I am 61. I am on SSI and spend over 75% for just rent. I am thinking of getting a trailer or RV and boondocking most of the time. When I was 14, I had to have a back operation. I started working at 7 to help my parents with med bills from my sister who had grandmal seizures. An insurance company from where I injured my back paid me for 3 years not to work. I would spend 2 to 3 weeks up in the mountains in Stanley, ID. It was very beautiful and all in all great. I think I will go back to doing the same thing now that my wife of 30 years has passed and now I'm on my own again. Thanx for all the advice and I wish you the best and hope you never tire of this great land.

I think u are blessed to b able to live your way, and brave enough to live free. I was married for 41years & raised 7 kids. We were always going to travel when we retired. Well my husband got liver disease and passed almost 3years ago. Long story short I have been taking care of people my whole life, today I bought myself a motor home and I can’t wait to travel, I’m kind enough of scared. But I’m doin it. Thanks for the inspiration! Lori p

Your choices are terrifying to people who are deeply entrenched in The System, Carolyn. You are making them aware of their own fears, and they manifest this by trying to make you their whipping boy. You can't care about what they think - only about what YOU think. I love your videos, and someday hope to see you out on the road! Rock On, Sister!

I am an old (65) man and I love how you have broken through the illusion of success (house, car, wardrobe, etc) and now enjoy the freedom of being real. If more people followed your example- this would be a better world. And if if you can do it with a degree and business in marketing, it gives me hope- that those less informed will realize that being house-less does not equal homeless. I love your videos, please continue to share your story, there are a lot of people that need to hear hear it. Their values are misplaced- you have a great life, don't let the naysayers take it away from you. All good to you, from someone who chooses to have less and I love the full-time life.

I am on the verge of choosing the same lifestyle. The same things that happened to you happened to me as well. My husband and I are hitting the road in an older RV, just as soon as we can. We are both in our sixties, and have had to start over after the last recession, when we lost every thing we had (including our house that we payed on for 23 years). Now we are debt free and ready to go and live life on our terms. Congratulations on realizing your dream at a younger age. Enjoy!!!

Hi Carolyn, I loved the way you laughed at some of the questions. You certainly are NOT a pathetic free-loader. I'm so glad you were able to see the insanity of your previous life. WOW! I don't know what your spiritual beliefs are but it seems the grandmothers and grandfathers may be calling you back to the ancient ways. YOU ROCK!

Carolyn, please don't get derailed by a handful of trolls here with their provocative questions. You have amassed a substantial number of followers that adore you and respect your choices/decisions. We don't ask questions that make you uncomfortable; instead, we're lucky and greatful that you've decided to share your adventures with us.
Both, stay warm, dry and in good spirits.

Carolyn, your channel has grown so quickly. Clearly what you have to say resonates with many. Regardless of how successful people are at making a lot of money to buy things, many of us at some point rebel against what amounts to servitude to the soul-less money machine. Doing good work is satisfying. There is something very wrong with putting all of our life energy into a system that chews us up and spits us out when we can no longer sustain the pace for one reason or another. Our culture is sadly so out of balance. What exists in the quiet beauty of nature is the source of our renewal. You really don't need to answer questions like "are you a free-loader." Your soul shines through and that's enough. Love hearing about your adventures and process. Thank you for sharing and being real.

    • @CarolynsRVLife
      @CarolynsRVLife  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Amber, thank you for the insightful and intelligent comment. I agree that so much is out of balance.. And for many, they can live in it and be happy and thrive. But for many of us, it kills our souls.
It's nice to know there are people like you who understand what I am feeling. Thank you.
      And ..
I am humbled and honored by your kindness... It lifts me up and inspires me to keep sharing myself..

Amen girl . Home burned sold property as is was only 1/8th of an acre and we chose to live in an RV . We are stationary but they will move us anytime . I love where we're at . Anahuac Tx. I am very poor on 800 a month but I make it work and at 59 as of last week I am finally loving my life and my hubby has now joined me and he's loving it also . Love your show 💜💜💜💜 Oh yes I was a hoarder also and now I'm not.

My husband and I moved into our RV in March 2016 with the intention of moving to Oregon from Louisiana. It took us until April 1 2018 to get here, but we did it! We never even thought about being treated like crap for our choice. Because our coach is more than 15 years old, we must be homeless bums. My husband had a job within a week of us getting here and we soon found out how hard it is to rent a spot for an older RV. We ended up boondocking for a month until we found a place in the mountains for rent. Our lifestyle isn’t for everyone, but why do the “normal” people have to be so judgmental? Keep doing you!

Ms. Carolyn, I happened to come across your videos while praying and trying to figure out what to do with my life... I am a 45 year old woman, worked my whole life trying make it... Raising my boys, went through a nasty divorce and a recent emotional breakup... I am getting on my feet and very grateful for having seen your story... My goal is to purchase a class c motorhome and pursue my dream... I am scared, to say I wasn't would be a lie... the positivity that you carry with you lifts me up... it'll take some time before I can actually do this; however, I am learning more and more from you... thankyou so much for sharing a part of yourself, your and Capones life... God Bless and safe traveling

Kel - I agree with you..why insult?? My motto is "Live and Let Live" . If you don't like what I have to say, move on. Why try to bring me down? It shows that something is getting sparked in them that they don't have the self awareness to understand so they lash out. But I am here for people like you who understand this journey. thank you very much!!

The coolest thing, Carolyn, is you don't have to convince anyone of your value. You are (valuable) as you are. The questioners are really asking the questions of themselves. Your life(style) is a challenge to those who are uncomfortable with the choices they've made (it threatens people who are not comfortable/confident with who they are/where they are). Just keep doing you, Carolyn! :)

Shanna, yep, that's what I tell myself for the first 10 of the haters and then the 11th one will feel like a punch in the gut. Unfortunately with all the kindness comes a certain amount of hate.. and it's vicious. Some of it I wear like a badge of honor; ,knowing, as you said, that I am touching something so deep inside them that they have to lash out at me - so I must be doing something BIG! It's getting easier.. especially with all the love I get from people like you. I appreciate you.
      Thank you!

I love your philosophy on life. I learned some of these lessons later in life than you. I'm retired now and scaling my life back tremendously because it's the quality of life that counts not the quantity of stuff we accumulate. Don't let naysayers get you down. I have some of those telling me I'm wrong but if they don't like it too bad. Love your videos keep it up!

You are giving back to society by your conscious choices to live simply and decrease consumption--in so many ways---not only material consumption but also food consumption--this is a generosity that many people don't get--but this action of not consuming so much indeed leaves a smaller footprint on this larger world that we call home--good for you--and yes--it comes as a package--with a deeper happiness--enjoy spending your time being truly present☺️

I enjoy your channel immensely. Material goods are NOT the most important part of our lives. I spent the first 40 years of my journey accumulating toys and 'stuff'. A medical crisis wiped me out financially and I have found what is really important in life. I am a much richer man because of that episode. Not in money, but in the real riches of life. Family, love and adventure are so much more enjoyable!

Reducing her stress is probably more security than if she had continued trying to squirrel away more nuts.

OMG!! YES!! We just had this same epiphany and just ended our first month of coming to this realization, decluttering, organizing, donating materialistic stuff.. and just now listed our floating home yesterday (FSBO to save on realtor fees) - WAHOO!! We still have another couple years to work in our hometown (dang it), but after that - we'll be roaming and traveling around being snowbirds & vlogging!! I'm so flipping excited to start our new wanderlust adventures!! Thank you for posting this.. our thoughts and plans EXACTLY!! My hubby calls me his future Trailer Queen and people are looking at us like we're crazy, because we're letting go of what the old fashion "American Dream" is and freeing ourselves to travel this beautiful land.. I'll gladly wear that title, as I won't be in my stressful construction job and we'll now have financial freedom to change our scenery & zip code on a whim :)

I have been contemplating the switch to this lifestyle and weighing the pros and cons while crunching real numbers and weighing what I feel is important to living a life I feel is worth living and in a way I feel I can contribute my skills to make others' better. If/(more likely when) I make the leap it will be with eyes wide open thanks to people like you who walk the walk and talk the talk - telling the rest of us how deep the water is before we jump in. This is one of the best videos I've watched on TH-cam (and I watch a lot!). I love your honesty, and I think you have a great life. What you said is perfect: "I made a conscious decision to live this life." Most people are slaves to society, convention, their jobs, and their families. And their creditors. If they even get a whole day just for them, they probably wouldn't know what to do with it. My guess is you've grown a lot as a person, and you are inspiring others in the process. I like Capone and Matilda too!

I was in the Walmart today shopping for a laptop and getting advice from the guy that worked in the electronics section. It came around that i wanted the laptop to edit videos because i have a TH-cam channel and living in a van, and the guy started telling me about this awesome lady that sold everything and bought an old RV and was traveling around with her dog. I said "that sounds like Carolyn's RV Life! She's my favorite!" and he said "Thats her! The redhead!" It was so cool! So you are totally famous even in my little bitty part of the world that is my home base.

NOT JOKING! I was flabbergasted too! BUT at the same time not really. You have been blessed with the talent and heart to put in to words what so many people are starting to feel. I might try to explain to someone how clever i think the gobs of people living in the massive slums in the phillipines are, because they can take so little, practically nothing, and still manage to survive, even if it is an insanely hard existence. The person i am talking to will look at me like i have three heads. But you can explain why you choose this life and i wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a bum rush of RV sales after the posting of every video you put out. Mass garage sales and a mass exodus from the drudgery of the "productive members of society" into the harder, leaner life of the nomad simply because you give people a glimpse of what it is like to ACTUALLY FEEL ALIVE. You are such an inspiration and you are inspiring so many that might not have even been thinking about this life to begin with! I know you don't know me from Eve, but i am so proud of you!!

Had I not experienced it, it would have been hard for me to understand the feeling of pure joy and unimaginable freedom I get from driving away in my truck camper with only a general idea of where I want to go and what I’d like to do. I won’t be able to do that again for a little while because I am tied to my responsibilities at home/work right now, but it is wonderful to be able to see you doing it Carolyn! Thank you for your entertaining and informative videos! As soon as I can, I plan to head for Quartzsite with its stunning Saguaro’s and interesting travelers!

You're amazing. I want to do exactly what you're doing, eventually. Right now, I feel trapped because of my socioeconomic status, which has always been on the low side. I also went to a university as an adult, part time, so I could continue working, hoping that would procure a better job with higher wages, but long story short, I was sold a lie, and even though I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS, there isn't anything I can do with that degree, except maybe try more school. Now I am saddled with a huge student loan debt that has almost doubled because of interest. Those bastards! However, I'm slowly making changes and reducing my overhead, getting rid of things, and soon, starting a savings account, which I've never had in my 49 years on this earth. So, thank you for being here and sharing your story. I am a single female your age, wanting to live the way you are, and, we happen to have a lot of the same ideals and principles, which is a nice bonus. You inspire me!

Hi Carolyn! I'm a fairly newbie to your channel and I just love it! I am sort of envious of you in a good way. Please ignore the haters...I find these TH-cam haters are just insecure and unhappy people and feel better only when they can put down other people. I love what you and other nomads are doing. Thanks to you, I've been watching Bob Wells channel and other Nomads. It is so fun and refreshing. I applaud you all for LIVING your life. Wishing you all the best!

I just have to tell you....... I freakin love you! You are so inspirational. I am new to the RV life( by choice also) I'm about 2 months in. I do not regret my decision at all. I like you had the house, the husband of 24 years, the career. I also have an amazing 20 year old son ( who is extremely supportive). I booted the husband 2 years ago. I sold my house December 2019 bought my 1999 winnebago adventurer 37 foot rv late January 2020 and I left the dental office I had managed for 7 years. I to enjoy my time alone and my connection with nature. I stumbled on your channel recently and I'm so thankful I did. Your a kindred spirit for sure. Thank you for sharing your story.

YOU GO GIRL!!!! BTW, move over sister. Lorna and I are going houseless in about two weeks and taking off in "Moe and the shack", a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 and a 2005 Nomad Rampage toy hauler.
We're headed first to Starlight Solar to get a PV/LIthium battery system installed by Larry and then off to Stanton to do some prospecting! It's all about the boondocking, baby! Don't let the haters fool you. You are living the dream. Freedom is all about choice, not having the things you own that own you. BTW, thanks for the referral. The shack now has a Gas Buddy so we can stay warm in the AZ desert in the winter.

Honey , I love your videos and you do not have to justify buying an older RV -there is no difference between a house trailer on wheel and a RV other then size -that is it. Also you do you -you live your life the way you want to and your right with out all the crazy bills -rent or buying a house is so high in price that no one can afford it really and we live week to week -take out loans -that we have to pay back and takes years to pay it back . You are also right on the money with " clothes, high heels ,makeup, or a fancy car does not make you who you are -you your self makes you who you are. You have chosen the life you want you live the life that most if not all people would love to be doing right now . Getting out from under all the bills they owe and they can -buy and live in camper or live in your car/van -pay off the bills that are holding you back and then when they are paid off cut the cord to the big companies who think you should keep buying stuff . I mean you only got one butt -so how many different pairs of pants do you really need to cover it ? You can only wear one pair at a time any way -same with shoes / heels -you can only wear one pair at a time -no reason to have more then three pairs -slippers or flip flops for home, boots for winter snow, and sneakers /heels . this is just my opinion .
