True story When I was just a child, about 5 or 6 in 2006-2007, I loved McDonalds. ALl of the kids did when times were better. There was an event in front of a Food Lion in Tightsqueeze Chatham VA, and I was there, wearing my yellow dress and Dora sandals. I can't remember what the event was about, but I think it was to celebrate the grand opening of the McDonalds in that area. Ronald McDonald was there, and was asking a child for a volunteer. I raised my hand and he picked me, then told me to come over. He got down on one knee and asked me: "What do you like about McDonalds?" "It taste good." I said. A photo of me with Ronald was taken, but due to a house fire in 2010, the photo was burned and never seen again. I'll always remember it though. I love Ronald and Mcdonalds was my whole childhood. Even after church events my baby sitter would take me and the other kids to McDonalds every night to grab a Happy Meal and then drive us home. Happy times...
Facts. I remember those Ronald McDonald cartoon video tapes they would give to me at McDonalds years ago. I was flooded with a feeling of nostalgia when I saw them again at Value Village. They need to bring back these characters and cartoons. Maybe make a Netflix cartoon series.
Its not the negative clown association at all Ronald McDonald is still the mascot for Ronald's house of charity which is a non-profit organization that helps children with life threatening diseases. A court case sueing McDonald's for associating the mascot with both the fast food chain and the charity was deemed unethical so McDonald's made the decision to have Ronald be associated with the charity as its the better look for the character.
Why would this even need to be addressed?! Like, who had so much time on their hands to go after a beloved children's mascot? I hate lawyers and stupid judges.
Ronald McDonald and Robert Gray (Pennywise) were adopted brothers by a man named John Wayne Gacy. Robert followed in his dad's footsteps while Ronald took the "goodie" route. 😂😂😂
A sign of changing times. In the 1960s taking the family to the circus was common. Clowns where common at bday parties into the 1980s. If he scares kids then you won't sell many happy meals parents will avoid McDonald's altogether rather then have a scared child and I don't blame them
Ronald McDonald was largely gone from the restaurants long before 2016. They were removing PlayPlaces all the way back in 2010. This is because people made a stink about targeting fastfood to children. So McDonald's stopped doing so for the most part. They still have the Happy Meal, but McDonaldland was basically paved over and the restaurants were given a more corporate design so as to be seen as targeting adults instead of kids
Clowns used to be so much more than just “scary” 3AM video mascots. They used to actually mean something. And the talent that they would pull out just to entertain people was amazing. I remember going to the circus when I was really young and seeing a clown for the first time. It was genuinely mesmerizing and super beautiful to see the actors/acrobats doing these crazy tricks that blew my mind. And so when the whole “killer clown” thing started happening I remember one of these “killer clowns” came up to me and my friends to prank is for their TH-cam channel. And I just looked at them and thought to myself “clowns used to mean something. thanks for reducing them to a simple trend.” And walked away. Not even scared, just disappointed.
I hadnt been in a McDonalds in a very long time, I stopped into one in Ontario Canada for breakfast and saw it was SO santized from its glory days. You HAVE to order from an electronic kiosk. NO one to take your order. I got a egg/ham/cheese on english muffin, hash-brown and small coffee. Total bill?? $7.85 and took 14 mins to receive the order! I was 3rd in line!! I can get a full size breakfast to most diners for that! I wont be stopping at one again!

I remember the commercials in the 90s when Ronald would kind of sneak in to different camera shots sporadically, but wasn't the focus of the commercial. In hindsight that was likely the start of them gradually phasing him out.
I remember as a child, I would go to McDonalds and in the cake display case, a Ronald McDonald doll sat next to a tipping jar. I always loved watching him when my mum ordered. I would watch him every time we went. I was so interested. Then one day when we came to McDonalds after a year, I was looking forward to seeing the doll again however it was gone. I was devastated. My childhood was ruined.
That “guy” is the today show’s own Willard Scott. He was a local Washington DC television celebrity. The Ronald campaign started locally, right there, with him.
I remember growing up in the 70 & 80 and my friends and I was all terrified of clowns. Didn't help my mom told me the following, " if you don't mind or you act out the clown will come and k i l l you when you sleep." Needless to stay I was the good child until I turned 16, then I became an alcoholic.
Ronald McDonald im sure is doing just fine. When you meet Ronald McDonald he never ever gets out of character Even when kids try to trip him up. That man does very well for himself and McDonald's.
Reminds me of a song I used to hear on the Dr. Demento radio show. It went a little like this...... Jimmy Johnson ran away and didn't say goodbye...... Ronald went to look for him to help the FBI..... When he was put in cuffs, his eyes filled up with tears.... He said, "I'll be back to play, sometime in twenty years... 🤔
I remember the whole crew came to entertain my preschool class around 1985. I loved the Hamburglar! And the McDonald's clown was a close second! They were the original '80's cast, from what I could tell. Funny thing is, my first "real" job was at McDonald's when I was 17! Good times.
Great memory there. Or? Did you remember a dream you had? I bring this up because I too, once had that problem. It's fixed. I think eating more healthy foods and working longer hours helped the problem go away.
I guess making children's characters scary and disturbing basically ruins an entire brands reputation and also someone's jobs reputation like birthday clowns or circus clowns ... really shows how disturbing reality can be and how destructive a simple horror idea can be , it may seem normal to us but for other people its like crushing a sweet and happy dream with horror and gore , they didn't deserve this 💔 , the worst part is the people like killers or kidnppers or ... posing as clowns - Bless the hearts of people who still love and respect the og and friendly clowns , the real heros ❤
The reason why Ronald and all of the other characters was because of a group of people made a fuss over them stating that McDonald's food was not healthy and the Characters were enticing children to eat unhealthy foods. It's was also around the time that the Marlboro man, Joe camel were discontinued being cited as bad influences as well.
Ah yes, the early 70s were fond memories for Mc Donald's! The private birthday parties you could book, the playland came along too late for me. I remember REAL collectible glassware which I still have stored for display, not use. Most fondly I remember the characters and commercials seen mostly on weekends. Ronald of course was THE main character, there was Grimace the purple predecessor of Barney lol, Mayor Mc Cheese, the police man ( name???), the hamburger, the fry patch, and later a female version of Grimace. Those are the ones that I can still remember. Did I miss anyone else? A fun trip down memory lane. McDonald's was kid oriented but the food was just that.....food! It wasn't until 1976 when they came out with a contest where you could win a t shirt if you walked in the store and recited the entire lyrics to the BIG Mac song! I begged my parents to take me , and I was humiliated because MANY franchises weren't required to participate.....like mine!! So after I sang the song PERFECTLY, I got a weird look and was asked what I thought I was doing?? I explained, and was told " we don't do that here"!! Not even an I'm sorry or free hamburger or something. Remember chicken nuggets were a long ways in the future! It was the turning point for me! I hate the BK king character.....creepier than any clown! The recycled 70s jingle, " Have it your Way" sucks with the out of tune singer! However, the guy who wrote the ba da bop bop ba thing for McDonald's needs eternal punishment for that annoying ear worm!!! Give it up McDonald's, let this jingle and it's many phases die already!!!!
Thats because McD's used to be kid oriented. Now its more adult focused. They started off by acing play places, then upgraded the look. They stopped doing birthday parties as well along with changing up the happy meals and sending Ronald McDonald to an early grave.
I remember when I was little I used to go to McDonald’s and play in Ronald play areas and Ronald benches and it’s such a shame he’s gone I really miss him
The fact that they had a clown to promote food in the first place blows my mind. To me as a kid Ronald McDonald made me hate McDonalds until I was about 21
Well, in the UK unescorted children were recently told to LEAVE McD's. So much for aiming at Kids. They gave that up as soon as Burgers and fries became seen as 'unhealthy' and tried to change their corporate image.
McDonald's has gone downhill not only in terms of quality of food but also by how they treat their employees. I recently left my job there due to bullying and discrimination from managers based on my disability!
Haven't seen Ronald since I was a kid in the 80s. Honestly, clowns never bothered me. My Dad and Aunt used to dress as clowns for family parties years ago. Very true

Awesome, thanks for the info.
True story
When I was just a child, about 5 or 6 in 2006-2007, I loved McDonalds.
He got down on one knee and asked me: "What do you like about McDonalds?"
"It taste good." I said.

Ronald is working behind the scenes
Facts. I remember those Ronald McDonald cartoon video tapes they would give to me at McDonalds years ago. I was flooded with a feeling of nostalgia when I saw them again at Value Village. They need to bring back these characters and cartoons. Maybe make a Netflix cartoon series.
True
Joker: "I here to fill the position."
MCDs: "Are you a good clown?"
Joker: "Hold my 🍟 . . . And watch." *Joker laugher*
MCD is an empire because they adjust to changing times.
At least one person willing to post facts. Thank you
I swear our legal system has no common sense.
Why would this even need to be addressed?! Like, who had so much time on their hands to go after a beloved children's mascot? I hate lawyers and stupid judges.
@@RobReynard5884stupid or just being pushovers?
No it was the character It and the Joker that did Ronald in. There's an evil clown in twisted metal too! They all bad .
Characters like Pennywise, The Joker and Art The Clown have made clowns scary.

My cousin was a manager at McDonalds. She told me that kids would shit and piss in the PlayPlaces.

McDonald was the best place on earth back in the 90s ❤
Clowns used to be so much more than just “scary” 3AM video mascots.
They used to actually mean something. And the talent that they would pull out just to entertain people was amazing.
I remember going to the circus when I was really young and seeing a clown for the first time.
It was genuinely mesmerizing and super beautiful to see the actors/acrobats doing these crazy tricks that blew my mind.
And so when the whole “killer clown” thing started happening I remember one of these “killer clowns” came up to me and my friends to prank is for their TH-cam channel. My childhood was ruined.

I think since the whole killer clown era is why he vanished. But I’m scared more of Barney then mr. McDonald.
That “guy” is the today show’s own Willard Scott. He was a local Washington DC television celebrity. The Ronald campaign started locally, right there, with him.
I remember growing up in the 70 & 80 and my friends and I was all terrified of clowns. Didn't help my mom told me the following, " if you don't mind or you act out the clown will come and k i l l you when you sleep." Ronald McDonald im sure is doing just fine.

I remember the whole crew came to entertain my preschool class around 1985. I loved the Hamburglar! And the McDonald's clown was a close second! They were the original '80's cast, from what I could tell. Funny thing is, my first "real" job was at McDonald's when I was 17! Good times.
Is so ugly i mean bring me to love him
Great memory there. Or? Did you remember a dream you had? I bring this up because I too, once had that problem. It's fixed. I think eating more healthy foods and working longer hours helped the problem go away.
I guess making children's characters scary and disturbing basically ruins an entire brands reputation and also someone's jobs reputation like birthday clowns or circus clowns ... really shows how disturbing reality can be and how destructive a simple horror idea can be , it may seem normal to us but for other people its like crushing a sweet and happy dream with horror and gore , they didn't deserve this 💔 , the worst part is the people like killers or kidnppers or ... posing as clowns
- Bless the hearts of people who still love and respect the og and friendly clowns , the real heros ❤
Lmao it's been years and I'm still terrified of Clowns- back in 2016 Is when my anxiety started lol

I remember when I was little I used to go to McDonald’s and play in Ronald play areas and Ronald benches and it’s such a shame he’s gone I really miss him
“We hardly see him”
Ronald: in memes
Also ronalds memes: am I a joke to you
Yes,…….yes you are
The fact that they had a clown to promote food in the first place blows my mind.
"Ronald Mcdonald disappeared" Say hello to Philippines hes always in the entrance of the restaurant 🇵🇭
And scares roughly as many kids as the Jollibee.
Yo i remember Ocotber 2016 when we get home from school, me and my friends would say to each other "ayo dont die". That was fun tbh
