I've never played anything near this level but when I did compete I felt the pressure way more when going against younger teams because everyone expected my team to win since we'd been in the finals so many times. I can't really explain how it plays with your mind but it's a huge factor and I believe the reason she's struggling in Finals. I do believe she'll figure it out though. She's too much of a competitor.

I've been following Serena's career since the beginning and as long as social media has been around some things never change. As soon as a player of a certain nationality beats Serena or emerges to challenge her, social media get's flooded with their country folk ready to dismiss Serena and put her down. I've seen it with the Russians, Belgians, Serbians and all the other generation of players Serena has outlasted. Lately it's Canadians, many of whom know nothing about tennis since it's never been a sport associated with Canadian success, suddenly flooding social media trying to diminish Serena in light of her loss. Bianca is a great player no doubt and she deserved to win the final as she was the better player on the day. But let's not lose sight of the fact Bianca beat an almost 38 year old woman past her peak and clearly in decline. This year she's the hunter, let's see if she can sustain her career when she's the hunted and players start getting the measure of her. As talented as Bianca is, i haven't seen anything that suggests she can achieve anywhere near the success of Serena especially given the fact that she seems to specialise in 3 set battles of intensity and isn't mopping the floor with the opposition as the all time greats like Steffi, Evert, Navratilova, Seles, Serena, Henin, Hingis......etc did in their breakthrough year.

Williams knows all of Sharapova’s weaknesses. Maria’s footing was very weak throughout the match, and Serena exploited that by forcing her into a backhand situation multiple times. Then, Serena repositions and hits it deep in the corner opposite to Maria, and ahe can never get there in time. Fascinating stuff though, Serena put on a clinic. The only way Maria got points was exploiting Serena’s weak movement around the court, and was only able to take two games from her in the end.
I feel Serena’s best chance is Australian Open 2020. Its where she won her last slam, she has good memories there never had to any problems in that slam. Us Open she always has a lot of problems, I think is more pressure she won her first slam there she was supposed to win in 2015. Winbledon las year was too soon, this year she barely played before that event. I believe Serena will win Australian Open 2020, its time.
Maria needs a better coach. Serena has done better in her 30s than in her 20s in part, because she got some better coaching....hiring Patrick M to be right the ship. She learned a Plan B. In other words, stop trying to blast your opponent off the court all the time, and just change the height and speed of the ball to give them a different look and help you with your consistency. We can see the strategy here several times. Maria clearly does not have the ground strokes, serve, or court coverage to stand tow to toe with Serena for a whole match. You would think that after 18 straight losses, Maria would have figured that out. She needs to mix in some sabotage tennis: slice loop, drop, lob to hopefully get Serena off her game. I don't know if it would work, but it MIGHT. IT doesn't make sense to keep trying to out-blast Serena from the baseline, and get beaten by lopsided scores.....
Agreed! Maria is still playing the same and hasn't evolved her game hence why she hasn't been peforming like she once did. Maria just using pace too blast her opponents away isn't work now as it did before as many of the women now have powerful games. She's a great player but she could learn a lot from Serena especially as Serena has evolved her game.

And it wasn't just Maria, several tennis players came out "positive" for that reason, because months ago it was allowed.

The pressure of 24 🏆 Her nerves and the boldness, fearlessness of Bianca were too much for 👑 Serena
When Serena plays Sharapova or great players, she shows up fully and plays impeccable tennis but in recent finals she gets too tangled up with the idea of lifting the 24th trophy rather than ruthlessly playing within her amazing self and just trust in her self. She starts looking up at her coach who in that moment knows she's losing it and everyone just goes silent because they know the real Serena is gone...as they see her doing something which she never does and that is ask anyone for on court coaching and once she starts doing that, she loses the matches and that's why she hasn't won a set recently in any finals because the real Serena becomes overwhelmed with the ego-self who is focused on making history rather than concentrating on winning her last match of the tournament. Neither of her losses in the last 4 finals have been the lack of skill set but mostly mental block. I hope her coach brings in a sports Psychologist this year to work with her this year.

By looking at this video time after time the biggest reason why Maria didn’t beat Serena is because her errors and the times that she could’ve broken Serena during the set she failed to do so💔. Serena on the other hand keep her errors at a low and she didn’t allow for Maria to come back into the match!
