@@douglaskampfer2028 interesting, having rough time getting powdered frankincense resin to burn in my cones. Will try this for sure. It's dried already tho
These turned out so great and the stick burns so lovely (even if they do from both ends). I will need to give this recipe a try 😊👌👌 also: I am so glad to not be the only one with a messy incense burner hihi
Nice try! I make incense with improvised materials. Bamboo skewers work as incense blanks, charcoal powder as a neutral base, any form of edible gum/starch as binder. The door is wide open indeed!
Me too! I just started making jewelry. I have made candles, lip balms, skin products, soaps and the list goes on! I want to make lavender incense to keep bugs from coming into the house.
Thank you so much for such a candid video. Really appreciate your simple 3 ingredient process. I have been hanging on to some sandalwood powder for a while but just couldnt find a good video but I absolutely love your method so will try now.
Thank you Megan I have watched other videos; let me start by saying you got straight to the point and showed me exactly what to do and get. Thank you very much again for sharing you have helped me lots I'm a newbie. :)
You can also measure out 1/8 tsp, of your incense dough and roll it into sticks between your palms. I like to form the stick as much as I can with my fingers and place it across my palm, then continue rolling between my palms for the last half inch or so of length. I aim for a length that is the width of my palm from index finger across to the pinky finger side. Or you can scoop your dough with 1/4 tsp and form it into cones. If you have ever seen Shoyeido's incense, or bought them, I try to aim for the size of the thicker, shorter sticks like their River Path.
Wow I didn't think it was so easy!thought you may have to add sulphuric or something to keep it burning.i will definitely be trying this I might put them in a low oven to dry them and drill a hole in the cones so they go on my back flow burner..but blessings to you for sharing.💛👌👍
Yes! They actually make a little tool to make backflow cones. That's up next on my list of things to do because I have a gorgeous backflow burner that I want to use all the time. Brooklynn, who I was inspired by, adds activated charcoal to theirs to help it burn but I didn't have any issues with mine. I think it could just be preference or the type of incense they make.
@@RoundtheCauldron yes I have a lovely mermaid burnrner.but I found with some makes of incense, cones they burn really fast and give you a sore throat.?.covid cones I call them.🤭but home made sounds perfect! And you can add intent for white sage incense so win win all round 😉
Try giving your cones a week or so to dry, and flip them over each day so that they dry evenly. I usually wait for my cones to be dry enough that I can touch them easily and not distort their shape, about 6 hours after making them. At this point I turn them onto their side so the bottoms can dry. I just leave them that way until the next day. Then I will roll them to one side or another to make sure they dry evenly.
Thank you for all the wonderful advice! I do plan on making more incense like this once I find my makko powder (or buy some more). I'll definitely keep all your tips in mind for next time! 🙏
I never feel right using a whole charcoal brick because I never need the whole thing, but breaking it up has been wonky for using incense. Making my own has been a dream and when I stumbled over makko powder as an additive I was so excited. I am going to try it myself soon and hope for the best.
You might wish to try Japanese bamboo charcoal; it does not contain sodium or potassium nitrate, but lights quite well in a candle flame (you will need to use tongs to hold it). You can light one end and give it a few minutes in the incense burner to expand the burning area. It comes in two sizes (that I have found), a square about 1"x1" & a small rectangle about 1/2"x 1".
wow! That's impressive. I'm not as brave. It's great to tailor it to your magickal needs though, that's something I wish was an option when selecting the ones at the stores
Great video. Thank you so much for sharing. I cannot make the sticks because I cannot find black sticks in my country.. I will figure out what sticks I can use instead. But I will definitely make the cones.. And I will make sage and rosemary ones, because I dislike that whenever I buy "Natural" ones, they do not seem to really smell so natural to me.
Hey girl! Did you put holes in your cones? Someone told me to do so that’s what I’ve done since the beginning and I feel like they don’t stay lit. They’re small but don’t burn well. Maybe I shouldn’t put the holes???
Hey! I actually didn't put holes in them! I think they may have just been not dry all the way. They were pretty thick. If I make cones again, I will let them dry for several days before even trying to light them.
The tabu no ki (or makko) powder is what makes the incense so no, probably not like this. I do have another older video about making loose incense that you can put in an oil burner or on a charcoal disk! I'll find the link for you.
I'm confused I buy white sage all the time 🤷🏻♀️ I believe it's made in Mexico where mine comes from probably could fine it on Amazon if you couldn't find it?👍🏻
White sage is a plant that is native to parts of California and Mexico. I don't have an issue finding white sage. The issue is that the Indigenous People of the Americas have asked people to choose another herb to burn for cleansing rituals. White Sage is one of four sacred medicines to some indigenous tribes. The commercialization of white sage, over harvesting, and the fact that Indigenous People were legally forbidden from practicing their beliefs in the US until the 70s makes it a matter of respect over anything else. I choose not to use white sage out of respect for those Indigenous People who were oppressed and couldn't use it while corporations and others profited from their sacred medicine and culture.
Lovely. I've always wondered what was needed and how. I would love to try one day. When you used your essentials oils, did they work as good as these (herb powder)? Thanks for sharing
Hello, I’m from Myanmar. I have some small shoot from agarwood plant. I watched your video and now I want to do something like that. Could you please explain it clearly....
Thank you! I don't use Facebook much anymore. Now everything is through my Discord server or my membership. You can check my website for more info if you want 😊
Hi. I didn't use Makko powder I used Xanthan Gum and my cones didn't light up. I added charcoal powder to my mix, I don't know if that was the reason why. I was wondering if maybe you had some information regarding that. Thank you!
The makko powder is necessary to make incense, in my experience. Even with charcoal powder, the makko powder is what lights and allows it to burn. You've got to have that for it to work. Xanthum gum is just a thickening agent which isn't the purpose of the makko powder.
Thank you so much for recognizing the Indigenous and white sage. I'm Indigenous but Juniper is my favorite. I loved this. Love your energy.
Absolutely. It's the right thing to do 💖 thank you so much for watching!
On your cones, make sure you hallow out the centers, you can do this by running a knitting needle in the bottom of the cones to the tip.
@@douglaskampfer2028 interesting, having rough time getting powdered frankincense resin to burn in my cones. Will try this for sure. It's dried already tho
@@douglaskampfer2028 why do you have to hollow out the center of the cones?
@@bettysamson4925 it allows air flow within the cone, allowing the cone to burn from the inside out, thereby using the entire cone in one burn.

Unless you like herb-flavored coffee, buy a separate 'coffee grinder' for use with herbs.
And another for chemicals like potassium nitrate, sulfur, sodium nitrate etc. which can be used to create an even burn
