    HOW TO MIRROR FINISH A BAR
    I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

    Nordic gold is such a lovely metal I really should do more as I don’t have that much of it on my shelves. Today I Melt up 4 metals to create the Nordic gold alloy and give it a nice Mirror shine and chuck it on the shelf. Another long video today as I did a second melt where I made myself a nice double sided coin from the game Uncharted. So grab a drink sit back relax and I hope you enjoy today’s video and as always have an awesome weekend my friends 😁👋🏻

      I find it odd that last week I made a comment mentioning that you haven't done a nordic gold melt (nor have you done an aluminum bronze melt) in a while, and here you are making a nordic gold. Almost as if in response to my comment. :P Was it because of me, or was it just a coincidence in timing?

    Good to see that you made a point to open up all the pieces of pipe after you cut them. Melting pipe is particularly hazardous because if any air gets trapped (ie ends are pinched closed), it will expand and create an explosion hazard when the walls of the tubes expand.
    Good focus on safety.

    Ever thought about doing a scrap jewelry melt? Around here, we look at garage sales and the like, no idea if Australia has an analogue. (it's shocking what people throw away or sell because it's out of style or not top shelf.) You might even be able to make electrum for something a wee bit different. (alloy of silver and gold)

    • @DoitWithAlana
      @DoitWithAlana 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      In Aus, everyone knows the value of silver and gold. So they want more than melt value for scrap. Sucks. Even the thrift shops will charge you like $30 for a set of out of style earrings that weight a couple grams. Here it’s cheaper to buy bullion and remelt it.

      Some of the things I've seen people melt down or chemically break down have actually been heartbreaking. There's some very fine artisan work I've witnessed get destroyed just for the gold and silver and it was worth more as it was. Sreetips is the worst offender of this. I still like him and all but when I seen him break down a beautiful braded chain or some ornate piece, I cringe a little bit. 😅 I've got no qualms about junky costume jewelry being lost but I think some of the gold scavengers get too focused on retrieving the gold and silver alone that they end up not seeing the value of the artwork of pieces that are still in perfect condition. 🤷‍♀️

    Interesting to see the petrobond attempts. I was doing a lot of that with an acetylene torch and just got a 10kg forge to upgrade system. I was using wooden frames I made but just bought the larger metal frame you have there. Yet to try. One thing you could try to get more consistent results is scratching tiny vent lines out to the sides of the frame. At the moment it looks like your air vents can be hampered by metal flowing in. A whole bunch of small lines to the edge won't let metal through but they will vent air maybe getting a cleaner result. My pours were all more horizontal. With your coins they were more lying flat. I put lots of pinpricks up to the surface of any high bit in the model to vent air and then buffed off the little bits after.

      I guess I'll throw my post into this "ring." I, like everyone in this thread, wondered the revelancy of Zinc in Nordic Gold...period. My thoughts turn to the "3 stages of matter...Solid, Liquid, Gas...and I'm wondering if this is an element that goes straight from solid to gas??? Perhaps it spends such a miniscule amount of time as a liquid before being vaporized we're not seeing it. Which, guess what, leads me back to my original premise...Is Zinc actually needed in Nordic Gold? Nice....Circular reference without an answer, and I have to work in the morning...lol. Great video as usual. Love Adam Lebner's comment so much that I'll give it a shout out...the only difference is that I watch on Sunday night - calms the system and preps me for sleep. Cheers from Ohio, USA...🍺

    Would pre-melting the zinc in a cupel and adding it to the rest of the liquid metals result in less boiled off zinc? Or is the ratio of the alloy made to account for that boil off? Would the alloy nor form correctly if you did so?

    To all you viewers, melting and pouring molten metal is one of the coolest things I've ever done. Once you watch copper boil and then freeze, you want to do it again. I buy copper by bulk, ask friends "Got Copper?" It's an addiction. And molds only make it worse. So many thing you can make from Nordic Gold. I would recommend it to anyone who gets the urge.

      Why are you surprised? He gives the total weight of all of his melted metal at the end of his videos. His current total weight in this video is 1588 lb or 722 kg. That's not a whole lot of weight. I mean for example: let's compare it to an aquarium. Most people that can afford a large aquarium start with 125 gallons if they're going to go big. A 125 gallon tank full of water, gravel, decorations, Etc can easily way over 1400 lb and just about any house can support that without an issue so long as it is perpendicular to the joists. I'm pretty sure his GROUND-LEVEL mancave will be just fine.

    • @Israfel36
      @Israfel36 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jerichojoe307 Yes, I'm surprised that nearly a ton of weight in a typical suburban home - even in Australia - built on a concrete foundation then on wooden struts is supporting that much weight. When compared to an aquarium of _that_ size wouldn't be accessible to a typical home and cost tens of thousands of dollars. Would you like to continue this asinine discussion or just let me make a fucking joke?
