- @greatbritishcarjourney invited us to have a fresh look around the museum, with new exhibits including a 10-mile Vauxhall Victor FE, a 4-mile Mini, Princess Anne's Scimitar (until recently) and the pictured BMC 1100 cutaway.
We also had chats with @UKBarnFinds , @idriveaclassic , @WrenchingWench , @furiousdriving and @UPnDOWNgo and check them all out if you haven't already!
HubNut merch? Find it at hubnut.org but note we're not processing orders until next week. Cheers!

Ian, The Scimitar reminded me of a story that my brother told me. Sometime in the late 1980s he was riding his motorbike around Marble Arch, rather too fast, when the cops flagged him down. As the discussion about his misdemeanor was proceeding, the police radio burst into life. Apparently Princess Anne was off somewhere in her yellow Scimitar and needed instant accompaniment for security reasons. After a certain amount of cursing her inconsiderate behaviour, they turned their back on brother Chris and set off at speed. Leaving him very relieved and forever grateful to the wonderful Princess Anne...
Mr Kitch has absolutely nailed the folly of the MoT exemption for older cars. I've heard some recent horror stories about such modern classics that truly frighten me. Apart from that, a most interesting video and a fine start to the year - watched whilst drinking tea from my Clement (RIP) mug.
Thanks for the interviews Ian; good viewing indeed.
Joined UK Barn Finds as a result never having been aware of their channel. Kitch makes a great interviewee - should you wish to start a chat show he should be your co-presenter!
Jolly decent of you to do this Ian, basically helping others promote their channels. Made for a good video too. 👍
I absolutely love your channel, what beautiful collection of lovely old prestine cars . I love you and Steph , such lovely people you are ,
What a great idea. I will now explore these other creators channels. A bloke, who loves nostalgia and who is definitely over 45...
Absolutely brilliant video Ian ❤👍I was amazed by that old vauxhall only 10 miles on absolutely amazing collection of classics brilliant
Very enjoyable video 👍.The thing is with an MOT or WOF here in NZ you have one every 6 months if your vehicle is before 2000. I find this very frustrating. Once, when I took my Series 3 XJ6 to a testing station (that's all they do there) for its test, the techs had no idea. And I was told as much after I questioned their confused faces. Hopeless!
Yes, I do find that rule odd. Especially given Betty came to the UK with a fresh WOF and an utterly knackered top ball joint...
@HubNut There has never been any consistency in our WOF, unfortunately.
Thank you for showing enthusiasm about a Sunbeam Rapier Fastback! That has made our day! 😻😻😻
So nice to see some members of the huge classic car family. I have to visit the channels of UKBarnFinds, WrenchingWench and Furiousdriving. I don't know them so well yet...
Happy New Year to everyone!
Older people are on you tube because we are fed up with Tv also my wife loves all the tv soaps I don’t so you tube is my entertainment the the only thing is most of the older cars I can remember them being lunched also watching most of them rust away. We had a school trip to the triumph factory in Liverpool and one of work staff showed us a rooftop panel and told us was from a new car soon to be lunched but we could no go into the final assembly plant because someone from a different school told is dad about the new car he had seen and his dad told the press the car was the triumph stage
I got so fed up with my TV that I gave it away in 2020. I was hardly watching it so its licence was a waste of money.
I'm now about £500 in pocket.
I love that Vauxhall Victor FE and the story behind it.
I really need to visit that museum too - What an amazing collection of cars that just should not really exist anymore! Nice to see all the other youtubers as well!
Great vid, I’ve subscribed to these throughout last year or so after seeing them on your channel 👍
Lovely old museum it is there 👍 perhaps one day I’ll make the journey 🌅🏁
Great video. All my favourite car TH-camrs in one place, just missing Twin Cam & All Things Alex!
“It’s Fine” needs to be on Mr Kitch’s merchandise…!
Excellent video Mr Hub nut, happy new year to you and your family. Long time subscriber to most of the youtubers there and love uk barn finds there great, also must say the youtube channel Geof buys cars is excellent love his channel would recommend it to everyone here.
That Paramount looks great. The company was bought by Camden Motors of Leighton Buzzard who continued production for a while in the mid 1950s
Another top video Ian with a twist, the TH-camrs. Oddly I'm a subscriber to nearly all of them. From being a sub of this channel for some years I can totally understand that a lot more goes into creating content than meets the eye. It's not just a case of having a camera and talking it's about editing and production along with insurance, maintenance, logistics, spares, fuel for the cars and the family plus a pile of other stuff. Many thanks for sharing.
The Princess Royals reg plate. 1420H. She was the Colonel in chief of my old regiment. The 14th 20th Kings Hussars. Now the Kings Royal Hussars from amalgamation with the Royal Hussars in 1992.
That plate will be worth a few bob. 👍🏻
Following Hub Nut from the verry beginning. The only video to end without the woosh and indicators flashing.
Much appreciated Ian, thanks for sharing 😊👍
Many thanks Mr Hub Nut .I really enjoyed the chats with all my other favourite u tubers
That was fantastic! It was nice to see all my favourite TH-camRS in one place. I know you have been to the different shows together this year, but I don't think I've seen a structed interview together. Therefore, this got me thinking, Who did I watch first and in what order? I think I stated with you because I've just received my third calendar. It was sometime before you did that massive country to country trip. As you know, I am severely disabled, so was naturally was drawn to TWC. We had a friend with Polio who had one. So the question going through my mind was; Why does this no-disabled man want to use a disabled three wheeler? I'm not sure, however, now I don't care. The next person was Steph. I just found her. Being into older vehicles, I just started watching and became interested. Then came came Matt. Again, I was just browsing and came across 'Fundraising' and liked it so stated watching. Then last, but not least Elton and Claire. I found UK Barn Finds through ACA. Then got 'hooked on that too. During CVD19, I came across HandH Classic Car Auctions Watched them. Loved it, then looked for more. Found ACA started watching them. Then found Manor Park classics, started watching them. Now, I think I think I watch about 6 or 7. The reason is dad took us to the auction to buy the family car. The funny thing is the cars we bought as family bangers that we kept for a year or two at the most [until they dropped to bits] are now CLASSICS! As some of you know, I type with my nose.
Excellent episode! That's a stellar museum, and being able to drive some of the collection is amazing. Plus, I very much enjoy seeing you TH-camrs come together.
Another classic. Thanks, Ian and the lovely interviewees! 😊
Loved the Victor & the Landcrab. Great to meet the other You tubers
My wife took me there last October on my 50th birthday, really great to see so many nice examples. Great day. Need to go back this year and have a drive of something.
Nice to see you talking to your "competitors", a very enjoyable video - thank you 😊
Good one geezers and girls. I love to see you all doing it together.
A great video looking around the museum and a great opportunity to speak to fellow TH-camrs who have become firm friends.
At least in N.S.W Australia it doesn't matter how old your car is if its over five years okd it still has to have its yearly registration inspection it is great to chat to other you tubers most of which l subscribe to
The cutaway Austin (Morris?) 1100 reminded me of a lengthwise cut in half Mini that used to be in Sussex Police Headquarters in Lewes when I was a lad. It had supposedly been used in vehicle training at some point in the past but was just on display in a window you could see from a side road. I don’t know what became of it but I hope it was saved as it was in great condition. I seem to remember it being left hand drive for some reason, too. 👍🏻
One of my highlights was seeing you and furious and I drive a Classic, talking at festival of the unexceptional. You were great on stage and work really well together.
Such nice folks here it the love of their subject that makes these videos so interesting. Same with vintage electronics & technology folks on you tube
I had an algorithm once but it died of starvation.
Lovely to see the big happy family!
Please could you, at some point, review a Jowett Bradford alongside Bob. The same solution, a few decades apart.
Thoroughly enjoyed the content Ian. Thank you.
Having worked for a national van hire company as a mechanic (twice 😂) I can confirm they go through....erm....stuff like you wouldn't believe....usually twice, upside down, on fire & always overdue a service 😂
Great video. Thanks for introducing me to some other TH-camrs. Keep up the good work :)
another great video has always Ian and miss hubnut and hublets and hubmutts 👍
Really enjoyed this one Ian. Thanks
What an amazing collection!
That Vauxhall Victor looks very similar to the Holden LH Torana’s that we had here in Australia.
Most enjoyable, sort of looking through the looking glass kind of presentation.
Yes, BX16Valves ARE brilliant! Reliable? Not so much - 2nd cam belt failure on mine persuaded me to scrap it 'cos not really easy to work on either (pretty tight for space behind the engine). Gear linkage used to pop apart on occasion too - not fun when it leaves you in neutral in the outside lane of the M25...
Ian as Princess Diana, interesting...
Nice interviews and especially nice to see some newer faces.
Love The Metropolitan Nashville, Sunbeam Rapier, Any Viva & the Delorean
Nice to see a Austin 1300 gt. My first car. £30. And it came in boxes😂.8 year's old and full of rot. Used it for 2 years, without fault
I love being part of the classic car scene i shall be at the event on the 9th with my SD3
Once more a great video Ian keep up the good work 👌👍🏻👏
Only just started watching this. Those wheels on the victor look like early marina wheels?! Will get me coat!
The general procedure for checking ATF fluid is to have the engine running at operating temperature move the gear selector through every range finishing in park to get an accurate reading.
Which is hard to do if the engine is being rebuilt...
Paramounts were built in Derbyshire, but not in Derby. They built a few in Swadlincote, a few more in Melbourne (Derbyshire) before moving out of the county to Leighton Buzzard.
I fully approve you skipping a Nash to concentrate on a Jowett! Good work!
Just think, the equivalent to the FE Victor was built in Australia by Holden as LH & LX Torana and Holden fitted 5L V8's in them 😮
Great video Ian. I want to visit that place.
Big up that man his C6!!
Nice interviews with the other TH-camrs.
Now that I recently owned a 1979 Reliant Scimitar GTE, they are popping up everywhere, now even two. Mine is white with a black vinyl roof, I don't know if they came that way from the factory.
I think you could specify a vinyl roof from the factory.
A great channel.
I really like the idea of a three wheeler 2CV that doesn't rust so will have a look at wrenching wench.
The Cornish built Blackjack Avion would be the one I'd really like, but I guess they're all fairly similar to drive.
The Avion is an absolute delight. Lovely styling and engineering. Would love to drive one.
I am planning to visit this museum at some point. Ref in one of the previous comments I made on the previous Granada video, the drive your dads car could do with a few light commercial vehicles as some dads also had a company van they took home or owned one. In my early growing up times in the early 1990's (up to 1996) did have works vans he brought home one was a smiley face Ford Transit that ended getting borrowed one night and wasn't found and a LDV van with the square front which the criminal world wouldn't steal for some reason.
I visited the museum last summer with a Jaguar owners group. I owned a green Victor FE 2300 in the late 70's which was exactly the same as the one near the reception desk, apart from the larger engine. I asked the staff whether I could sit behind the wheel of the Victor as it would bring back some great memories but, unfortunately, one is not allowed to sit in the cars. I can understand why they might have concerns about this but it's a shame when cars become "for your eyes only" museum exhibits.
Richard
I get it with something as low mileage as that for sure. Wouldn't take many bottoms to change the structure of that untouched seat.
A most expensive video to kickstart the 2024 season on the channel 👍👍👍
That Red Citroen BX was a project on Flipping Bangers.
Indeed it was. Has since been on the Number 27 channel and now owned by JayEmmOnCars.
Thanks I'll give them a look, I owned a C reg BX 14 and loved it, door hinge went just like on Tomato. I seem to have a strange knack for remembering number plates on cars, not much else really unfortunately🤔 Love your channel, owned a few 2cv's and a Dyane also. Rick who featured on your channel used to service them for us.@@HubNut
I'll be joining your high democratic group this weekend! No longer in the minority.....
Feeding the algorithm. Is the algorithm more like the Cooky Monster, or a Ravening Woolf?
The Michelotti design for the Stag and Dolomite still looks remarkably modern (from the front)
Practical Classics had a MK2 Escort next to a Dolomite a few years ago and I was surprised at how sleek the Triumph looked to the rather staid and upright looking Ford. Yet the Dolly was a much older design, then. Yet of course, being around at the time, I appreciate how we thought the blocky styling of the Escort was so clean and modern at the time
I drew designs (as a teenager) for an updated Dolomite in the 1980's. Guess what? It looked like Rover R8.
Wasted I am.
Must get around to visiting there. Spoilt by having Gaydon and Coventry on the door step.
Although an MOT is not a legal requirement on a car over 40 it still has to be road legal in not having any defects that would make it unsafe when used on a public road. A Traffic Officer or other Police Officer has the power to send any vehicle for an immediate safety inspection and if found to be unsafe the driver and or owner can be prosecuted. Advisable for an owner to have it checked regularly if he or she does not feel confident in doing it.
Yes, but the reality is that the Police are too stretched to be regularly checking safety.
At the risk of being sent to the Tower didn't Princess Anne get nicked for speeding in her Scimitar some time in the 70s?
She did.
[Cop] Do you know how fast you were going? Do you think you own the road? [Ann] No but my mum does.
My wife showed me a picture in a magazine of a beekeeping show exhibit that was based on Princess Anne’s interests. Sadly I couldn’t see a Reliant Scimitar.
10:00 So is that 'Rustival' to rhyme with Festival, Or 'Rustival' to rhyme with revival? Because, both work.
Festival.
Wow love the Vauxhall Victor. Looks just like the Australian Holden Torana . Hello from Brisbane Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 😄
We didn't cram six cylinder engines into our Vivas though. 😉
AY UP MR HUBNUT
Great video! But man, that museum is jampacked....
You should see their storage area...
❤❤❤❤ I'm 47. I don't consider myself old.......😊😊😊😊😊😊
UK Barn finds says !!
“ not going to plug “ and then goes on to plug all their Social Media 😂, not a criticism Ofc and hard not to I guess 😁, oh and Ian you consider over 45s OLDER lol 😂, still a spring chicken at 50+ here 😉.
I'm fast heading towards over 45 myself...
@@HubNut yeah but some guy’s are born old 😂
@@HubNutme too! I can remember being at uni and thinking it was horrific that I was "halfway to 36" 😂. Now I just tell myself that years are a made up human thing and if I were to travel a few light years away I'd still be 18. 🎉
I'm 55 and it's not till I meet someone I went to school with that I notice how old I must look. If my wife was looking for tall, dark and handsome, she didn't get it 😁👍🇮🇪
@@terryatkinson899 ahhh 😌 but even Short , Light and not handsome 😁 I bet she still LOVES YOU 😉.
TH-camrs have replaced crap telly.
Is that cutaway Austin 1100 the one that used to be at the late, lamented Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum near Uckfield?
Ooh, don't know. Never managed to visit that place.
@@HubNut I had an annual pass, ostensibly so the boy could feed the ducks, but mainly to stand and admire the Gordon-Keeble. I think most exhibits were on display in return for free storage, so who knows where all the cars are now? There was a very grand Minerva AK32-34, among other rarities.
Pet peeve - when someone you’re talking to keeps their hands in their pocket.
It was bloody cold to be fair...
As if Princess Anne needs a car with security features. She's in about as much danger as I am.
I believe the Princess Royal's heavy right foot and her Reliant Scimitar were responsible for her appearing in court for speeding on the M1, the first royal to end up in court since King Charles 2nd, but the punishment was a lot less for her !!
I believe she was nicked a couple of times :). Forgive me if someone's already said this, as I don't have the energy to scroll through all the comments but I believe 1420H was a gift to her from the 14th/20th Hussars (see what they did there?), as she was their Colonel in Chief
I'm sorry I tried to view your video of the Great British Journey but I couldn't watch past a few minutes as TH-cam kept putting up lots of adverts and I just got fed up.
Strangely if I watch it on the TV... lots of ads but not so many on the mobile phone
TH-cam went ad crazy at Christmas, tacking 4/5 ads together.... I turned the sound off as the ads were for shite I don't need. I'm bald, why would I be interested in shampoo 😮
Reading through M.O.T histories since they became available over the years, it's frightening how (it seems) many people (presumably) seem to use an M.O.T test to tell them what's wrong with their cars!
Vauxhall victor I wonder how much it shares with the Holden Torana?
Almost nothing. The Torana began life as Viva HB (the red car with slot mags).
@@HubNut Yes thats right but i was talking about the second series LH Torana which had 4, 6 and 8 Cylinder engines (The SLR 5000 and A9X. My Grandma drove the first Torana in Brown and it's potent version was the Torana GTR XU1.
Ah sorry. Yes, definitely some shared history in there somewhere.
Do you know anyone who is running an event around March 9th?
I may do...
I was promised a jig.......
18:22 What fog lights are these. Can anyone help?
They are Lucas branded. I think they were part of the 3500 spec at this time, or at least a factory option.
Wasn't there a theory behind that Victor in that the owner had potentially been working as a spy, and had been given either the car itself or money to buy it, but stashed it away "for a rainy day" to not look suspicious? If true, it's quite the interesting story, if not, it's still a fun thought anyway... :P
There's definitely a story there somewhere.
@@HubNut Certainly would make for an intriguing TV-movie at the least... :P
If you read my comments then you know I miss the matiz content 😢
I know. Need to work out what to do with that car.
Could you write Katies utube name for me plse. I cannot make out what you say on the channel.
Wrenching Wench.
Always pisses me off when these you tubers completly bypass the classic minis ..
I know what you mean, but to be fair there is a lot of mini, beetle etc content on TH-cam already, so a channel like hubnut tends to focus on the less championed stuff, fair enough I think.
Just pausing while I make a mug of tea... *click*
....resume *click*
In a couple of months I’ll be adding to your men over 45 total.
Do you no anybody who's got a citroen sm 🤔 🤓
I know someone who has a Citroen SM and is into S&M, I wonder if that helps with the ownership? 🤣
