Thanks very much! Really appreciate the detailed step-by-step and the follow up confirmation after several months 👏🏼 I have a 2008 Highlander Sport (non hybrid), and this worked perfectly. No alarms for 2+ months now. Thanks from Maine USA 😘
Before dismantling or cleaning any parts. Try this! The security alarm was triggered because of a problem with the hood latch switch. I fixed it by adjusting the hood stabilizer rubber screws to their lowest setting, allowing the hood to close more tightly and make firm contact with the hood latch. This resolved the issue, and the alarm stopped going off. (in other words, I simply adjusted the hood alignment rubber screws, the two little rubber pieces on each side of the car under the hood.)
How has this held up? Just finished cleaning and hoping to god the 1am and 3am car alarms stop. Feel terrible for my neighbors and tired of sleeping with fob in hand. 😂
It’s lasted really well so far. It’s probably due for another clean and this time I’m going to pull the switch apart for proper internal cleaning so I can be more confident that it’s definitely clean. But so far so good
Thanks for the video; my car just started to do this today. Now I look forward to applying this to resolve the false alarm issue. Many thanks again, Cheers. On a side-note, who manufactures that front bumper; is it an Australia exclusive item? TIA
Good luck with it, hopefully if it’s just started you can clean it up without having to pull it apart! That bar is Australian built by ECB. They are really expensive off the shelf (like $3k) but I have picked up a couple of used ones over time for $200-$400 a piece.
Hi there. That was throttle body cleaner - good to flush out the gunk loosened up by the WD40. It’s a bit more aggressive than electrical cleaner. Good for big chunky electrical components but not good for fine stuff or circuit boards. Could use electrical cleaner no problems if you have it on hand.
I’m not sure. I haven’t tested to see if an open circuit triggers the alarm or a closed circuit. If it’s open then you would just need a way to bridge the contacts on the plug so that the system thinks it’s always closed.
Hi there. Mine is a 2008 (2nd generation) they are all the same from 2007-2013. Your would be a 3rd generation so I can’t say for sure. But my guess would be it’s similar. Have a look inside your front grill at the hood latch mechanism and see if it has some wires coming off it. If it does then that would indicate that the hood latch is wired to the alarm system.
Mine was caked with road grime and grease. I think hitting it initially may drive more of it into the internals of the switch. However once it’s clean I wouldn’t hesitate to do it. May help the cleaners penetrate into the switch more. Would spray some more on again after the air as well though. Allow as much chance as possible for it to seep in and clear out the internal contacts. Good idea! Thanks for the message!!!
Vegas Baby! I lived in Henderson for a bit! Loved it there! We are in Australia now, these bars come from East Coast BullBars over here. Very pricey new but now these are older cars can pick the bars up cheap on FB marketplace.
So far so good, cleaned it just like you did. 2010 Highlander. Thanks mate!
Awesomeness! Fingers crossed it continues to behave itself 😊

Hey great tip! Thanks for the info ☺️👍
Thank you. After I saw your video on TH-cam, I decided to start with checking the hood alignment first, and it fixed the problem. Cheers!
@@badralshammari1760 that’s awesome. Nice work. I’ll check mine too ☺️👍

Thanks! Great and cheap solution! You sprayed with WD and what is the second sprayer you are using? Electric cleaner can sprayer?

So good!!
could you unplug that cable instead of cutting it ? im going to take it out tomorrow and give it a clean but am just wondering incase that doesnt work

Hi, thanks for your video. Would this fix work on a 2015 Highlander sold in the US ? I can’t tell the year of yours. Thanks!

Nice video mate would a good hit with an air gun work pre WD and throttle body cleaner? Cheers
