  • My three cents in response to • Dinolite AM5216ZTL dig... :
    1. Double plus thumbs up on Louis' microscope recommendation;
    2. a less expensive camera for it;
    3. an alternative USB microscope that's worth the price.

    I use this microscope and stand for SMD assembly. The stand base is really heavy with long extension arms making it rock solid with lots of clear working space.The microscope has excellent optics. With 10x/20 eyepieces and the 0.7-4.5 zoom you can adjust to the exact magnification you need. Be sure to also buy a 0.5x Barlow lense that you screw on the bottom where the ring light is. This doubles the working distance to 8" which you need for placing components and soldering. The ring light with its adjustable intensity control is also worth getting. I bought this setup from Amscope a few years ago (no camera) and am very happy with the results.

    GOOD STUFF!! As I said, you do NOT need to buy a $700, 720p product to have output to a screen.

      Louis Rossmann >= 720p would be nice though.

    Christopher, I just wanted to thank you and Louis again for helping me choose a microscope and camera. Your information made me choose the video camera and so far it seems to be a good choice considering price. Thanks for the video review! John

    Also I hear your frustration at the garbage adapter. I have a good one on an older omano but they do not make it anymore. :( The adapter that fits with it is that junk one that just moves around.

    Just zip tie the cables from the camera firmly to the adapter if that sits tight or the main frame microscope then the camera wont move so much. Nice video!

      Depending on who I get it through, it varies between $260~$320 for the freight. Will still be worth the $1k+ to obtain one but it's just another thing "on the list".

      Really must get to ordering one soon, have a couple of broken iP6's that need the super-vision that only these microscopes can provide. No way I'm going to try fix a physically dislodged LCD backlight fuse that's 0201 in size free-sight.

    Let us know about reliability.

    • @ChrisMasto
      @ChrisMasto  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I've had this thing since 2016 and it still works fine. I use the microscope quite often; video less so because I haven't really been making those types of videos. The issue of the camera rotating freely is certainly a bit annoying and I wish there were a way to lock its position. Sometimes I put gaffer tape on it, but tape never really holds for very long.

    The price of these stereoscopes is high enough and is not affordable for the majority of the technicians.So the classic magnifier glasses remains as the best option along with these cheap miscroscopes of 10-25 euro which in the end have a decent image quality compared to their price and can have enough viewing distance 25-35 cm from the surface under examination.

    Thanks for the video! Do you have to continuously refocus as you are changing the zoom? I'm connecting a DSLR directly to the photo port and the focus changes as you zoom in/out - obviously it's not in sync with the eyepiece either.

    • @ChrisMasto
      @ChrisMasto  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately, yes. You do need to refocus when changing the zoom. It's possible to set the camera so that the focus matches the eyepiece, so it's not that much of a problem, and it's quick to adjust the focus.

    Good vid, I have some sort of Nikon in the lab my predecessor purchased, I'm sure it was way more than $700 and the output on it is complete garbage. Right now I'm using a little $70 Veho that does better. I'm thinking about replacing it with an AmScope or trying to find out if I can adapt a DSLR to it with a T-Mount.

    I bought a $400+ Omax camera and was extremely disappointed. The quality on those one looks so much better, and there's virtually no lag compared to the Omax, which is just awful!
    I bought this one, will return the Omax.

    • @ChrisMasto
      @ChrisMasto  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I recorded this video with a camcorder and its internal mic. I haven't really solved for having good audio. Sometimes I use a lavaliere mic plugged into a cheap USB audio adapter.

    Thanks for the video I am trying to find a microscope video camera. I also saw Louis' microscope recommendation and appreciate his insight in to what I know little about. I think I might have found a better choice and I ordered it and just got it. It is cheaper than than the SM-4TP and seems to have the same specs but includes a 0.5X Barlow lens that extends the vertical working space up to about 8-inches. The SM-4TP is $458.64 and the one I have is the SM-4NTPX which is $428.98 both from AmScope.

    • @hamidbeegees
      @hamidbeegees 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      jwrtiger... Hi there...I'm looking for a microscope for micro-soldering... Do you still think the SM-4TPX better then SM-4TP?

    • @jwrtiger
      @jwrtiger 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Again I am a novice in this area but so far I think it is a better deal. I really wanted the extended field-of-view that is provided by the 0.5X Barlow lens and as mentioned it is at a cheaper price. I now have a video camera to go with this scope but to be honest I have not really put the whole system to work just yet. I have another TH-cam channel under a different name: jwrelectro and hope to do a review on this system in a few months.

    • @ChrisMasto
      @ChrisMasto  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Looks like the 0.5X Barlow lens on its own is amzn.to/2gvn1dX. I just ordered one.

    • @jwrtiger
      @jwrtiger 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup that Barlow lens looks like the one I got with the scope... same markings and everything. Still wonder why mine is cheaper than the other scope model and you get the approx. $50.00 Barlow included.
