It depends on what you want to use them for. At home or in a studio the Yamaha has the richer sound. But on stage I prefer the more direct and straight sounds of the Roland. My experience is that a Yamaha PSR won't cut throught a mix. I've had the Yamaha PSR-8000 and I traded it for an older and simpler Technics sxKN-2000, just because of the more dynamic and direct sounds.

If you choose the instrument you can tune it up according to your taste. As to acustical qualities that can be more harmonics in the middle of the tone band - it sounds sharper. Or harmonics can be scattered continuously over whole band of tunes - effect is more deep. It depends on our taste. We can do it on both instruments.
Please make a video of how you create your videos and sound. Are we hearing the sound produced by the onboard speakers, or, are we hearing the sound out of the audio out from the keyboards and then processed and enhanced? Keep up the good work! Great videos!
It would be interesting to generate a difference signal between Roland and Yamaha and then listen to that.. I have no idea really what you would hear, but if you hear absolutely nothing then you will know that both instruments sound exactly the same for that sound fragment. And I think some of them would really apply to that. Hello jeremy!! I have yamaha e463, i want create style like waltz, because waltz here in philippines a bit differ from the styles from yamaha, can you teach how to create my own style using windows pc using software to create my own and load up with my yamaha e463..
Go have a look on the PSR Tutorial Forum website. There you can ask for some specific styles for your keyboard, as well as find numerous tutorials about how to create new styles on the computer. But this is a heck of a job !!!
Hi Jeremy nice video. 👍 From your first videos about the EX-30 I despised it, but now I changed my mind. When you play the same notes on both instruments I like the EX-30 better than the E363. I think that the Yamaha sounds better at first listening because they added some effect (reverb) to the sound but when you remove that reverb the Roland sounds globally better. My impression is that this is due to the Yamaha relying on very old samples, whereas the EX-30 probably has new samples. Concerning the church organ, why did you compare the church organ with the chapel organ? The pipe organ would have been ore logical. Same thing with the church bells and the tubular bells, they are not the same thing IMHO. I am surprised that you still have a PSR E463. If you can keep both keyboards at home for some time, It would be interesting to make a comparison for the styles. Could you maybe do this for the Jazz, Ballad and Dance styles ? Also, to be complete, you could also compare other features such as build quality, recording facilities, keybed quality, possibility to tweak or not the sounds, to upload more styles to the keyboard, etc. Have a nice Sunday 😎
Thanks for stopping by. I try to find the most similar tones. There isn't a chapel organ on the EX30. And church bells sound closest to Yamaha's tubular bells. EX30 tubular bells are nasty... I always have lots of keyboards from my students to borrow from, if they are away on holiday.
There is really no contest here. Yamaha sounds better hands down. As an aside, I have a Yamaha PSR 290 from the early 2000’s, and its sounds are very similar to the modern Yamaha you demonstrate here. It seems Yamaha perfected these samples years ago.
Some of the roland patches sound mono. The Yamaha patches sound more like some stereo widening was used on them. If the effects on the roland patches can be changed it would be a hard sell between the two just going by listening to this.

Several comparisons were problematical, like the pipe organ where two completely different types of pipe organ were heard.
