When measuring the mortise how much of the knuckle is outside the mortise cut?

Do you anything to the ends of the hinge pin to keep it from working its way out of the hinge?

Should be a snug enough fit that you dont need to do anything on the pins, friction keeps them in there just fine. Never had a pin come loose on a piano hinge

Hi there, that's an helpful video! I have an unrelated question, if you had a bottomless box which you wanna add a bottom to with a lid, how would you install a a hinge that can make its way in & out without slamming into the ground?

How come some youtube how to's show the barrel part of the hinge not sticking out from the edge of the wood? Is that also acceptable?

Now that you have cut both ends what holds the pin in place, opening can closing the door the pin inside that hold both halfs of the hinge will work its way loose, won't it?
