Sarra I watch you because you are real, down to earth and tell it how it is. You have amazing work. I appreciate that you care enough to put out quality vs quantity. No matter what we do in life the best laid plan can change. You honored your muse by listening and I pray that fans appreciate the love and care you put into your work for the entertainment. Personally it’s ok to be disappointed but to be mean or trash someone isn’t right. Putting good energy around your and all of your fans believe in you. Thanks for being real.

I am inspired, your videos are always real and I love that. You share your knowledge, experience, and you share all of it good and bad and we love you for it. No matter what is going on in your writing life you still come and cheer us on and give us inspiration. Your fans will understand about the release date, and who knows, you might just make it!!! Also...I like what Dawn Montgomery said in her comment here: " Keep going, Sarra! We're trudging right along with you!

Hey! Don't torure yourself, you are an amazing person and writer. You helped me so much many times, since I too strugle with my mental health. Most people speak up when they're angry or desapointed, try to think about the majority of people who don't speak up, because they think it is completly okey. Stay strong

Ah Honey. Don’t be so hard on yourself. This is all life. There are ups and downs all the time. I always say life gets in the way of plans. We just need to readjust and accept that changes happen- which you definitely doing! Thank you so much for sharing so much of this journey with us. Thank you. I was crying with you. I’m so glad you were able to be with your family and get a big load of love and hugs. Those moments seem to help the most. ❤️ keep up the amazing work!

Sarra, this isn't negativity. This is real life and is part of the process that many authors struggle with. You have been able to write two novels and get really close to hitting your preorder this year! Putting out a book you're proud of is what truly matters. ****HUGS****

Dude, your fans have waited years for the book, an extra month is not going to kill them - if readers can't appreciate the love and care that goes into the process, it is their problem as you say. Thanks for sharing the highs and the lows, you are almost single-handedly saving social media's negatives by doing so 🥰

This was the most inspiring videos I've ever seen. For months i have felt like a failure because i wrote a book, then rewrote it because it wasnt right, and then rewrote it again, and still felt like something was off, so i gave up. I felt like i would never figure it out and i wasn't good enough. But watching this journey of yours has showed me how NORMAL my struggles are! So i started working on my story again and... I figured it out!!! I'm going to be rewriting the entire story again but i know what was missing and if it weren't for you, i would have never looled at that story again.
Seriously, thank you, seeing this has been life changing! You're so awesome Sarra! No one would post stuff like this but you and that is why you are an absolute gem. Don't worry about the haters, they dont deserve your stories any way!💖

I wish people would treat others with just a little bit of a grace. Especially in this dumpster-fire of a year. You've accomplished so much with everything you have going on - I promise you, it's very motivating. You've persevered and kept pushing through even though the goal posts have shifted slightly. It would be so easy to just give up and throw it all in. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us ❤️

2/24/23 -- I'm 280 pages into first novel... laptop crashed... hard drive crashed... Scrivener deleted a whole backup (my mistake)... So, in a random frantic "process" search: I found your index card system!!... I started over... I re-built it all... I've watched your journey and You are an INSPIRATION. Thank you for being authentic, and for your willingness to show it ALL (no matter how ugly). I will keeep going. You, as well!! xoxo

Hey Sarra! I've been writing and rewriting my comment for 10 minutes now, but I'll just say this. I bought Death's Awakening and started reading it last week and it's been the first book I truly enjoyed in months. I already have the second one and can't wait for the third. Please don't feel pressured or upset by negative comments, I'm sure once the book is out those who waited will be compensated with an amazing ending to your story. The quality and work you put into your books doesn't go unnoticed. Much love.

As a new writer, I needed this so much. Your message at the end captured where I am, struggling with words that are weak in a story that seems to be coming off the rails. I appreciate your openness and vulnerability so much. It's so inspiring to see you tear things down and put them back together knowing it's built stronger. In the end, being proud of your work is what matters. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of this journey.

I am so grateful for your honesty and willingness to be vulnerable, because it shows us all that this journey is a constant cycling through those ups and downs. It makes my own bumpy, emotional, hopeful journey so much easier to keep moving through! Sarra, you are so loved, appreciated and admired. I hope you can feel that coming through, like a massive wave of support lifting you up and forward. No matter when that wonderful book of yours gets done! XOXOXO

I know I'm a stranger, but I'm going to light a candle on my altar for you today and send some positive vibes your way. You are inspiring in the way you pick yourself up. You deserve the best, and you are right - it is NOT over yet.
I did a hotel day of my own this week so that I could focus on a 10k day. You were my inspiration for doing it - for some reason it had never occurred to me before, but it seems to really work for me, so thank you. I took one night up here in Charlotte to go hammer out words, and I ended up with 12k! So thanks for that, Sarra :))

I got teary-eyed when you started crying. As weird as it may sound, it's a wonderful thing that you care so much about potentially disappointing your readers, as opposed to just looking at it as a "project" that doesn't mean anything. I'm so sorry people can be so mean and rude when you're trying so hard to give them what they want. You're an inspiration to many, many writers, including me.

There's so much I want to say to this. First of all, if you stop following an author because they push the release date back for personal reasons *no matter what you think of those reasons*, you don't deserve the amazing book that the author took their time (not to mention blood, sweat, and tears) to write. I'll get off my soapbox now, but really... You are inspiring to say the least, Sarra. I can't express how much I love watching all of your videos and being part of the community of writers you built. I reward my writing by watching your videos--no joke. And as a result I'm up to just shy of 27k for nano...my best one yet! Keep pushing, girl. We're here for you.

The fact that you care so deeply about creating the best stories for your readers speaks to your love and authenticity. Your story knows what it needs and will be ready when it's ready. Trust that process. As to the haters, do not let them have any room in your heart or mind. Maybe let your husband, or someone else you trust, filter the comments and emails for a while. Your true fans love you and are behind you.
And as someone who has suffered three miscarriages, my heart aches with yours. I do have children to wrap my arms around and snuggle, but that kind of grief never fully goes away.

How in the world can you put yourself down for being normal? You are providing for your family, helping out with decorations and such during the holidays. (By the way, I wish Nanowrimo wasn't in the month of November!) And showing your vulnerable side to us mere mortals makes us feel like we can succeed as much as Wonder Woman (you)!

Thank you for showing both the positives and negatives of your journey as an author. A lot of the time on social media, people smooth those rough parts out and it’s not real. Knowing that even an extremely successful indie author can feel hopeless sometimes gives me hope that I can also feel down about my writing sometimes without giving up completely. You’ve been such a motivation and inspiration and I’m so excited to read this book when it is ready to be released. And hey, so what if it needs to be pushed back? If Cyberpunk can be pushed back like half a year I think people can survive a week or two. :) I’m rooting so hard for you and I know it’ll be a spectacular book. Don’t make yourself sick or burn out.

Posting my first ever comment on TH-cam to cheer you on. Sorry the book is fighting you--I know that feeling! And I know how hard it is to disappoint readers by running late, but you are absolutely right to prioritise making it the best book it can be. You'll never regret that choice. I love this video--even the crying. Sometimes we can feel as though we're the only one who's struggling--it's good to keep it real and show what really happens behind the scenes of an author's life.
I'm in awe that you can continue to make these videos on top of Nano, the book pressure, and keeping up with daily life. You're such a hard worker, and a warm, genuine human being. Sarra don't be so hard on yourself. You are running three businesses, you have 2 small children, and you've pretty much rewritten half of your book in 2 weeks. You are wonderful, and amazing, but you are human. So what if we have to wait on the story a little longer. You chose not to put out a book that you didn't feel was ready instead of handing us a book that was just ok. Don't read the hate mail, focus on the thousands of people who are going to understand. The people that love and support you and don't expect you to be a machine. You are not a failure, you are enough, you are loved. Pick yourself up and keep writing. You got this!!

It took me a while to formulate this response to you. Firstly I am sorry that you get a hard time, anyone who is a fan and watches these videos should know that you are working as hard as you can to get it done. Secondly...you have integrity as an author to make your books the best they can be, and that is where you excel 100%. Thirdly, thank you so much for sharing this journey with us. So often we see authors who seem to have it easy, they have everything together. We don't ever see the reality of what writing can be like and this makes you the most inspiring author I've ever seen. You show us how normal this can be, how hard it is and it makes us feel like being a successful author is unobtainable. We love your work but we love you, Sarra the person a lot more. Xx

Sarra, thank you so much for being honest and open in this video! I am sorry you went through these struggles, but I think we all need to talk about them more and let ourselves feel our feelings (me included!) My kiddos are almost two and their birth was traumatic, and I keep expecting myself to just get over the experiences I went through. However, I they are things that happened and no amount of ignoring or pretending they don't bother me will make them go away. It also doesn't take away from the joy I feel spending time with them and watching them grow and learn.
I really appreciate you sharing this, especially at the week three mark of NaNo and especially as a creative person. Please know that whatever negative feedback you get from people who don't understand you is far outweighed by the appreciation from people who do understand. You are seen and heard and loved.

Sending so much love to you, Sarra! Putting in the work to send your best work out into the world IS integrity and being your best self. I'm so glad you shared this. I had myself a midpoint meltdown today too! Being a creative means putting our hearts on the page and that comes with pains. I for one am always so grateful for you and inspired by you. I'm also so excited to read this book, I know it'll be worth the wait! 💜😘

I honestly don't know how I wanna say this, so I'm gonna do my best to put it out there. You're amazing, inspiring, and brave. It definitely wasn't easy for you to put all of that on your channel, but you did it anyway, and I believe it's going to help so many of us. It's one thing for writers to just say "writing's hard" or "I'm struggling a bit," it's another to see it, to realize that all those doubts, all those "failures," are there for so many other writers. That, even if things aren't working out the way they'd hoped and planned, they're still pushing ahead and not giving up. You are even more of an inspiration to me now. I've been writing for the last 18 years since I was thirteen, but only started finishing up my stories after I found your channel October of last year, leading me to finish my first book during Nano (I haven't been brave enough to do rewrites yet). This year, I wrote a novella last month and am about to finish two (hoping for three) this month, only after I started watching your channel again and participating in your sprint group. And all those people who walked (or may walk) away from your books just for being a bit late aren't the kind of fans you need, and I'm betting your career will be better off without them, making way for true fans.

I appreciate this post so much more than you might know. I have been struggling with writing in general and have felt like maybe I’m just not disciplined or good enough to ever think I could make a living as a writer.
Seeing you, someone who makes a living writing, go through this rough patch has helped me realize that maybe this just happens some times and I should power through it.
Thank you for your authenticity. ❤️

First of all, I want to say how much you inspire me as a writer. I have read your Shadow Demons series up to Deceiving Darkness (I still have plans to finish it) and it was the first series I read after a three year long depression where I did not read or write, which is a big deal for me. Your series was instrumental in pulling me back into reading and getting me back to a creative mindset. Now, I have read over 50 books in 2020 and have started planning out my first novel. So, thank you so much for that.
Second, after reading your series, I found your channel and I LOVE how transparent you are. I love that you don’t have the mentality that your secrets are yours to keep and other authors should struggle to find their way, as if that makes their author journey more meaningful. I love that you genuinely want to help and you can tell how much you love your craft. I love that you acknowledge your struggles and normalize it because we all struggle, as authors and just as people. Life happens. Sometimes things are outside our control. It sucks and it hurts and it’s okay to cry, but you still have to keep going. It’s like that saying, “Don't forget you're human, it's ok to have a meltdown. Just don't unpack and live there. Cry it out and then refocus on where you are headed.”
You are an amazing person. If you have to push back your book, people will live. They might be disappointed, they might be angry, but they will be okay. If they choose not to read your book because of a one week delay, it’ll be their loss.
Thank you, again, for everything you do for readers and writers like me! You’re a true inspiration.

So sorry you were having a hard time, Sarra! I just want you to know that you are a precious lady. You have so much heart and give so much of yourself to others! I was shocked when you shared that you got hate mail because your book was late, but that's the kind of culture we live in! You don't have to read hate mail. Your well being is not dependent on whether people approve of you or not. I think your fans need to know that. If they don't like something they can go elsewhere! That might sound harsh, but you are a precious lady and im praying for you!

Hey Sarra. You are so inspiring, I know this is going to suck and there are going to be some people who don't look at the big picture, but you are rocking this. You have faced a hard moment and you know that. You were able to see yourself in your hard spot but know this isn't the end. The people who are going to complain are those who could never do what you do. You've got a huge heart, so thank you for being real with us.
I got to say. This Nano started off rough for me. I've been having issues with querying agents and I felt like if the book I wrote and loved can't get anyone's attention, would any of my writing. I went to your channel and watched old vlogs. You pepped me back up and reminded me that writing isn't always easy but I wouldn't be doing anything else.
So from one person who you've raised up. I just got to say, you're awesome, inspiring, and if a reader is going to complain about a pre-order being pushed back, that means they've never had a project that was due, and they were running late. I feel happy for them that they never have to deal with that kind of stress. But. You're stronger than them. You're handling the stress.
Have a great day and you've got this, even if it takes a little longer to get it done.

Thank you, Sarra, for being so ruthlessly authentic and honest about your struggles. It encouraged me so much to know that I am not alone. So much of the time on social media we talk about what’s good and positive and it ends up sounding like everything is great all the time. But there are negatives to everything and we need to show those as well, if we’re to truly share the whole journey. We are all human, which means we’re not perfect and anyone who expects that of us is really not worth any time or tears. Just know that you have fans out there who care as much for you as you do for them and will wait patiently for your work because it’s better to have work you’re proud of than a slapped together pile of, well, you know. Don’t be pressured to release something before it’s ready. Your true fans will realize it is worth the wait.

Thank you for (as always) being so honest and open about the reality of author life. My daughters and I always put our books up for preorder as a way to push ourselves to meet deadlines but sometimes it is so stressful - we've come close to missing that important upload deadline a few times, resulting in stress/tears/feelings of failure. With a full time job on my part and full time school on theirs (college & high school) it's hard to juggle everything, but we wouldn't give up writing or sharing our stories with our readers for anything. Thanks for being such an inspiration.

Thank you, Sarra. The whole package of what you shared and showed displayed how well you work in those circumstances and how you recover and take care of yourself by spending time with your family :) This vlog makes your advice about remembering why you are doing this and remembering your ideal life; managing burnout; planning for days off; scheduling when you can't write - more meaningful and pertinent.
As mums, we are still people with dreams but advice on how to reach our goals normally involves having partially neglected children, a neglected partner, burnout, or neglect of self and spirit. You are really sharing something of value, including psychological value, about how to plan and set reasonable goals and how to find your process ...and how to stay motivated ...and how to make time for what is truly important ...and how to tell the story that is within you to the best of your ability ...and how to be kind to yourself ...and how to bring home the bacon ...and how to live your best life ...Thank you, again
