Thank you for another excellent review. I am a fan of Rega gear and most of my audio gear is from Rega. I have tried various amps in my system including the older full case Brio 2000, Elex r, Exon 3's, Elex mk4 and now the Elicit R and so far the Elicit r is my favourite. I can't really afford the Aethos but do like that the new Eliict mk5 uses some of the same components as the Aethos, I definitely will be selling the Elex mk4 and saving to buy a new Elicit mk5 for sure! Thank you Michael.
I can’t seem to replace the Rega DAC.. It’s lovely with the Aethos, which is without question the best bit of kit I ever had. As you can imagine I approve of the Elicit MK5, which will be on the top of my audition list, for a second system 😃
I tested the elicit with an Innuos pulse streamer and it was excellent. The configuration was associated with the totem one signature. I hesitate with the Aethos but to combine with the pulse mini connected to the chord qutest DAC
I prefer a separate DAC because it can be upgraded when new tech becomes available rather than inbuilt DAC which means replacing the whole thing at higher cost.
Does the Athos have a DAC and phono stage? How do they compare to Atoll at a similar price point for the two? And lastly why do some Rega dealers advertise as available in store only? I ask as I am housebound and can only shop online.
Hi Tony Jedi Unfortunately I’ve not heard the Atoll so not qualified to give you a definitive answer. I did read the specs and it seems to be more like the Rega Elex/Elicit performance level. The Aethos has a huge power supply and transformer and hence magnetic fields, this could cause a loss of information on tiny turntable inputs which is why Rega include phono stages on their cheaper amplifiers but not the Aethos. Their matching aria3 phono stage is often partnered with the Aethos. Rega’s entry level products are available online and they feel that with more high end products you are better served by being able to see and hear them at a dealer and have some expert advice. Obviously this isn’t right for you. Can you tell me what area you live in and perhaps I can advise you further. Thanks for watching Michael
Im kinda stuck on the fence -- I was attracted to the Yamaha AS1200 - I like pure analogue - no bells or whistles - but that Elicit 5 sure seems to pack a lot of energy - and with its build quality - I'm sliding towards it ... paired with my Lintons ?? AS1200 or Elicit 5 ??
Hi Daniel, I don't know of any reason, I assume that allowing people to use a streamer/tv is the main purpose although obviously the usb is useful for connecting a computer. Michael
Hi Daniel The LS50Ms are amazing, the better source you feed into them the better they sound. The Elicit is a great match for them, the detail and control of the amplifier really comes through. I have use this combo with a Bluesound Node, Planar6, Planar 8 and an LP12. Always impressive
@@michaelmcclean5169 noise and distortion ! Does the cd player play the music on the disk without adding or removing anything. Is the Dac better than a topping E30 ? If it is, in what way ? If I was racing a formula one car and some said use these tyres they will knock a thousandth off a lap, how would they know, and how would I find out ? Possibly I could use a high performance measuring device and try it in different weather conditions. Then arrive at some data and a conclusion. But thanks for the videos, I do enjoy them.

Does Rega give a reason for not including a USB input? I suspect that will be a deal breaker for some. Thanks
