    Step 4: Actors
Actors are old hat and are just getting in the way most of the time, they can't even do their own makeup without getting help let alone get dressed.
So to fix this, I got Clint to wear a motion tracking suit on set and made him act out all of the other characters in the shot. yet another Big Hollywood issue solved by technology.

Same nbla. Although I also do find audio syncing interesting anyway, simply because tom scott often includes his audio-syncing ques without editing them out. And even more so now that I got to imagine how exactly such a software solution would work.
And I also found the leds interesting because of tech connections doing a video on monochromatic light, and how using leds might misrepresent the color of objects.

hey Niko/other corridor guys reading this, as a sound recordist i do want to point out that Slating can still be a helpful tool in your arsenal. yes a lot of editing softwares now have waveform sync options to make audio syncing much easier and faster. the problem with this is that the camera audio and recorder audio must match or it wont work very well if at all. it seems like you were working in an enclosed space that allowed you a lot of control over the sound that you were recording but sometimes you arent so lucky, Mainly if youre shooting on location and it happens to be a noisy one (whether from AC units, Refrigerators, cars/highways, etc) it may affect how the sounds are recorded to your different devices and make waveform syncing more difficult if not impossible depending on the contents of your scene. Another problem that you may run into is that some cameras might not automatically record audio or maybe the camera audio gets lost through any number of means and then you cannot waveform sync at all. this is why slating is such a useful tool. Because as long as you record the sound of the clap correctly and the video of the clapper closing, you will always be able to sync your audio. I'm not saying you should always slate, but just like how backing up your footage onto multiple drives can save you from losing your footage if one dies, the same can be said about slating being used to cover your ass just in case you can't waveform sync for whatever reason.

Its not only for synchng. I appreciate this channels that make possible good films with a low budget. But Hollywood its a whole other level. And everything in those sets had a reason. Editing is really expensive. Even more when they have animation in It. So the slate shows where the scene really starts at each clip. So the editor don't loose time waiting ALL team saying, sound ok, camera ok, etc ok (because some fx films have a Lot of things to be ready)
Searching for the start of the scene. So they jump directly to the Action. This is more time saving. Is money saving.

My favorite Corridor Crew video I've seen in a long time. Reminds me why I went to film school but also made me question why they showed us all the archaic ways of doing things using film, lights with bulbs instead of LED's, sound mixers, slates and all that other nonsense. I've actually implemented a bunch of these tactics into my every day work as the one man band doing video production for a network company and it made me realize I made some good decisions, but it also gave me some more ideas to help improve things for my future videos. Much appreciated.

The slate is still incredibly important. Even Hollywood uses automatic syncing nowadays, but you also need a visual cue of every shot. The script supervisor writes down which takes are best, and which are problematic, so the editor doesn't have to watch each clip one by one. He knows everything by looking at the slate in the thumbnail. That's why it's also important to position the slate before pushing Rec.

A note about lighting, one of the other reasons films still use old lighting systems instead of LEDs is that LEDs produce pure light (red diodes produce red photons of a specific wavelength, and so on), and old-style lights don't (since you're generating light by heating a filament). It's subtle, but manifests in a very visible way, particularly on film. If you're talking low-budget, LEDs are a godsend, but if you're on a multi-million dollar production, springing for the giant incandescents is worth it.

100% honest advice: DON'T start with money. If that was the impediment nobody would get anything done ever. Shoot with what you have and prove yourself. People want to jump in and help when they see that someone is moving ahead and getting things done.
Look at Robert Rodriguez and read his book "Rebel Without a Crew" to see how he raised some money and borrowed gear to shoot his first movie.

Really cool, Niko! Couple of things: 1) There is also the amazing PLURALEYES, which I have used on a 8 cam concert video shoot and it synced even bad audio perfectly, and has been around for a while. Possibly DaVinci licensed the tech from them? 2) I can still think of some other reasons you might still want to use a clapboard ... not the least of which is for when you organize your clips. Not crucial, but makes it a lot easier than having to listen for the scene/take, etc. info. Also a good backup if the sync fails for some reason.

This kind of method will never really be adopted by big budget productions. At the highest level it's about diminishing returns, it takes the bigger lights, more crew, bigger, more expensive equipment to get the smallest of improvements to the film. Having a large crew means that each person is responsible for a small portion of the work at a time and therefore helps to run quickly, major movies and TV shows shoot faster than a lot of low budget and student projects because everyone is at the top of their game and moving as one unit. Whilst technology is helping to reduce the need for large crews, and still getting a nice image, it's certainly not ahead of Hollywood, waiting for them to catch up. This kind of filmmaking is perfect for the low budget independent sector, but on massive budget productions, the tried and tested structure works and it works well.
Simply put, the 'best' (biggest) films use the best equipment, theres a reason that the majority of big budget films shoot on the Alexa, even though the Reds are cheaper and have higher resolution - it's the look, an intangible quality to the image which can't be achieved without the best of the best.
Having said that, Corridor do make some really nice looking stuff with low budget resources, and its definitely a positive to new technology for making this possible.

I don't know if it's the same in the US, but here in the UK most film courses at university include a module where a short film must be shot using just a mobile phone. The university supplies the phone (normally a high end iPhone in my experience) so everyone has a level playing field, and that must be used and nothing else. Gimbals are allowed, and a tripod, but nothing else.
I've done a few student films like this and the results can be truly impressive. The whole point of the module is to demonstrate you don't need piles of equipment and huge crews to make a film.
