    When it gets really cold out there I just remember Eric Thomas quote. “A true hunter’s goal is not the prize. A true hunter’s goal is to hunt, that’s what they live for, they live to hunt. It’s the whole process. “

    It is amazing how close my layering system is to yours. My buddies think that I am nuts with all of my tubs, 60 sets of base layers, a separate tub for my scentLoc clothing. I've been bow hunting for 44 years and have been working on my scent control ever since my first trip. My uncle and his buddies smoked and cooked in the camper while wearing their hunting clothes! I watched deer walk around them. I hung all of my clothes outside and took shit for it. But I saw deer up close and they did not.

      Wearing clean, scent free clothes is not a circus act. It does not guarantee succes, but I believe it is part of a process that works.

    Got me a bunch of heavy duty safety pins at Walmart, all they had that day was shiny zinc plated, so i soaked them in distilled white vinegar with 5 mils of water added and soaked them 24 hours, then rinsed with cold water and let dry. Perfect with no shine whatsoever. Got the safety pin idea from you of course, another great tip! Thanks for all the helpful videos!

    I used First Lite's solitude set this year and was warmer than I ever have been in Michigan's fall. Only thing that grew tiresome was being winded. Bought the revenant pro set during the black Friday sale and look forward to trying it on some wary winter deer.

    I wish ScentLok’s layering top would be longer on the torso. I’ll have to try icebreaker one day. I have been using Columbias bottom super thin with the silver lining on the inside they are super thin and comfy and pretty warm. I got them probably 10 years ago for about $80 bucks still rockin em.

    JOHN what are your thoughts on wearing regular hunting clothing over scentlok? I wash my wool in scent free soap in a washer that’s never used for anything else and store it in scent free bags and only use it over scentlok and only handle it with gloves hands. I do this for still hunting purposes and during gun season. Curious if your thoughts on this?

    I love the design of your jacket minus the spandex wrist cuff. It wouldn't be so bad if they made more tall sizes. The older Windbrace jacket wrist cuffs were the best imo. Question on the pants...is there a way to take off the knee pads? It looks like they're stitched on but wasn't sure. I'm a treestand guy but would like the pants to compliment the jacket. Thanks!

    Great video, John. Question - What are your thoughts on the heated vest you show here vs. one made of a more traditional 'puffy jacket' design with insulation? In my mind, it seems the lower profile one you show in this video would be better because you can choose what insulating layer you want over top (like you show in the video) ... I would assume that especially the cheaper heated vests with insulation are using a cheap and low quality insulation compared to Primaloft or something similar.

  • @MexicanMovie
    @MexicanMovie 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I recently ordered the FLEECE HEAVYWEIGHT BEANIE & GAITER COMBO from Scentlok, and i have some serious concerns about the amount of activated carbon in that beanie. I'm thinking of cutting it open on camera to see if we are getting what we are paying for. As far as my Sadlle Hunter Suit, it's better than expected.... with the wind breaker feature, the odor stays in long enough to be totally absorbed by the carbon. Had it on the day the 8 point buck came right by me from an unexpected direction.

    • @johneberhart4062
      @johneberhart4062 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a perk of a suit with a membrane, the carbon has more time to adsorb. Care instructions are different though.
