I now use a Campmor Rambler tent after using swags for years. 2.1m x 2.1m x 1.85H. Takes me 8 mins to setup but worth it as I can stand in it to dress, and pee in a bottle at 3am. :-) Way more comfortable to use and no stretcher to set up or find storage for. Bag is 800 x 300 x 300 with tent in it (16kgs). Big plus with it is no guys ropes are needed, just peg the corners and sides. Tent has a roof vent for airflow & condensation, 2 large side windows and door. Floor is a very tough 550g PVC and canvas is 400g ripstop. It's quiet in wind, no flapping about. I use a HD foam mat & Thermarest self inflating 75mm mattress, carry 2 sleeping bags, use both in winter one in summer. They're used in safari camps, the scouts and tour operators as they're so durable. Cost me $1.1k but the quality is superior to a Black Wolf or Darche. Better than the Oztents which only store on roof racks and a pain to load unload. Can't see me ever changing the setup. Search TH-cam for 'Campmor, Tent Instruction Video'.
I've had one for over a year and absolutely love it, you're review pretty much sums up my thoughts. Only thing I can add is that I cheaped out and bought a budget rechargable under shelf strip light instead of the Kulkyne kit, for $20 it works great and no annoying cord.
I have exactly the same setup and agree with all your points. The one item you missed was how good Kulkyne are to deal with, great service from a small company selling items that appear well sorted
Totally endorse your review. Have had a Kulkyne Dome swag for around 5 years - love it. Easy to set up, very comfortable (stretcher and mattress), survives any sort of weather.
good to see proper review on these swags been looking at them for last few weeks definitely puts them at top of list. My current swag was bit of a cheapy but has worked well over last 8yrs but its now showing its age
Great review and vid. Appreciate your efforts. I was gifted a Kings Big Daddy Swag. Took 3 weeks to water proof it. (2 days at a time soaking in the bath and then setup). Still had leaks so used a water proofing item from Anaconda. Mattress that it came with was meant to be 75mm. It never expanded out to what it was meant to be even after 3 weeks on spare double bed so I purchased a 23zero mattress, cut to size and fitted. Used the original mattress as a topper. Use a dache double sleeping bag, flannel inside and canvas outside of it. Yes it is huge with both mattresses now but one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. about 500mm Square with no sleeping stuff in it. I also use a bit of water pipe with "T"'s" on the ends, in the centre of the swag to stop the droop of the sides. It works well. I do not have a stretcher for the swag at the moment. Have to say going from using a coleman 6 man tent, and at the age of 53 I do struggle getting in and out of the swag. Upside is that the swag is a lot warmer though. You have me thinking about the stretch now.
Man you have cost me some coin, I bought the mega and thanks for the discount code and today i just bought the GX , thanks for helping me make my mind up i do find it hard :)

Looks comfortable and durable, love the shelf... only problem is that anything canvas is just enormous when packed... I could pack three stretcher tents and still come out on top for space
First one I have seen with a removable shelf from the factory, I have made my own and placed it in others for years, people forget about the vertical space and only use the sides if that.
I saw the Kulkyne in one of you videos and got one a few months back, its a big bulky, and I cop a bit of flack for it being huge, but man its comfortable. I had no idea Kulkyne was a place and where they came from until we drove past on the way to an AORC event, I go past a few times a year for the different evens (Loveday / Pooncarrie and Finke.)
Nice swag!...love the hieght of it!. I'm running a 23zero 1550 outbreak with the new Darche 1400 stretcher. Very bulky swag and stretcher, somewhat annoying to set up. I think I can get my oztent rv3 with the rain fly up in the same time lol. But once set up, the outbreak is roomy and spacious....almost like a rooftop tent, but at ground hieght
I have been looking at a double Kings swag as I am a big boy too, but you cant get a stretcher for them, and I wanted to get a stretcher to get up off the ground and for some extra comfort ... thanks for the review, as you may have changed my mind, cheers, mate.

Fantastic review thanks Cam. Amazing how often your reviews are perfectly timed for us - we have been looking at swags - will definitely use your code. Thanks for your honest reviews.😁🌺
If I was in the market I would be going this for sure, extra head room and that shelf would be the deciding factor for me, as I find the lack of these in Dome swags a pain. The only thing I would like as an option is, no mattress as I prefer the self-inflating style ones.
Self inflating mattress would definitely help with rolling it up smaller! And would still be comfortable on a stretcher. I do find inflating mattresses don’t offer enough insulation from the ground in cold weather though.
Hi Cam, great review, perfect timing mate. I've got a kings big daddy. Its heavy and takes up a fair bit of room, but had a good run out of it for about 5 years. I'm 56, 6'6 tall and am starting to struggle getting up off the ground. I've been thinking of getting a stretcher and new swag. Seen you using this in your trips, looks like a great setup. Think this might be my new setup. Cheers Shayne 🌄
Gday Shayne, I’d definitely recommend giving a stretcher a go mate. They are heaps kore comfortable and easier to get in/out of. But one thing I missed in this video is that it also makes pack up easier. You can roll the swag up while it’s on the stretcher, which means you’re not on your knees.
@WildTouring hi Cam, I just ordered the swag and stretcher. I appreciate the feedback. It's all round a much better setup going forward as I get older, I won't feel like a baby giraffe trying to stand for the first time getting off the ground with my current swag. Maybe my mates will stop taking the pi$$ as well.... 🤣🦒
Thanks for the review Cam I have been waiting for this one . Also being over 6 foot and 115kegs, there is not many people I take advice from because like you said in another comment they review it when it’s brand new . You, Pete, Buck and the like only review when the product has been well and truely used and abused. As for his rust marks on the swag you practically live on the beach with your swag, it’s 4 yrs old good luck with the oztrail hahaha . Thanks again for the review it’s on the Xmas list cheers Matt.
Thank you. I bought one after watching this. My only gripe was the second time i set it up i snapped my middle pole. Kulkyne offered to send replacement pole but i had to follow up a couple of times and ask where it was and i usually got "we're sending it now". Maybe kulkyne is a little disorganised. Initially i think this will be a great swag but my concerns are for those poles and how reliable they be are.
Nice swag, I had one of their larger stretches for my big daddy swag and it was great, since sold all that and using a 23zero bandit 1100 on a Oztent stretcher but I do like your setup a lot. Great review. Cheers and beers.
Hey Cam, great review. My b'day is in 3 weeks and I'm about to order myself one of these as a birthday present from the kids :) I've got a Big Daddy Deluxe from when I used to camp with my wife, but she's not keen anymore with little kids, so for solo camping I need something more manageable to roll up. Was considering the 100mm mattress, but might settle on the 70mm for ease of pack-up. I won't be using a stretcher and been sleeping ok on the 30mm kings mattress for the past 10 years, so anything will be an upgrade in comfort! Just a query RE your electric blanket, which one do you have and how do you power it? Been researching and seems the only option is a Kings 12V power pack with the cig socket. Share your secret set up :)
Thanks for your review Cam. I’m in the market for a good swag and stretcher and wanted to know what you used for your Simpson Desert and Fraser Island trip. Very handy to know. I’ll definitely use your discount code. Many thanks.
Great review Cam, my back and swags have never agreed whilst being straight on the ground. Do you notice a difference with or without a streacher? That shelf is a great idea, as someone with glasses this is perfect spot.
I have the same problem. I’m a side sleeper and I get sore shoulders, back and neck if I’m on the ground. I don’t have any of those issues on a stretcher. When I took Chloe away for a night a couple of months ago, i gave her the stretcher, and I had a swag on the floor. Had the worst sleep, forgot how much more comfortable a stretcher is!
Hey cam great vid and review as always 👍 I cant recall a vid of yours where you werent in a swag on a stretcher without an awning, have you been in a swag on stretcher without awning and encountered rain? Just curious if water can get under and pool under the swag on the stretcher? Ive only just moved to a new swag on a stretcher instead of the ground and thought about it, i see some wider swags completely overhang some stretchers and shouldnt be an issue, some dont and probably aren't with the pvc base swags i assume, but value your thoughts if you have any?
Just had a look on the Kulkyne website and I couldn't see your exact setup. What's your setup? you're on a stretcher, is that in addition to the swag? Exactly what model do you have? thanks.
Cheers mate. I think it would be slightly cooler than smaller swags. There’s also heaps of ventilation, so it’s easy to manage temp with them. When it’s really cold, I don’t notice it coming from underneath. I think the mattress has enough insulation to overcome that. I think the cold comes in through the canvas , and the best way to manage that is layers (clothes and bedding!).
@@Lee-in-oz I’m not 100% sure to be honest! There’s no mention on the website, so maybe not. There are other aftermarket waterproof bags available though!
Hard to imagine carrying something this big and bulky.....just to sleep in. I use a 1 or 2 man tent that rolls up to the size of a loaf of bread. Along with a good quality inflatable insulated mattress and a good sleeping bag I'll guarantee I get as good a night's sleep as anyone else. And at 69 years of age it keeps me just a little bit fitter and more flexible. On a recent trip through Central Australia on a motorcycle I watched people at the campgrounds set these things up and just chuckled inside. Not necessary.
Swag doesn't overlap the stretcher properly and water will get underneath the swag floor. Aluminium tube poled are pathetic when other brands use composite poles, regardless of attempting to use poles to maintain shape. Too bulky to be a swag.
Wondering how u go in WET WEATHER? I assume u always have it under the awning? If you don't have an awning & its setup is out in the open - would there be less likely of rain ingress due to the vertical walls?
Not sure if it’s any less likely to suffer from water ingress due to design. But you’re right, I’ll generally move the swag under the awning if it’s raining. Mainly because I don’t want to roll it up wet and get my bedding wet.
Cheers mate! I guess that’s maybe why most TH-camrs review brand new gear. My stretcher is years old with a LOT of use (most of it in the salt, on beaches here in the west). Some paints chipped off over the years of being thrown around, and there’s some surface rust, but I do honestly think given my weight and the frequency I use it, it will still outlast the aluminium equivalent.
Never understood the swag. Big, heavy, hard to pack down and often quite expensive. Compared to a tent that packs smaller, gives more space, is lighter and doesn't need to be put under an awning. They just logically don't make sense but people still seem to buy them and love them. This causes me much confusion.
@@DENMONKEY fair enough, different strokes for different folks! There’s no one size fits all - and that’s okay! Ive camped in lots of tents. Did 6 months living in a dome tent travelling Aus as a kid, ive had flash $1000+ canvas touring tents, cabin tents, instant pop up tents ect.. overall I’ve found them good for longer stays when you want some more space- especially if there’s more than one person. But for solo travel, and short stays I’ve found tents troublesome to set up (especially those with seperate flys or ones that require pegging out/guy ropes etc), takes longer by the time you’ve rolled up your fly/tent/mattress/sleeping bag, noisier in windy conditions (flapping), colder and I don’t like sleeping on the floor for a multitude of reasons so I’d still be packing a stretcher anyway- so still fairly bulky 🤷♂️
Hey Cam! Great review! It looks really comfortable ❤ Being from the States, I never understood the practically or appeal of a swag. They take up an enormous amount of space, and they are heavy as hell. I remeber canvas tents in the 70s. If it is a heavy rain, water will bleed through canvas unless it's treated. I have a nylon tent thats roughly the same size. It weighs less than 3 pounds, completely waterproof and isn't much bigger than my forearm packed away. My self inflating sleeping pad is about 1.5 lbs and soooo comfy.😊 Do you have mates that use nylon tents? Do you think swags are a cultural thing? Why a swag?????
I have a swag. It's 7 foot x 5 foot wide. Piece of canvas, a blanket and 2 wool blankets. Getting old I did buckle and got a $25 kmart single air matress. I've slept in that one night that it was literally 1 inch per hour rain. Dry as
Not a product for me. But i see a big issue. Youve had it a few months only. Poles mount into stretcher frame. As you demo that, Im seeing rust in the hole, so its clearly rusting from the inside out.
@@davidleonard1813 nah the swags 9 months old, the stretcher is over 4 years old and has been used a couple of hundred times. A lot of it on the beach getting covered in sea spray, and never washed. It’s surface rust on the outside from me scratching the paint off.
@@WildTouring fair enough but either way it's on the inside now lol. I been through that with a few stretcher beds. For me I just get on the ground now. If I'm car camping $25 kmart matress in a slab of canvas in the dirt. Hiking, Sea to Summit make this mad orange hi vis matress about $90. I didn't believe it myself it's like 3 4 ch thick diamond ish pattern. But I'm a side sleeper. I've slept on a granite cliff ( with a ground sheet to protect the light light matress lol ) and I never bottomed out. It's quite amazing and uber light. If I am taking the Lil woman camping. A instant pop up about gazebo size coleman and a Kmart double air matress is the go. Takes about as much or less room packed as your set up. Plenty of good kit on the market for any need now
could never bring myself to swag, a 3 man instant up tent gives so much more room, is a fraction of the size and weight and goes up just as quick or quicker than a swag. Also i LOL when i see 4wd's with swags on the roof doing impersonations of parachutes, hows the fuel consumption buddy...
Yeah fair enough. We’ve had a few good tents over the years. There’s pros and cons to both. But for solo trips I much prefer the convenience of rolling all my gear (swag, mattress, sleeping bag and pillow) all up together in one bag .
Hi Cam, Not sold on this swag & strecher.... 1. To big 2. To cold 3. To heavy in combination 4. To uncomfortable with stretcher sag 5. To expensive $475 + $189+ $55 = $819!
Hello mate, fair enough. Genuinely interested to hear if you have you slept it one though? I’ve got a few mates with these Kulkyne stretchers and I’ve never had someone say it’s uncomfortable. Also the price point is actually quite competitive with other similar design/quality swags. 🤷♂️

It's all round a much better setup going forward as I get older, I won't feel like a baby giraffe trying to stand for the first time getting off the ground with my current swag. Maybe my mates will stop taking the pi$$ as well.... 🤣🦒
@@wa-downsouth 🤣 haha I reckon you’ll love it. Let me know how you get on with it 👍🏼
Thanks for the review Cam I have been waiting for this one .
Cheers Matt. Appreciate the feedback mate. I reckon you will love your swag mate! 🍻
Fantastic thanks
Love the "swent"! Great review Cam❤
🤣
Good review, looks like a great swag.
I love the extra room in there, cool idea with the shelf
Dropping the word "swag" a squillion times and mates, some serious broke back mountain sh$t going on there
Me too mate! 🙏
@@WildTouring magic vlogs, grown on me and very diverse and different keeps us entertained and informed, magic cheers
Perfect vid cam! However are the bags waterproof, I feel that all swag bags should be waterproof for is storing on the roof of the car.
They are. Had mine in the rain plenty of times on the roof, no issues
Nice swag, I had one of their larger stretches for my big daddy swag and it was great, since sold all that and using a 23zero bandit 1100 on a Oztent stretcher but I do like your setup a lot. Great review. Cheers and beers.
Cheers mate. I’m keen to try one of their double stretchers!
@@WildTouring the doubles are great.
Hey Cam,
great review. My b'day is in 3 weeks and I'm about to order myself one of these as a birthday present from the kids :)
I've got a Big Daddy Deluxe from when I used to camp with my wife, but she's not keen anymore with little kids, so for solo camping I need something more manageable to roll up.
Love it ,getting one
Thanks for your review Cam. I’m in the market for a good swag and stretcher and wanted to know what you used for your Simpson Desert and Fraser Island trip. Very handy to know. I’ll definitely use your discount code. Many thanks.
My pleasure mate. I reckon you’ll love it too 👍🏼
It really is a very good setup!
I too have a Kulkyne swag which is great.
Do you treat the canvas to provide greater waterproofing ?
Would have bought one right now however I can't stand storm flaps because they block the view to the sky. Thanks for sharing
They’ve Come a long way from the old canvas roll straight on the ground with a wool blanket after a hard day drivin
Haha they have! Definitely blurring the lines of swag and tent these days.
I wonder what it is like if there is a bit of wind ?
I tend to arrive at camp at night and the oztent bunker is so easy to setup compared to this. Not quite the interior space this one offers though.
We're both talking about swags on the toob today, and we didn't even tee it up!
I noticed that 😂
Good to see you back on the toob mate!
Did you have a look at Murchison River Swags?
@@mattblakiston8933 I have done before, they do a good looking traditional swag/bedroll.
Hear good things about them too!
Interested buying one. Being rather high and no tie down, how does it handle if it becoms a bit windy?
Just had a look on the Kulkyne website and I couldn't see your exact setup. What's your setup? you're on a stretcher, is that in addition to the swag? Exactly what model do you have? thanks.

@@WildTouring Great. Thanks.
Hey mate. Any chance you could let me know the dimensions of this swag packed away in its bag?
Nice review,
Does the larger size help it stay cooler in the heat?
How does it go when its cold on the stretcher with allowing wind to get under it?
Cheers mate. I think it would be slightly cooler than smaller swags. There’s also heaps of ventilation, so it’s easy to manage temp with them. When it’s really cold, I don’t notice it coming from underneath. I think the mattress has enough insulation to overcome that. I think the cold comes in through the canvas , and the best way to manage that is layers (clothes and bedding!).
Epic thanks
Cam, what sleeping bag you using in the swag?
Wish I hadnt seen this. Swag envy anyone?
When’s there going to be a review on your e-scooter?
Great no bullshit review Cam. Totally enjoyed it.
Cheers mate! 🍻
Great review Cam. Question, is the carry bag water proof? That's a big thing for me as the swag would be stored / travel on the roof.
@@Lee-in-oz I’m not 100% sure to be honest! There’s no mention on the website, so maybe not. There are other aftermarket waterproof bags available though!
@WildTouring cheers mate. That's what I'll do, I was just hoping lol
Good review Cam but seeing the rust all over the legs turns me off it. Will stick with my oztrail stretcher I think.
Looks like a tent
I just want an oldschool style bedroll that doesnt cost 1k
(im looking at you crashpad)
It looks really comfortable ❤
Being from the States, I never understood the practically or appeal of a swag.
My self inflating sleeping pad is about 1.5 lbs and soooo comfy.😊
Do you have mates that use nylon tents? Do you think swags are a cultural thing? Why a swag?????
It’s a Swent
🤣 haha yes!
Look up Saul swags
New property ?
I wish people would stop calling 1 man tents a swag
I have a swag. It's 7 foot x 5 foot wide. Piece of canvas, a blanket and 2 wool blankets. Getting old I did buckle and got a $25 kmart single air matress. I've slept in that one night that it was literally 1 inch per hour rain. Dry as
its a tent swags don't have poles
Mate saw something on marketplace.....what???????????
Hi Cam,
Not sold on this swag & strecher....
1. To big
2. To cold
3. To heavy in combination
4. To uncomfortable with stretcher sag
5. To expensive $475 + $189+ $55 = $819!
Try a Murchison river swag. 💯 Aussie made traditional swag , $1300
Hello mate, fair enough. Genuinely interested to hear if you have you slept it one though? I’ve got a few mates with these Kulkyne stretchers and I’ve never had someone say it’s uncomfortable.
Also the price point is actually quite competitive with other similar design/quality swags. 🤷♂️
@@WildTouring Hi Cam, l have spent 50+ years sleeping in a swag while camping and have experimented, your swag would be warmer and flat to sleep on
without the strecher and also save you weight and time , I also found the middle poles annoying when entering and exiting the swag , the product is good the concept is not , just my opinion
Cheers ! 🍻
That’s not a swag, it’s an apartment building.
What is the age demographic of your audience??
I'm guessing 50+?
