[New] Union Pacific "Big Boy" 4014 vs N&W Class A - Trainz

- ( Round 2 of the race: 14:55 ) It is about time to create a video for the newly released UP Big Boy 4-8-8-4 #4014 created by Stormsirens2, Trainboi1 and Daylightrain from Trainz Forge ( trainz-forge.com/p/new-releases ). The texturing and attention to details of the new Big Boy are top-notch. The functional smoke deflector and the smoke script is very well created which added value to the simulator. Note the pipings around the firebox and the trailing truck!👍
Our viewer suggested a race between the Big Boy ( TE=135,375 lbf | 6,290 hp) and N&W Class A (TE: 125,897 lbf | 5400hp ), we think that their specs are close enough to create a video of a challenging and tough race. We didn't change the engine specs and scripts for the engines in this video, their whistles are also original.

Ok This Is My Favorite Big Boy Model In Trainz Simulator! It’s Beautiful!
Story:
4014 and 1218 (Renumbered to 1242 for unknown reasons) begin a race, but 1242 has trouble starting up. Her Y2C (Or is it a Y3a?) clone helped her get ready. She was fastest A class with the help of a Y3a/Y2C. More to follow at the end of the video.
N&W's 1218 had a higher tractive force than the Allegheny but much less horse power for the top end. The Class A was 300- PSI while the Allegheny was never pushed above 240 PSI. If the Allegheny had been increased to 300 PSI, I wonder how that would have changed it.
Don't you think it would have been more fair as to display both classes true potential by A.) Starting them both at the same time of departure. B. ) Not allowing the A class a helper. In real life the Norfolk & Western A class had greater tractive effort by using less steam as the UP 4000s. If in doubt look up the mechanical statistics of both classes. The Roanoke Shop Crews could do more with less and still build a superior locomotive.

N&W A class (300psi boiler pressure): 114,000 lbs calculated, 124,500 lbs on test
UP 4-8-8-4: 135,375 lbs calculated, 138,00 on test
The whistle is very well made for the Big Boy, wish I knew the source!
I wonder if someone has commissioned a Y6B through K&L? If anything I can't wait to see their MILW and UP fef!
It's amazing that after looking through some sites that some Yellowstones, PRR Q class (I believe), and the y6b ( possible c class that was tested) have potential higher pulling power than the Big Boy. Now those I would love to see! Haha!
On more continuance, it's amazing just how versatile some locomotives are. The N&W A's and Y6's not only had great pulling capability, but still were capable of high speed travel as well.
It's very similar to the Allegheny, it could not only pull slow drags, but amazed the railroad with there fast speeds!
I'm always amazed with steam power for it's great diversity in the same design. Two locomotives can look almost identical yet perform so differently.
We want to know the source as well. There are lots of HD recordings of the 4014 reborn but I won't be surprised that it is recorded in person by one of the 3D model creators. 😊I don't know why I couldn't use the N&W Y6B which is a built-in model of TS2012, it is still available on the DLS though. The PRR Q2 was one of the most powerful non-articulated steam engine types in terms of DBHP (7900hp)! Unfortunately, all of them were scrapped and long forgotten (Not until BLI brought them back in scale model form!). We are looking forward to K&L Trainz's new releases in Aug as well. I read the updates from their Facebook page, I believe that Aug 2019 will be exciting for the Trainz community. 😎
@@Jones3DModelingClub is there something wrong with your y6? Mines still working thankfully, i now you've probably done it but for alot of those who read this, uninstalling it and reinstalling the item in question can usually fix something wrong with it.
If it's a dependency that's got messed up and then something starts going wrong with the full set it's best to track down all the things required for it and delete them all and reinstall. I've had that happen with some things I've found here and there and accidentally messed something up in the configs and files.

Even with the helper to get up to speed, big boy still was faster and stronger in the long-run. Rip the Y6A in the rematch.
Big Boy would flat stomp the A in a pulling contest or HP Race.

I prefer Pennsylvania Q2 class, more HP than Big Boy. In fact the strongest non-articulated locomotive. (7,987 HP) :D.
