you, very soon with more ABBA👑... take care.

Frida ❤️❤️
Such a great ABBA song
So Frida is your girl, Agnetha is mine (if only) but it doesn't matter because they are both beautiful and brilliant singers.
Agnetha and Frida were the hottest babes of the scene.A double oasis in a desert.
Oh wow! That's marvelous💘
