You should also rebuild and add new platforms at most of your train stations which will also add more space and more trains to travel and also to make sense is to also add couple of platforms and widen track to increase the flow of train traffic and there won be to many delays
When building I would suggest pausing the game [as you get all this funny behavior and more important, trains will 'get lost' and cause a lot of problems].
Build a south london bridge station and connect up the south east towns! Connect london bridge with st cross via the tube and it‘ll be brilliant. Or even a thameslink type thing?
To also add to my previous comment you could also could do a remakeover of each train stations and each city have its own unique stations with multiple platforms to help and increase amount of trains going through
The alternative platforms at Birmingham can't be selected as all the alternatives need to be within the one signalling block. There's 2 separately signalled routes technically between the Birmingham stations.

You still have a steam train in the 80s. I noticed after the 50 passed Northampton.
Yeah haha, I need to update that don't I. There's also a passenger service in Scotland which is still steam :D

You need to build an footbridge to the new platform at Birmingham New street
Joe next can you add the ECML service to Leeds as well as add the Tyne and Wear Metro to Newcastle
Hi Joe, what mods do you use?
Also love the videos!
50s only ever pulled mk1s and mk2s
Any reason you haven‘t extended the bridge at birmingham to the new platform?!
You have built a platform no one can get to!
Amazing series Joe, your absolutely smashing it!!!
I would have used the Stagecoach livery on the National as both cities were Stagecoach operated ones.
I was thinking of a Thameslink style service from either Peterborough or Cambridge to the southeast / Brighton
