This lesson is entitled When God Speaks and it’s another lesson taken from the book of Joshua. And when God speaks great men and women listen! Now we had a previous lesson entitled When God Calls, but after God calls a man or woman, He speaks to commission them or give them instructions on how He will empower and enable them to fulfill that calling. God spoke directly to Joshua telling him three times to be strong and courageous, He then very specifically told Joshua not to be afraid. Why? Because fear can become our main decision-maker in life if we are not intentionally aware of it and intentionally aware to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Now, think on this, if we are not in bondage to fear we can do ANYTHING that God has called and commissioned us to do. Joshua was called, he was commissioned, and he was empowered. So, fear was the only thing that could now stand in his way, and that is why God told him to be strong and courageous and then specifically not to be afraid. There was NOTHING else that could stop him from being successful in what God had called and commissioned him to do. Being empowered by God and aware of that empowerment overcomes fear.
